Starmaid 52L Plastic Storage Container/Boxes - 1/2 Price $7.99 @ Woolworths Supermarket

270

Hi guys,
As discussed in http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/110475 the starmaid storage boxes are currently on special at Woolworths. I saw a huge stack of them in Waverley Gardens (Mulgrave, Vic) then checked a couple of other stores via the online catalogue and it's on page 12 in the bottom left-hand corner. I assume that it's Aus-wide but please feel-free to post your states/territories availability.

Thought I'd let those know who are in need of a good quality storage box. I like these because they are Aussie made but I still find that these may not be the best option for heavy duty use. For that I get the Kmart black tubs (which have no lids).

Not a bad deal considering 50% off however cheaper and bigger at officeworks
    http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Furniture/Stor…
So gets a - from me.

    • Does the OW one also have a 5 year warranty ?

    • Not bigger: 540w x 310d x 390h (mm) compared to L558mm, W390mm, H325mm not by much but definitely not bigger than the Starmaid. Plus it's Aussie made using premium plastic.

I've bought these OW ones. They're as brittle as the cheapies from Target/Kmart.

    • These are stronger, easier to carry, easier to see the contents, more stable when stacked.

    • I have several of these and they're better quality than the ones at officeworks. The officeworks ones seem very brittle - the local officeworks are always selling a stack of them without lids (because they've broken) or a couple with broken wheels.

      Bigger isn't necessarily always better.

  • I swear Woollies had these for $7.50 not last week but the week before?. They are pretty good compared to the el cheapo ones (they aren't that much cheaper 2 for $15 55L ones) build wise. However i couldnt seem them on display at my local Woollies (both of them).

    • The 10L for $5 each was the week before

My comment from the deal OP linked:

Easily the best tubs are the 52L "Starmaid" ones sold at Woolies and Big W:

    • Much stronger
    • Properly transparent (It's really useful to be able to see what's inside without pulling it out an opening it, especially if it's at the bottom of a stack)
    • No "ridge" around the bottom (most have this, cuts into your hands, makes them impossible to lift from bottom when full)
    • No wheels (they break immediately and jam up if the contents is heavy anyway - which is of course the only time you'd need wheels)
    • Lid closes well, pretty airtight, stable when stacked 5 or 6 high
    • Still Australian made, I think.

I have maybe 50 of them, worth every penny. Makes my small house uncluttered; I can instantly find gear I need in these, so it's no problem to store it all in the garage.

    • "Easily the best tubs are the 52L "Starmaid" ones sold at Woolies and Big W"
I will second that, I have about 20 stacked in the shed, and thruout the house, I have a little house too and these are awesome for organization. Stacked up high on a wardrobe I can easily see which box has what ;-) Great for all those ozbargains past and present lol

Note: do not even think about Kmart ones - the plastic is a hard type, shocking and snaps cracks and shatters and the wheels come off as do the handles!

      • Just saw this bargain, will third that.

I have 20+ scattered around my unit often stacked 5-6 boxes high.

The Starmaid factory & factory outlet is in Dandenong Vic, which is not far from Waverley Gardens. While I didn't pay much attention to these type of tubs last time I was there, the factory outlet generally sells the stuff much cheaper than retail stores, so it would be worth checking out if you want to buy anything from them and can get there during the limited business hours they are open.

    • Thanks tonnes for the heads up, will be checking it out the next time I'm in the area. Cheers!
