$150 off Nikon DSLRs at JB Hi-Fi with Old Camera Trade in - Nikon D3100 DSLR Body Only = $279

760

Receive $150 off any Nikon DSLR with an old camera trade in. The only requirement is that the camera has a lens and it does not have to be in working condition.

JB did a similar trade in deal last year http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/82328 when something as cheap and simple as a disposable camera was acceptable for the trade in. Officeworks sell a fairly cheap disposable camera for $5.96

I just want to reiterate that a cheap disposable camera will be accepted for the trade in. I found these $3 ones in Coles Knox City if anyone in the area is looking for cheap disposable cameras.

This offer is in store only and only 1 trade in per transaction.

Offer valid until Sunday 21st July 2013 or while stocks last.

Here are some examples of prices after the $150 trade in:

Nikon D3100 Body $279

Nikon D3100 SLK $349

Nikon D3100 TLK $569

Nikon D5100 Body $375

Nikon D5100 SLK $476

Nikon D5100 TLK $669

Nikon D3200 SLK $505

Edit: As kindly pointed out by cjmorgan87 below:

Btw - the Nikon D3200, D5200 & D7100 all have cashbacks on them at the moment (not advertised)
D3200 - $100
D5200 - $150
D7100 - $150

So the Nikon D3200 would be a much better deal at the moment… $655 (less the $150 trade in less the $100 cashback) would only be $405!!!

Edit: just to clarify the cash back T&Cs as given to me over the phone by Nikon.
- the promotion runs from 16/7-31/7
- multiple claims can be made for the same product, with each item on their own individual receipt.

    • Nice, could you upload your receipt man? would love to try it.

      • Been looking for the upload button & I swear I saw something like that somewhere. Damn "Files" button. ^_^;

        http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/72858/17410/ozb.jpg

No this pic is not taken from D5200 lol. I need make a screen protection to cover the LCD before I start using it.

Thank u so much, KuroNeko. After seen ur post, i went to my local JB to ask for a price match. At first the beatiful young lady refused to do that because the Ryda is not in my local area. So i was little disappointed and said maybe i need to go to Sydney to try. Then the lady said she need to double check it with the manager. After 2mins, she returned and said to me they can offer me the price as urs which was $728 after trade-in. So happy to get this bargain. If anyone was seeking for a bargain for D5200, u can go to ur local JB and talk to the sales with patience and gentle. I think they will offer the same price. Good luck, OZbaigainers.

      • U r welcome. :)

    • Thanks for the tip. The trick was to find a local JB that would price match -before- trade-in. Now I'll have to pack up the D5100!

Dick Smith have 15% off cameras this weekend. They have the D5200 with 18-55 kit for $998 full price (so $848 with discount), so what are the chances of JB matching that, then still get the $150 trade-in?

    • w00t! That is even better deal!

      $999 - $152 - $150 - $150 = u win!

edit: oh wait, it says "15% off our already low prices on 'digital still' & video cameras".
      http://www.dicksmith.com.au/super-sale-sneak-peek

I dont think DSLR is classified as digital still. Correct me if I'm wrong, myself Im still a DSLR newbie. :)

      • Hmm, you may be right but I had interpreted that as just clarifying it covered both 'photo' and video camera varieties.

Will find out tomorrow I guess! If they are reduced I'll try my luck with a price match and trade at JB on the 5200

        • Jb-hifi do price matches? This is new to me, this would mean

          Nikon D5200SLK would be 550

          Nikon D3200SLK would be 450

Is the D5200SLK a whole lot of an improvement?

        • Yes they do, ask them nicely. If they dont, go to another JB.

The trick is, haggle them first, nicely & insisting. They would surely say they cant go lower that, say in this case, $999 for D5200. You need to make them say "if you seen better price on another shop", that is your cue. :)

Not much difference between those D5200 & D3200 except for the obvious screen flip which thats what I'm after. Plus among other slight improvements.

          http://snapsort.com/compare/Nikon-D3200-vs-Nikon-D5200

Now I'm off looking for the wireless module Nikon WU-1A (stream live screen & remote shot from your smart phone). JB sells it for $100. I believe I can beat that price. :D

          Edit:
The next cheapest shop for D5200 with 55mm (sorry, Sydney only) @ $929:
          http://www.georges.com.au/index.php/digital-slr-cameras/niko…

        • Thanks, how about price matching with this one?

          http://www2.topbuy.com.au/tbcart/pc/Nikon-D5200-DSLR-Black-S…

-also it seems it says on the DSE website that it is 10% off dslr but the price remains the same, I think they really messed up the update!

        • JB will only price match with actual shop, not online.
Also remember, you can only get that Nikon's $100/$150 rebate from the shops listed here:

          http://promotions.mynikonlife.com.au/Claim/Step_1

      • Doesn't seem to say excluding DSLR's on the DS deal so hopefully they are on sale. Will be trying my luck tomorrow if they are.

    • i might try that actually

  • Just got back from Parramatta store & they refused to take my point & shoot automatic Nikon film camera. I asked to speak to a manager when the young lady in the camera section said they got a clarification from their office that trade in camera has to be a DSLR. When I inquired where does that say in the ad she got a some one who claims to be a supervisor who confirmed trade in camera has to be a DSLR. I told him I wanted to contact their office & he opened the JB hif customer contact webpage at one of their computers. I waked out. as I was walking through Westfield I noticed another JB hifi & when I inquired about the trade in deal they said I can do with any camera regardless of working or non working. I wanted to get the D5200 body only with out the kit lens. It's priced at $899 & after the rebate it will be $749. They said they would accept any type of camera. Not the best customer experience from the JB hifi in Parramatta. They don't have the D5200 body only in stock & it has to be ordered.

    • There's two JBs in Parramatta?

      • Yeah, one inside Westfield at the end of level 5 food court. The other is somewhere at either George or Macquarie st, cant remember. Go to the one in Westfield.

Or you can try to go to nearest JB which is at Merrylands Stockland.

        • Funny they're so inconsistent.

        • Aahh I missed the old original JB that was located at Church st Parra eons ago. Those guys work till late & will beat anyone's prices no matter what.

    • @kalupahana Did you read this post http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/110634#comment-1507168 ?

D5200 Single lens kit $578 after price match, trade in, and cash back. Sell the lens on eBay for $78 and you have the D5200 body only for $500 with a 2 year Nikon warranty

      • Or, he can get D5200 with 105mm lens.

        $1199 - 110 (ryda) - 150 - 150 = $789

Then sell that 105mm to me for $89….

        Just kidding! :P

I contacted the customer feedback on JBhifi website I with in 2 min of emailing them. The manager of the store from Parramatta (this is located in Church St.) apologised & told me the sales staff & the supervisor was wrong there had been miscommunication. He told me indeed the trade was for any camera not just DSLR. I also got the following response. (I deleted the names) . Positive outcome & they have corrected their mistake.
      Hi
In this instance the staff member and store manager are incorrect, you are able to take in any camera for the trade-in. Please head back into the store, and if possible take this email, I can confirm that any camera will suffice.

I went back to Westfield Parra today & scored another price match for Nikon WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter.

    From $98
    http://www.jbhifi.com.au/photo/digital-cameras/accessories/n…

    To $49.95
    http://www.teds.com.au/nikon-wu-1a-wireless-mobile-adapter?C…

This thing is mad cool! Live stream & take shots remotely from my Nexus 4.

    • Apparently even better with DSLR Dashboard.

      • Yeah I'm using that now :)

        • You should post this as deal on its own for our new D3200, D5200 and D7100 friends (and Coolpix A, P330 and P520). Not sure why Ted's is so cheap, plus free shipping with code COMBINED. I got it delivered (shipped, apparently) rather than collecting it from the city, and my local JB didn't seem to have stock.

  • Just got the wireless adapter for $50 plus D5200 Body only for 804 - 150 - 150 (-GST). thanks guys for posting this. BTW 804 was price matched with Digital camera warehouse price.

  • Got the d5200 for 738 with trade in. If your in same don't waste your time in Adelaide cbd or gepps cross. Price match at modbury with ryda

  • Any luck price matching closer to Sydney City, like Sydney City, Broadway, Moore Park, Leichhardt etc?

  • got Nikon D7000 18-105 kit in JB @ $1.1k, cannot do trade in offer in conjunction with price match.

D3200 D5200 are too much plastic toys, they accept cheap camera toys as I showed them toy cameras for 15 bucks in bigw they said no problem to trade in offer.

  • I went to hornsby jb hi-fi and spend some time with the salesman. Unfortunately failed there. After I went to the sales manager,he told me that he can only do trade in offer or price match. Will try another jb hifi and see if it works.

    • Someone wrote above the traded-in cameras are the property of Nikon, so it seems rather bogus JB are not price matching - regardless of the trade-in. Unless they're not getting the full $150 back from Nikon.

      • I asked the salesman about that, he send they send it back to nikon and have no idea what they do with it. It's funny how many disposable cameras they'll be receiving.

    • same here, price match or trade in, cannot have both.

also argue that trade in offer are from Nikon, JB wont lose money. unfortunately say no again.

  • Bah that sucks, head office might have told them all to give the same story

  • Thanks OP and KuroNeko
    Just bought Nikon D5200 SLK($728, price matched and old camera trade in)+ Sandisk 32gb class 10 extreme sdhc($40) + Kenko UV filter($16) = $784
Then I gonna do cashback and TRS, would get final price around $563.
    Thanks all OZbargainer :)

  • Hi there,
Can you please share which store offered this. Please feel free to PM. Went to parramatta Westfield today and no go, only allow price match or trade in not both. Really like this camera for new kid on way. Cheers

    • You got the right shop.

First you need to bargain & ask for price match. Dont show your trade in camera yet.

But its too late now. :(

"Offer valid until Sunday 21st July 2013 or while stocks last."

      • In the store today, was really patient and asked for price match first. Said no go, lady said that manager that had approved price match previously during trade in sale got 'dinged' for it by the next manager up the line. Also memo in store says trade in valid thru 22 July, was printed out at register stand. Can someone please advise what store allowed price matches per above post at 4:20 pm, or below on D3200

        • Which store had the memo saying that the trade in was valid until 22 July?

    • Not sure if it's up to the salesperson or the store. No go with one dude at Moore Park, but Broadway was really helpful. The guy is not in tomorrow however and unless he got his days confused, he did say the deal was on till "tomorrow". Give them a call in the morning.

And oh, even a webcam was ok for trade-in.

      • +1

Thanks. I just bought a D3200 at the Castle Hill store (about 10:30 Monday), and the trade in deal was still honoured.

  • Is the deal over now? Any ozbargainers get too excited and now want to offload a d3200?

  • guys i tried to claim the cash back now. but when i was trying to upload a scan of my receipt (it says the file is not an image.

  • I picked up D7100 on the weekend, so wrapped,
cost me $1099 after the cash back and the rebate plus TRS

    • You may need to declare TRS refunds on your return trip.
