$150 off Nikon DSLRs at JB Hi-Fi with Old Camera Trade in - Nikon D3100 DSLR Body Only = $279

760

Receive $150 off any Nikon DSLR with an old camera trade in. The only requirement is that the camera has a lens and it does not have to be in working condition.

JB did a similar trade in deal last year http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/82328 when something as cheap and simple as a disposable camera was acceptable for the trade in. Officeworks sell a fairly cheap disposable camera for $5.96

I just want to reiterate that a cheap disposable camera will be accepted for the trade in. I found these $3 ones in Coles Knox City if anyone in the area is looking for cheap disposable cameras.

This offer is in store only and only 1 trade in per transaction.

Offer valid until Sunday 21st July 2013 or while stocks last.

Here are some examples of prices after the $150 trade in:

Nikon D3100 Body $279

Nikon D3100 SLK $349

Nikon D3100 TLK $569

Nikon D5100 Body $375

Nikon D5100 SLK $476

Nikon D5100 TLK $669

Nikon D3200 SLK $505

Edit: As kindly pointed out by cjmorgan87 below:

Btw - the Nikon D3200, D5200 & D7100 all have cashbacks on them at the moment (not advertised)
D3200 - $100
D5200 - $150
D7100 - $150

So the Nikon D3200 would be a much better deal at the moment… $655 (less the $150 trade in less the $100 cashback) would only be $405!!!

http://promotions.mynikonlife.com.au/Claim/Step_1

Edit: just to clarify the cash back T&Cs as given to me over the phone by Nikon.
- the promotion runs from 16/7-31/7
- multiple claims can be made for the same product, with each item on their own individual receipt.

  • Go for D5200 or D3200 since they're newer models

  • I don't see anything about trade-in in JB's website

    • +1

It's on the main page, just under half way down… Under the laptops

      • got it, thanks

    • how much for a D5200 with the single lens kit at JB?
      Any ideas?

    • +11

      D3200 with 18-55 : $655 - $150 - $100 = $405
      D3200 with 18-105 : $899 - $150 - $100 = $649
      D5200 with 18-55 : $999 - $150 - $150 = $699
      D5200 with 18-105: $1199 - $150 - $150 = $899

      • thankyou very much

      • DWI cheaper
        D3200 with 18-55 $500 (same as JB after the trade-in )
        D3200 with 18-105 $684 ($65 less than JB)
        D5200 with 18-55 $701 ($148 less than JB)
        D5200 with 18-105 $884 ($165 less than JB)

You'd need to check the lens speed to make sure of apples V apples but in all likelihood they're the same.

        • +3

          Well big differences here.

          1) DWI provides overseas stock. JB HiFi provides local stock.
          2) DWI provides 12 month warranty through DWI as opposed to 24 month manufacturer warranty if purchased through JB HiFi. http://mynikonlife.com.au/gear/warranty
          3) Can't get $100 cash back on D3200 and $150 cash back on D5200 on purchases through DWI. http://promotions.mynikonlife.com.au/Claim/Step_1

dhie20 has quoted the final local prices after both trade in and cash back. You'd have to be a looney to purchase through DWI.

        • Fair comment, I wasn't aware DWI were a "grey" site.

    • Ugh, that's so stupid ! How can the D5200 and D7100 have similar cashbacks when they're priced so differently. Sigh. Thanks for the link though ! :)

  • Can I use digital toy camera? I have one at home. It uses battery, has lens and can use USB to transfer the photos.

    • I think they mean a detachable lens?

BTW, the prices are only OK(ish) for the smaller models. The other ones are cheaper at places like DWI

      • +1

you can always argue with them since they are advertising it, and your toy camera has a lens and is still classified as a camera.

If they don't accept it, then they are false advertising. Since on their site it uses the absolute word "ANY" camera.

    • I was thinking of that too. It does say any camera as long as it has a lens. All cameras have a lens, the advertising doesn't say it has to be detachable.

      • +1

old mobile phone? They all have cameras since forever.

  • Nice. Don't suppose JB have an advertised price for the D3200 or D5200 without the kit lens….

  • Wouldn't mind seeing the trade-in t&cs somewhere.

  • +4

Found these $3 disposable cameras in coles http://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/39370/17389/image.jpg

    • True - they don't say it has to be a digital camera!

      • Well they accepted my $3 disposable camera so it's official.

        • Serious?

        • Yes, just as they accepted disposable cameras for the canon trade in deal last year.

  • Does anyone know if JB sell the 7100?

  • +2

Woohoo! I knew that crappy $10 poloroid video camera I got from Dick Smith a couple of months back would come in handy!

  • Last month Nikon was offering $200 Cash back.
Purchased Nikon D5200 with 18-105mm from JB-HiFi - Good deal:-)

    1090(JB-HiFi Deal)-$200(Nikon CashBack)-$99(TRS, as I am traveling overseas) = $791

  • DLSR only? no mirrorless cameras?

    • I cant seem to find any of the mirrorless on their website. Maybe they stopped stocking the Nikon 1 range?

  • I wonder what's the point of the trade-in, like what exactly do they plan to do with them?

    • Maybe they are hoping that not all their customers are from Ozbargain and aren't cheapos and actually trade in something that is good to on sell.

Or it could be a publicity stunt saying "we are going to recycle the cameras to save the environment"

  • Is buying the body only and sourcing lens thru ebay a cheaper option?

    • +1

yes, since kit lenses are often horrible. You can save a little extra and jump straight for the 24-70 and 70-200mm setups.

  • Don't understand this line 'multiple claims can be made for the same product, with each item on their own individual receipt'. Can somebody please explain?

    • +1

You can purchase say two Nikon D3200 cameras. You can claim for both the cameras but each camera will require a separate claim, so you need to purchase each camera on a separate receipt.

      • Got it. Thanks.

  • Damn… wish this was for Canon….

  • Anyone tried this deal?
Curious about using toy camera for the exchange

  • Wow this has really thrown the cat amongst the pigeons! I was super close to getting the Canon 60D from JB for $749 (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/110005) but now I'm not so sure. Can any SLR enthusiasts tell me what the Nikon equivalent is and which one they would recommend? I've read that some people claim the Nikon equivalent is the D5100 and some say D7000 so using current models I'm guessing that equates to the D5200 and the D7100? I haven't used either DSLR brand before so I haven't got any ingrained button layout/menu preferences though I have owned some cheap canon ixus cameras in the past.

    • Dude, Canon D60 is in between the D5100 and the D7000 in terms of features. Having said that the body type size controls are closer to the D7000. I recommend Nikon, much better than Canon in my view

  • I just picked up D7100 which I had asked them to do a best price on only yesterday. This offer beat that price by $70. I had called beforehand and when I came in they didn't even ask about the camera I was trading in, just put it through with $150 off list price.

    • +1

So what's the final price after cash back and the $150 Nikon rebate? cvas above was enquiring about this camera.

      • +1

List price is $1499 so $1349 from JB HiFi after the trade in and $1199 after Nikon rebate.

The 'best price' they gave me yesterday was $1428 and said they could throw in a card.

        • Which JB store is offering $1428?

    • Yeah I'd like to know the final price as well please.

  • +2

Thanks OP, picked up a D3200 for $505. I have registered for the $100 cash back which is via EFT transfer (best type of cash back). I have also registered for the two years warranty. This was a great find. Really wanted the D5200, but couldn't justify the price difference/percentage savings on the cheaper model. Yep this is now how I talk since I have been a part of the OzBargain community.
Just a side note, the cash-back requires a photo of the receipt, which only recognises the .jpg my iPhone saves it as a .JPG and I could figure out why it kept telling me that the file was not an image file. I changed the caps on the file and bingo..

    • Did you trade in old camera to get that offer ? I don't have any old camera , just wondering how can I get $150 off ?

      • Yeah I had an old olympus tough that wasn't working anymore (about 5 years old). JB accepted it happily with no memory card and no battery.

        • How is Nikon 3200 compared with Canon 600D ?

  • my store Coles is selling disposable for $10… which store is giving for $3

  • Anyone tried the disposable camera trade ins?

    • +1

      Yup.

I picked up a D3200 about an hour ago from Fyshwick using the officeworks disposable linked to above. The salesperson wasn't particularly happy about it but the manager didn't care.

      • I am in Melbourne, will give it a try. Looking at the D3200 as well.

      • Edit

      • Can you please upload your tax receipt, my local store just refused to trade in cheap camera

        • Just went to have a check in jb springvale, agent said anything called a camera is acceptable, working or not. Even a toy. Going to get a disposable one, to get the d3200.

          Even old phone with camera.

        • My tax receipt doesn't say anything about what sort of camera was used on the trade in.
It has a 1 liner that says something like 'trade-in -$150' (I don't have the receipt with me).

Ask the store employee to read out the T&C's that say you cant use a disposable, it doesn't say anything about what sort of camera.

  • Any comments on Canon 600D VS Nikon 3200 ?

Canon 600D with single lens is around $574 in Big W.

Not quite sure, which one should I choose as a entry level DSLRs.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    • http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon-600d-vs-Nikon-D3200 indicates that the 3200 is the way to go….

But note that there are other factors - do you have access to cheap/free lenses (friends with canon/nikon kit) for example. Some people prefer the 'feel' of Canon rather than Nikon, and others prefer Nikon. Personally I chose Nikon, but again - personal. If you're not sure, go into a store and try them both out. That's what I did.

      • Thanks for your response. In terms of technical perspective, which one is better ?

It seems most of my friends are using Canon.

        • Technically, the D3200 is better in many aspects although the Canon does have some advantages. Canon tends to be better at handling video (with their experience with video cams) if you are interested in that, but frankly video with a DSLR can be awkward at best. For me, the lower noise at higher ISO (meaning able to take photos in darker environments without a flash and/or can play around more with depth of field) combined with a (slightly) smaller/lighter body with larger sensor would edge me towards the Nikon if choosing between those two specific bodies.

That's the key though. If I had no DSLR now, and no existing lenses…. and wasn't interested in going full frame in the future…. I'd frankly be tempted by the pretty neat mirrorless jobs available now. Light, easy to keep with you, but potential image quality up there with most DSLRs.

Keep in mind that the camera is a tool - having a better tool helps, but it's how you use it that makes the biggest difference.

  • anyone know if JB sell the 3200 body only? price?

  • Nikon D5100 $150 offer does not show up in the promotion claim list.

    • Promotion Cash back is only applicable to new releases - D3200, D5200, D7100

      • Sorry, I am confused. Why did unity1 listed nikon D5100.

So, is $150 off in store only and done at the same time.

        • +3

Here people are discussing about two offers.
          1. JB-HiFi Trade In offer of $150 which is applicable on all Nikon DSLR Models.
          2. Nikon Cashback promotion only on D3200, D5200, D7100. You have to claim this through the promotion link.

  • Kogan sells Nikon D3200 for $499. Can you get the Nikon Cashback promotion $100 off with Kogan (ie. D3200 for $399)? Or does it have to be a retailer in Australia

  • How to get a old camera to trade in , any ideas ?

    • Read the information posted in the deal and you will find your answer. It has been mentioned over and over. I have even highlighted it in bold.

  • Got the d3200 for 505$ with a trade in of a 9$ disposable camera. Now gonna do the 100$ cash back. Cheers OP

  • Got d3200 with $150 trade in, going to claim $100, thx

  • I have a Nikon D60 and was considering getting a Panasonic Lumix DMC-G5 from this recent deal, probably with the twin lens kit if they get it back in stock.

However, now I'm not sure whether to get a Nikon D3200. What would you recommend? The comparison site says the D3200.

    • I also have an old D60, and in my case am tempted to go with the 3200. Quick check on eBay and the D60 is fetching up to $200 with lens, so all up the new camera may end up effectively costing $200……

  • Got the D3200 with trade in (an old film point & shoot we haven't used for years). Almost felt like I'd stolen it as I was walking out the door. Now registering…. Thanks, OP!

As an aside, they do sell the bodies only but they were a special order (at least in the store I went to). I didn't need the kit lens, but they had the kit in stock so thought it best to get it and register it now, rather than wait and possibly miss out on the cashback from Nikon. Can always sell the lens…..

    • If the kit lens adds $100, then not worth the bother. If it adds $150+, then will have to think about it.

Which JB store was that, btw?

      • Brighton Vic (on Nepean Hwy). Would add around the $100 mark, give or take a few bucks, it would appear. Found the original box for my D60, and will put it and the old 18-55 up for sale. The new 18-55 can sit on the shelf unloved as my 'if there are no other alternatives' lens. ;-)

    Thanks OP.
For once all stars have aligned for me. I was in a market for D3200, had some JB Vouchers to burn and own broken 11-year old IXUS Compact :)

Got this D3200 W18-105VR Kit for $590 after cashback:
    $840 - $150 = $690
Just made a claim for $100 cashback (yet to receive confirmation).

Also registered my 2 year Warranty on both the body and lens.

Not bad at all for camera that has current ticket price of $898-899 at JB, HN, Ted's, GG, and as high as $1249 at Myer. Cheapest Grey Import price was $575 shipped from City Wide. So only $15 more for Aussie stock and 2-year warranty. Very Happy!

    • How did you get for 840, website shows 899.Can you please attach your receipt?

      • Just had to ask - politely. Young Lady was very nice and helpful so I didn't try to get it even lower - had $700 worth of vouchers anyway ;)
        Receipt - good luck.

        • thank you for the receipt, will try with this.

Just received confirmation my claim has been approved. That took less than 24 hours from the time it had been submitted. They saw allow 14 days for the funds to appear in your account. Great work Nikon.

    • +1

Just got confirmation that mine has been approved as well. That's took only 1.5 hours. Well done Nikon :)

      • Mine as well

      • …and mine too. Less than 2 hours. Neat.

        • Still waiting on mine. Beginning to think I made a typo with email addess?

        • +1

          Check your junk mail

        • Yore right! Can't believe my Gmail picked up Nikon as spam..

    • Hi mate, when I claimed the cash back, it required recipient number, serial and barcode. I can see certain number on the invoice, but where is the serial and barcode? Thanks.

      • It's all on the box. There should be a serial number for the body and a serial number for the lens. Use the serial number for the body which is a 7 digit number starting with 814XXXX in the case of the D3200.

The barcode is the 12 digit code below the serial numbers and is 018208925117 in the case of the D3200.

      • +1

        Serial: on Camera Body itself
Barcode: on Camera Box (don't forget all 12 digits)

Receipt Number: I just used first 10 digits on my receipt (see blanked out portion in my previous post).

        (Edit: beaten by 1 second)

        • Thanks guys.

    • Same =D

Bought a D3200 today at Brisbane Central. Salesperson was quite happy to take the officeworks disposable. She printed out their staff memo about this deal which I'll regurgitate from memory as follows:

DO NOT LET SALES WALK AWAY. IF THEY WILL BUY THIS CAMERA IF IT IS REASONABLY PRICE MATCHED THEN SELL IT TO THEM.

    (bunch of filler)
    (bunch of filler)
    (bunch of filler)
    (bunch of filler)

ANYTHING WITH A LENS IS ACCEPTABLE FOR TRADE-IN. IT DOES NOT NEED TO WORK.

(bunch of text about how the trade-ins belong to Nikon and no staff can buy it/take it)

    • They also accept Webcam. :)

      • I was offered that as an option as the lovely salesgirl pointed to the appropriate section.

    Thanks OP & others.

Just got D5200 with 18-55 kit from JB Parra. Maybe I just got lucky coz the lady who served me is very nice & I'm being patience (& keep smiling) waiting 20+ min for her to check the net & her boss. :D

1st - price match with Ryda (their price $878 with 2 yrs warranty): so less $121
(must insist Ryda is local not grey import & has physical shop at Petersham, NSW. Bring photo, print out, whatever, just in case they can't access Ryda's site)
    http://www.ryda.com.au/Nikon-D5200-Digital-SLR-Cameras-s/139…

2nd - trade in my 20 yrs old SLR: less $150

3rd - get the cashback promo: another less $150

    $999 - $121 - $150 - $150 = VOILA! $578.

    Oh yes… $578 for D5200 55mm kit. From a local shop? This is AWESOME! :D :D :D

Good luck to the next buyer.
