    Sale starts 8 July 2013

    • That gives great promises for when the sale is on… if i can't even check a fare now due to the shitness of their servers.

Are they sharing a box with CToD and clickfrenzy?

I have been watching a return intra-Asia trip for the past week or so.
Yesterday it was ~$140AU return. Today its jumped to ~$200 return.

My bet is tomorrow it'll return to $140 return as part of the sale!

  • I wonder how many have lost sleep in the past over their 'biggest ever sale' and came away with nothing.

  • Just be warned that they can reschedule your flights at will, especially if the planes are not full. They just did that to my flights to and from KL with no compensation (we've lost 1day annual leave and half a day holiday…we also didn't buy promotion tickets to make things worse). Seems worse this year as it's the 3rd rescheduled flight we've been involved with vs 0 over the last 3-5yrs.

    • I think ANY airline (and definitely the budget ones) can do that. It's in their T&Cs.

Happened to me with Jetstar where my flight wasn't just rescheduled but cancelled altogether because the airline decided they don't want to fly direct between Gold Coast and Tassie anymore.

It can (and DOES) happen and will continue to happen with any airline, for both domestic and international flights.

That's why you need travel insurance but obviously no insurance can compensate you for lost holiday time.

    • Sorry to hear that Josaya, I have heard of them cancelling routes completely, or cutting back from say 7 days per week to 3 days per week (eg between Clark and Kuala Lumpur) like they did to me. After you have lodged your refund request, wait 2 weeks and then start nagging them on their facebook page, quoting your reference numbers). Although I knew it was possible/probable (being a cut price carrier) I had not actually heard of them cancelling a specific flight due to low passenger numbers. I have flown with them when their bird has only been half full, but maybe they needed to get the plane to the other end.

Booking tip, check days on an individual basis for availability, and book as far ahead as possible for the best chance to find the best fare. Also book your outwards leg, and your return leg seperately. That way, if there is a problem with your time off, you might just cancel and rebook one leg and be able to use the other leg. Otherwise you lose all of the return fare. Note, anyone cancelling Airasia flights can still apply for a refund of the taxes. The reason that they can offer these cheap fares, is because, by taking non-refundable bookings so far in advance, they know that a certain percentage will be 'no-shows'

    • This is true, i ended up not flying on one of my Air Asia legs…. but i called them up before the flight and they gave me a credit on my account. Which i used a few weeks ago to book another flight. So not all is lost :)

      • WOW! According to their facebook page, many people wait 2 hours on the phone line waiting to make contact with their customer service. And this is the first time that I have heard of them letting you cancel and giving credit! Did you have AirAsia travel Insurance? How did you justify to them cancelling a flight and getting a credit? I thought that all of their fares are non-cancellable & non-refundable!

Another booking tip. At the time that you book - if a long way ahead - there is no need to add baggage, or food, because these can be added a lot closer to your date at the same cost (except for fluctuations of exchange rates). But you need to book your food at least a week before your flight to ensure that you can get it. I often add baggage about 5 days before flight. If you have to cancel the flight, you will lose less money if you have not paid for food & baggage.

Sitting in Hoi An right now with the family due to previous Airasia sales (thanks ozb).
I can't afford a holiday like this any other way, so worth the minor hassles.
