  • saw plenty @ carousel in perth thursday

  • They have them at North Rocks in Sydney - I bought one (haven't tested it yet)

Let us know if the sound quality is any good?

      • I keep forgetting to test it, then it gets too late at night (like now) so no way to wind up the volume!

It has a 240V adapter inside the box - this powers the unit, or you can run it on 4 x AA's. I do not think that the 240V will charge the AA's (I'll try and test this ASAP)

There is a 1A USB charging outlet that you can plug your MP3 player into to charge it (not yet tested on iDevices). This charger only works when it's on 240V power.

I'll plug it in after I put my kid to bed, and see how it sounds.

        • OK - I posted a bit of a review below

  • Thanks will buy one tomorrow.

  • Seems a good deal.

    Not the one mentioned,£46.49

  • No built-in battery though .. might give it a miss

    • It takes 4 x AAs inside.

  • Anyone saw this in one of Brisbane stores (eg. Toowong or Indooroopily)?

    • @peuwayaqdq

Saw these the other day on the Sunshine Coast :)

  • Will 2 of these work together via bluetooth? Just curious.

Quick review - done at 11:00pm at night so I cannot wind up the volume.

Size is 257 Wide x 153 High x 84 deep. The black surface is now covered in my greasy fingerprints, but it wipes off OK. Has 2 inputs, 3.5mm line in and Bluetooth. Pairs easily and quickly without needing a code. I did not test how well it handles usage as a handsfree speakerphone, but they claim that it can do this. Dunno if it works in Facetime either.

There is a USB charging port that supplies the correct voltages to charge an iPod/iPhone. So you can use this instead of a separate phone charger. The unit is powered by a small plugpack, and it can also take 4 x AAs in the base if you want to make it portable. I didn't test, but the way other things are mentioned in the manual, I'd say that plugging in the 240V adaptor will cut the battery power (no charging circuit for the AAs)

Sound is pretty good, but a bit reserved at low volumes. Obviously doesn't have a Loudness equalisation on the volume knob. Once you wind it up, it brightens up, treble is crisp. Bass is firm (not mushy) but obviously it has no real thump as it's just too small.

Typical of all these types of units, it uses a low power 2x2W Amplifier IC and a pair of extremely efficient speakers. I have a lot of the $20 eBay ones with inbuild lithium batteries and the sound quality and volume is FAR better than you could expect.

To me it sounds about the same as a old $100-ish portable CD player. Not cheap and nasty sound or apprearance. No problems going loud enough to annoy family members. Overall, it will be an awesome present for my son.

    • Thanks, sounds like it's a decent unit for the price. I might get one!

  • Better off getting a JBL Micro wireless
Will cost more but smaller, you never need to pay for batteries and the sound will be better.

This feels like one of those items that you will use till the batteries run out.

    • It's not really a battery powered device, nor particularly intended to be small or portable.

It's basically a shelf-mounted speaker system for a bedroom etc. Most people would never even put batteries in it.

The JBL Micro Wireless is MONO (not stereo) and is a tiny little portable thingy (83mm diameter) to put in your pocket. The JBL is a very nice product, but not really the same thing at all.

  • Giving this a miss. Going for a Divoom instead.
