  • Is this a good price for ps3 500gb bundle? Im looking into buying one in next few days :)

If you want a larger HDD PS3 but don't want Motorstorm Apocalypse, then try this:
    Buy the 12GB model.
Buy this deal if you want a second controller.
Then buy a 750GB 7200RPM 2.5 inch HDD and upgrade it yourself.

    *edit
Just make sure you get a laptop HDD and NOT a portable USB HDD.

Also you will need to buy the HDD caddy/mounts (<$15 from ebay) and after including that it doesn't seem like that great a deal.

I actually think Harvey Norman has the best deal atm, but that's only my preference for games.

      $347, 500GB + 2x Controllers + Borderlands 2 + God of War 3

      • I didn't need to buy caddy/mounts for my original PS3, I didn't think you needed to for the newer ones either.
The standard HDD, as far as I'm aware, is a 2.5 inch notebook drive, so you take that one out and put in the new one you've bought.

The 12gb ps3 doesnt include any hdd. Its flash memory.

confirmed that u'll need the caddy. Get it from jb hifi cheapest.

        • Ahhh, thank you :)

I got this bundle from EB Games last week: https://ebgames.com.au/ps3-999903-New-500GB-PlayStation-3--T…

500GB PlayStation 3 + The Last of Us + Battlefield 3 for $349. Considering The Last of Us retails on average for about $89 (which is one of the best games I have ever played, and the essential reason for buying a PS3 at the moment IMO), and Battlefield 3 for $20-30, it's a good deal.

Never seen so many other deals mentioned in one bargain post

I'm not sure this is a bargain then, seems like standard price, and just depends on what games you want with it.

  • I just price matched the Kmart deal at EB on George st today at lunch. They offered me a wider selection of games instead of being stuck with just ModNations. Try that if you prefer.

You can get the 12GB PS3 with Little Big Planet instead of Modnation for a dollar cheaper at:

The Target deal, also $199 for a 12GB PS3, has a choice of two games and you get a HDMI cable too.

  • If you don't want a kinnect you can get a 4GB 360 for $138 at Big W
    http://www.bigw.com.au/entertainment/video-games-consoles/xb…

Then for either bargain you can expand your storage space with a 320GB hard drive off ozgameshop.com for $99.

I'd personally hold out a bit longer. I have a 500GB FIFA13 bundle sitting in my closet that I picked up for $198 and where were $130-160 bundles flying around too. None of the OP's deals are tremendously good - wait until PS4/XB180 drops for the big price changes.

  • I've been eyeing a PS3 for a while now, but this new 12GB model confuses me. It's cheap alright, but isn't that just way too small storage space? If we forget about movies, TV, music etc. how much is the small storage going to effect with just games? Installing games for faster loading times is one thing, but is there anything else I'd miss out on with a small storage version?

    • Some disc based games install ~4GB of data to the HDD (eg, Saints Row 3, RAGE required 8GB). Add to that any updates that might be required and you will find that storage disappears very quickly.

Any games you purchase through the PS Store require approximately twice the free space to download eg
      Uncharted 2

      Important Notices
      - Download requires 39GB of free HDD space and may take a significant period of time to complete. After the download has completed this title will occupy 19.5GB of space on your HDD.

I think 12GB models are really only an option for those who intend to add a hard drive them selves.

Unconfirmed, but does the system OS install onto that 12GB drive? You may find that when you turn it on you don't even get 12GB….

      • Excellent, thank you for that explanation. Definitely 12GB won't be enough then. But considering I have some old laptop hard drives floating around, I might just get the 12GB, the HDD bracket and upgrade it myself. Based on a quick look, all of the other internals and specifications are exactly the same between these latest models, it's just the storage capacity that varies, is that correct? So I'm not missing out on anything by going the upgrade route?
Anyway, this might actually be quite bad a moment to buy the PS3, with the new one around the corner prices will surely fall even more. Not to mention that there have actually been cheaper offers around, haven't there?

        • Most likely to be a price drop and there have been cheaper units (example @Target$149). Personally I prefer the old Slim units, on their final revision they are effectively identical to the new Super Slim, but without the top loading disc drive (which I don't like).

Apart from the storage each PS3 Super Slim is identical, perhaps even the 500GB model has a 12GB flash drive as well totaling 512GB?

  • Thanks OP. This deal is on Page 21 of their catalogue

    On a sidenote,

Does anyone have the item code for the 320 G Hard drives on Special at Target for $24.95 I rang Target to check for hard drives but could not find any. They couldn't find the item without the stock code.

Can anyone please upload a receipt
