Free magazine - "Vertical Thought" - magazine for young Christians

55

"Vertical Thought is a free magazine for young Christians which discusses life’s challenges from a biblical perspective."

Not everybody will be interested since it's religious but I thought I'd post it anyway because it's free. Click on the 'Vertical Thought' banner at the top of the page to select a subscription.

I think the posting of any type of "free" religion-based "literature" is abusing the concept of OzBargain.

    What will it be next?

    Free Scientology audits?
    Free confessions?
    Free Mormon visits?
    Free Fundie singsongs?
    Free talking-in-tongues?
    Free snake-handling?
    Free exorcisms?
    Free virgin sacrifices?

Feel FREE to add your own…

    • So because it religion based its against the rules to post?
But its ok if its about:
      Popular science http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/10398
      Caravans http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/10435
      Australian history http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/9975
      Womens Nike magazine http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/7275
      PC's http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/8043
      Or random ones http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/9687

These are just results from the first page of a 'free magazine' search

Get of your soapbox, just because you don't like religion doesn't mean you should be a douche

What did all your examples have in common? They are all about real things or real events. Religion has no basis in fact. In fact it is quite fraudulent and any priests/monks etc who accept money for their services should be charged under the same laws that cover deceptive trading. So the criteria for my negative is that this site should deal with reality and honest deals - and religion doesn't fit that criteria, sorry.

It is only of your opinion that religion has no basis in fact- i believe otherwise however my OPINION does not change the fact that (you dont need to be religious to know if christianity has fact in it or not- try doing some history!) , whether religion is based on fact or not, is completly irrelevant to this discussion! You really need to understand that religious or not- most religious materials you usually need to PAY for. Eg. from christian book shops etc. So this therefore is allowing a free access to materials that people may only be curious about reading.

Young people deserve to have these materials accessable to them however it is.

          and in the end,
If you dont like it.. again i go back to my point from before.. DON'T READ IT!
Noone is forcing you to read it- so leave it to the people who actually are.

@lees_: Aside from the fact that misguided people have BELIEVED in religion over time - in history - name a single verified fact about the basics of religious belief. You will not be able to.
My point about religion being based on falsehoods and make-believe is entirely relevant to why this should not be on this site. If anyone posts a product that has no basis in fact and is spruiked by people who know it's a lie, then it is voted off this site. I am being entirely consistent in applying same.

@kaddude: clearly your reality is in material things.
this is your opinion- so please if you don't agree, don't click on the damn link its pretty simple. The whole time i have held back from voicing my own religious opinion and i will still refrain from that as i will be stooping to the level of the people like you who don't understand it.
Obviously you have not studied History and Science to understand how religion is everywhere in fact through digs done in many places mentioned in the bible and the bible is not the only document found that supports that there are many things that are fact.

Your opinion this is a lie is just as valid as me saying i think something as common as golf is a lie. Who knows.. maybe in my world, it could be. So what, does this mean i can go on part of this site and slag off anyone who puts up a post about golf. It is irrelevant what the object is- because your opinion that this is a lie- is based on your opinion.

what makes me wonder is why you clicked on this link in the first place if you don't agree. strange huh..

I don't think it's trying to convert anyone. The mag is aimed at people who are already Christian and want to read Christian material.

  • I agree with Horizon. Should I post the links to free Richard Dawkins videos? Religious propaganda is hardly a bargain.

This isn't fair for you to judge on. It is merely making it available for people who are interested. If you are not interested- its plain and simple- don't look at it!

For those young christians who actually want to read this- it should be freely accessable just as much as anything else you both would look for on this site.

    Don't knock it.
Just don't look at it if you don't approve!

Not a comment on you lees_ but this is EXACTLY the argument for posts like the 'adult' products recently posted, and yet so many people jumped onto their self-righteous soapboxes to decide for the rest of us what is right and wrong.

Just like with that post (and allegedly offensive material in print, on tv, in movies), if you don't like it then don't watch it.

While I am all for free christian bargains (e.g. word sales) this does not strike me as a bargain.

Did anyone notice the Religious add that appeared on this page? Is it a paid advetisement that appears when posts match it message? I guess if that is the case then it has been anticipated that religiuos "bargains" will be posted, in which case this would be a legitimate deal. If you are not interested in the bargain then don't take up the offer. It is always interesting to read comments of those who are afraid of religion.

Not afraid of religion. Often afraid of the insane actions of its deluded followers.

Not really a bargain- it has never costed anything.

  • +2

    SPAM! Not a bargain.

real christians wouldn't want to read this. UCG is a cult based on dodgy "armstrongism" theology that denies the Trinity.
