    lumens output?

    • +1

420lm for cool white and 400lm for warm white.

      • +2

This isn't really "high performance" by today's standards. 10.5W can get you 720 lumens warm white (Brightgreen brand) which is normal 50W halogen.

        • +1

The Bright green model you refer to is also double the price. This model we have advertised is the best value for it's price point right now in the Australian market. Sunny Lighting has done a great job at engineering for the residential market and has done so at a fantastic price point, allowing thousands of Australian families to make the switch to LED, without having to pay $40-50 for the privilege.

          doesn't really answer johnt107's point.
it may be cheaper but does it rate as "high performance" if a different model offers almost twice the lumens for a 1.5 watt power increase.

sorry johnt107 clicked negative on your comment by accident. couldn't see how to revoke it :(

It is all relative. In comparison with other models in this price point, it is most definitely a high performance unit.

        • Correct. All LEDs downlights these days are around the 400lm mark all cost around $20 to $30. But I have to say Sunny Lighting is a good brand compared to all those no brand eBay ones.

      • +2

Is this not misleading the fact that you pointed out it's a 90% saving on energy consumption?
This 9w LED would have to replace a halogen lamp of 90 watts to gain that much savings.
Theis level of output is only adequate to replace 35w halogens tbh.

        • -5

Add in the fact that this globe will last 10 times longer than the halogen, and the savings range around the 90% mark. There is nothing misleading about the information presented. This model is one of the highest volume selling models going around and Sunny Lighting has positioned themselves as a leader in the industry at this price point. Their products are sold in every major electrical wholesaler in the country.

  • Where do you use this light in? Cars?

    • This is a down light used in residential applications. They sit inside the ceiling and produce light toward the ground.

      • +1

        I see. Cheers.

  • Would it be a straight swap with an existing halogen downlight?

    • It is a GU10 kit so does not require a transformer or driver. Your electrician just needs to remove the old down light and simply install these in their place. Everything you need is included in the kit. The electrician just needs to connect them to power.

      • Is it dimmable, I need dimmable?
Also please clarify, are those the hole sizes or the tip to tip flange sizes?

      • For those who already have a MR16 which I believe most houses are these days, it will be a better option to swap out with another MR16 LED downlight rather than getting an electrician to replace with this one.

  • $22 for a single downlight? It'll be cheaper for me to buy a new house than to replace all the lights.

    • Welcome to the smoke & mirrors world of "green" LED lighting. CFLs will do just fine for me! ;)

  • CFL is certainly an option on the energy saving front. However the fact they can't be dimmed and also take several seconds to reach full capacity is I appealing to some consumers. It is an entirely different technology.

    • However the fact they can't be dimmed…

      This model is not dimmable.

      …and your point is???

It is an entirely different technology.

      …it is also a shitload cheaper! :)

BTW, you can also get dimmable CFLs now, just FYI…

  • Un dimable CFL is about half the price of LED. Dimmanle CFL is going to cost you more than the $22 for this LED. It would be a poor choice to buy dimable CFL under those circumstances. Dimable CFL are too expensive to be considered since the price of LED has dropped so significantly in the last 12 months.

    • +1

Again, why are you comparing dimmable CFL to this LED??? You said:

      This model is not dimmable.

I don't know where you get your non-dimmable CFLs, but they are most certainly not half the price of LEDs…much less than a quarter IME…

Please learn to use the reply link too, it keeps the thread cleaner.

  • I recently installed a few downlights. $13 each from bunnings - 'Nelson' brand. I replaced the G10 flourescent globe with a 9W LED version that I got from ebay for $3 each (delivered). And I'm very happy with the result.

I'm no expert when it comes to lighting but Ive never heard of sunny lighting (sounds Chinese?). It just doesnt seem like much of a bargain to me…

BTW I thought that the claim that you could save hundreds a year was a bit of a stretch, until I found this at http://www.savepower.nsw.gov.au/portals/0/docs/household/fac…

"A 50 watt halogen downlight used 4 hours a day will cost more than $26* a year to run. If you had a room with 8 halogens and ran them for 8 hours each day, it would cost you almost $420* every year". Wow!

    • Sunny Lighting is an Australian owned and run brand. They have offices in every major city in Australia. As far as buying globes from eBay at $3, unfortunately you will see why that is a bad idea over the coming months. Either you got really lucky, or like almost everyone else who went down that path, the globes will start failing. Lighting is no different than any other product, you get what you pay for.

      • +2

I wish "you get what you pay for" was always true. Sometimes we pay good money for things that are marketed as reliable but are just as unreliable as cheaper items.
That said, there are some brands that have built a reputation for quality products and you do pay more for them. Its definitely worth spending the extra money for these.
