This is normal right?
How is this an ultra book?
It's called an Inspiron 15z Ultrabook.
It is a light weight laptop that is just around 2.1 kg
macbook pro 15" with retina display weighs 2kg…
my HP slimbook weighs 1.8kg and it's not considered an ultrabook
You can check up the ultrabook requirements as defined by Intel online, but the short answer is there isn't actually a weight specification they need to meet. It needs to be smaller than a certain thickness, but technically can weigh as much as it wants.
It seems a bit stupid to me too, I generally associate these things with being super-slim-and-light but they don't have to be.
yeah i looked up
it's mostly power consumption, file transfer speed, thickness
which seems stupid not to limit the weight
Alzori I don't know where you get your information but here is what Intel has to say about it http://www.intel.com.au/content/www/au/en/learn/ub-buyers-gu…
So under 1 inch thick and under 4 lbs.
Personally I'd call that a weight specification.
@ZRXS12
I got my information from Wikipedia here, the only place that I could find with a somewhat definite list of requirements. Kudos for finding something written on Intel's site, I had a lot of trouble searching there through all the fluff about how amazing they are.
Looking further at the wikipedia page, there is mention of a 1.4kg weight requirement on the talk page for adding ultrabooks to the list, but I have no idea where that came from.
Yes it's odd that there isn't a more definitive list somewhere on the Intel site.
I suspect the 4lb weight limit does not apply to 'ultrabooks' 14" and over - if it did then Dell would not be allowed to use the trademark Ultrabook for laptops like this (and neither would Asus and some other brands for some of their offerings).
It's as much an ultrabook as the Asus S400C and S500C and some of the cheap HP ultrabooks - which is to say it meets Intel's criteria to use the name 'Ultrabook', but imo with some of the thin/light/premium intent of the name lost.
IMO Intel has dropped the ball a little with their criteria (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ultrabook) for the larger 14" and 15" ultrabooks - machines like this just aren't that far off a traditional laptop. Max thickness of 23mm just isn't thin enough to be considered anything special and as Alzori says below there is no actual weight criteria.
It has an optical drive and normal HDD
do you even know what an ultrabook is?!
do you know what an ultrabook is?
go look up the specification require by intel for a laptop to be branded an ultrabook.
This laptop pass all the requirement to be call an ultrabook.
If you think this is not an ultrabook you should complain to intel to why their standard is so low.
Please put the actual model name and number in the title.
Done
I was just thinking to myself 5 mins ago -"I wish someone would post a reeally good ultrabook deal….
alas this is not quite it…
what specs were u looking for?
an ultrabook
gee why dell states it's an ultrabook when it isn't…
Dell classify this as an ultrabook, which it isn't. The OP is just stating what Dell reports it to be.
Maybe something in the title to say this model is save $400 ATM, might be something the OP might want to add (to show this is a deal)
ok
Tech Specs:
http://www.dell.com/au/p/inspiron-15z-5523/pd
$400 off regular price according to Dell
Not a bad price for what it is. Bit of a stretch calling it an Ultrabook though. Dell's fault though, not the Op's.
Low res screen. Next!
This seems a pretty damn good deal to me, especially for a high quality brand. Or am I missing something?
The only cons I can see are : 1366x768 res; small 32GB SSD (is that sufficient to run Win8, Office, Photoshop, etc); thicker & heavier than 'standard' ultrabook (however, this approved due to touch screen aparently).
Am in the market for an 'all-purpose' laptop (gaming, vids, image editing, etc), especially of the ultrabook variety and think this maybe the way to go @ $899 delivered.
Would love to hear anyone's opinions on it ;)
32GB SSD is mSATA (mini-SATA). It works in conjunction with the HDD to speed up tasks.
You may be able to install Windows on the mSATA and use the HDD for storage (you should research this).
Ports:
(3) USB 3.0 + (1) USB 3.0 PowerShare
RJ45 Ethernet ,(10/100/1000)
HDMI v1.4a,
I don 't buy Dell's anymore since they stopped allowing you to customise the PC's and Laptops with bigger hard drives, extra RAM and other extras.
They are now just prefigured computers like you buy in a store.
Haswell?
Lol look at how hard and fast these laptop deals are coming out of the closet.
Haswell incoming and everyone's trying to get rid of their old models.
Hang on and we'll see even greater bargains in the coming weeks.
Meh, guess I'll take control of my impulses for another day and wait for the "even greater bargains in the coming weeks" ;)
