problem is that if you're on ADSL on a Telstra line, you'll have to change your internet too…

    • Your post could be a bit clearer. Are you saying that having ADSL (and/or ADSL2?) prevents you from changing your phone provider?

      • +1

You have to have a phone line with Telstra to get ADSL (no naked dsl) so it's not really worth it.

        • -1

          No "naked" DSK…?
That's Telstra - again - refusing to play by the rules of what the technology is capable of doing…

…thereby forcing its customers to pay even -more- for their home / small business Internet services.

        • The government set the (crap) rules. Companies naturally make the most of them. The public just pay the bills. So for any artificial infrastructure limitations blame the government.

I tried to port my number earlier this year. Telco (not MyNetFone) wouldn't take take my number. Rang ACMA. The said number portability means a company must allow you take your number (leaving) but other companies do not have to receive it(!) Hence most of the time they prefer to give you a new number, charge whatever they like to port or create their own rules as to which scenarios they will accept a port. Can be very frustrating!

        • governments have no power
when the mining industry can sack the PM realise that politicians are in bed with business white anting the best interests of citizens and OBs.

  • Not bad for porting a DID (if they allow that) or if you're one of the lucky few on NBN.

    • Come at just the right time. NBN was recently activated in my area (brownfield).

  • I got this emailed to me too. Interesting, though in fairness it belongs in the forums I think

      Why?

The deal here is the $30 saving (DID fee / year), and they'll give you $20 on top.

      It seems you'd be $50 better off…

      • Well explained sir, I stand corrected :)

Have been happily using MyNetfone for years but on Whirlpool plan (pre-paid amount, no monthly plan). This seems to require a VOIP plan, lowest seems to be $9.95 per month.

    • I am also on their Whirlpool plan. Was a no brainier as I have cable internet. Been trouble free for about 6 years.

From what I read, there is NO monthly cost for the low-end (WhirlpoolSaver) plan.

If you don't want to pay for a DID number, give your mobile number to those you'll accept calls from and set your (outgoing) VoIP service to identify caller-no. as your mobile no'.

PS You can save calling-fees (for VoIP to VoIP calls in AU) by dialing SIP no's instead of phone numbers… great for businesses with 2 separate buildings / locations.

        Ringing a SIP # can be like dialing a PABX's exchange #. but longer… ;-)

I take it you need to apply for one of the plans stated to be eligible to get the $20 credit. So after the 1st mth could I just change the plan to the WP saver $0 ($5/yr DID) one?

Also what is 'Number Hosting'? I thought it was the DID; or does it mean that my number will be listed in yellow/white pages?
