Sony DSC RX100 $610 Harvey Norman (Official Australian Stock/Warranty)

171

JBHifi offered a "floor stock" one to me the other week for $615 so this is pretty good!

The pocket-sized DSC-RX100 is the world's first¹ 1.0 type CMOS sensor (13.2 x 8.8mm) with a resolution of 20.2 effective megapixels and F1.8 Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 3.6x optical zoom lens. It's the key to beautiful, detail-packed images and Full HD movie clips with very low noise.

I saw a note on a blog yesterday that this has come down in price in Europe, suspecting it might come down elsewhere too

    • …WHERE THE HELL WAS THIS DEAL 1 MONTH AGO.

I would seriously have considered it since the x100s stock was so stupidly hard to get.

  • I was just about to buy this from Eglobal, price would be around $530, has anyone purchased from them before? are they reliable?

  • JR duty-free in Brisbane are doing it for $500. The deal was posted two weeks ago. So, not a bargain. This is not the duty-free price.

Not every city has JR duty-free store though.

      • It's not hard to get a price-match ;-) It's too easy to get Harvey Norman to match them - trust me.

    • I have been into JR Duty Free in Melbourne twice in the last week or so and they have scoffed at me about the 500 price saying that it was a once in a lifetime and will never happen again, do Brisbane really have this still going, should i argue with the Melb store?

This is a brilliant point and shoot camera for the price that also has very high quality video recording capabilities. But $610 doesn't seem like a great deal. If you don't mind grey-market then DWI has them for $554 delivered: http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/astore/Sony-Cybershot-DS…

I've bought cameras from DWI and never had any issues. Not sure if HN would price match DWI though?

Oh, and for anyone interested here's a sample of video recorded purely on the RX100:

    • Wow, amazing video with great music.

    • HN Won't price match grey market, because they are selling local warranty and stock.

This is non grey market, which some people prefer.

Local warranty is worth the $50 more (to me).

Plus Sony will match this price if you want to get it from a Sony store and get their free advise etc :P

      • Will anyone do the duty free version of this price?

      • True, when buying grey-market you really have to weigh up the cost of either local repair or the hassles and time of getting your grey-market warranty honoured by sending your goods back to asia, against the local retail price.

In this case the extra $56 in savings may not be worth it considering a faulty grey-market camera would easily set you back at least $100 to get repaired locally if time is of the essence and the potential hassles of getting it fixed under the 1-year grey-market warranty are not worth it to you.

I'm lucky as I have never had any issues with grey-market items and the cost savings in the long run would far outweigh any possible future expenditure should faults arise.
