Might also be worth considering this offer from ryda which is in Sydney: http://www.ryda.com.au/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=DMCGF5… $348.85 - local warranty and comes with free lowepro bag (but BEFORE you click - it says stock expected soon - I am not buying one but it might be worth asking if you are interested for the warranty aspect - shipping is $9.95). It looks like both amazon and this one come with the 14-42 power zoom lenses.

Ryda kit is most definitely not a power zoom!

      • -1

        According to the website:

Includes Lumix G Vario 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 ASPH Lens

yes, and the power zoom is LUMIX G X VARIO PZ 14-42mm/F3.5-5.6 ASPH. Anything with the power zoom will have an "X" in the kit model number, the picture of the lens on the Ryda page also confirms it is not the power zoom. I have both and I know the difference.

        • Understand what you have and that you know a lot more because you own (and perhaps you paid more too..)

The Ryda website have taken time to highlight that this one comes with Zoom at multiple places - you can click on the 4th photo in the alternate view to see the zoom.

It may as well be a bundle!

The only difference it seems to me is it is on back order.

        • skinny, I don't own a GF5 but I owned both lenses at one point in time. BTW, the GF5 has been superceded by the GF6, which is why the price of the GF5 kit is lower now.

You are confusing zoom with power zoom. Panasonic makes 2 (technically 3 if you count both non-powered versions) 14-42mm lenses.
The original non-powered 14-42mm zoom has now been replaced with version 2:
          http://www.dpreview.com/news/2013/01/29/Panasonic-announces-…
(btw, the Ryda kit comes with the older version 1 lens)

          then there's the power zoom
          http://www.dpreview.com/previews/panasonic_x_14-42_3p5-5p6

There's probably $150 difference if you buy the non-powered vs powered zoom lenses by themselves. You can guess which one is more expensive.

    • panasonic is one of the very few offer global warranty on their cameras. worth getting imported

      • The point is that it's roughly the same price in Australia, with an extra bag,(albeit it's not in stock at the moment).

        • Panasonic is obviously not doing a good job highlighting the difference between the normal zoom and power zoom. see my comments above.
