replacement uniden BT-694 BT694S batteries can be ordered on ebay from an Aus seller for $4 each delivered (or cheaper from china with a wait). http://tinyurl.com/bcsvpf5

how long do they work until they cause a fire that destroys your house?

      • +2

        are they marxist revolutionaries?

      • Most, if not all of these on sale are Ni-MH which are pretty stable (much more stable than Li-Po). I would happily go for the ebay ones anyday with no significant increase of fire risk.
        Batteryworld are ripoff merchants too.

I recently bought 4 replacement batteries from eBay from 4 different sellers for my Panasonic cordless phones. Why 4 from 4 different? Because a friend had a bad experience with "extremely short lived" batteries before I did.
All 4 of the batteries i received also had very short life spans (I get about 2h from 1 call before the phone goes flat). The suppliers obviously use significantly less chemical/cheaper mix to save $$.
If anyone knows of a supplier that sells decent batteries, let me know - because I've not had a single success with eBay batteries (even with a copycat Nikon camera battery I bought a few years ago, which was the closest I've come - at about 80% performance of a genuine battery)..

        • You need to find a shop that has decent reviews, I have bought a few batteries off DX, and all the well reviewed ones were between satisfactory to as good as original.

why are cordless phone batteries so expensive?

    • Because Batteryworld has to make money somehow.

  • Bang and olufsen beocom 6000 battery.. What's one of them worth?

  • You can make your own using the soldering kit you got from here http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/71284
and the eneloops you got from here http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/86246

    and here are the instructions

or for those that like youtube videos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pde31mDwCaY

and then call the fire brigade when your house burns down because you were too tight to spend 25 bucks on a pair of batteries.

    • why would your house burn down if you are using eneloops in a slow charging device?

      that makes no sense.

can you show some proof that "home made" cordless phone batteries have caused a house fire.

      • I was just putting it out there to be careful altomic. You can do what you like, I am just saying be careful if you don't know what you are doing. I don't want to be even remotely responsible for anyone getting hurt for the sake of a few dollars.

    • You can probably save money on the eneloops and buy normal nimh batteries since these phones sit on the charger most of the time

  • My eBay bought replacement battery is still working after 2 years and lasts significantly longer than the original Uniden (due to its higher mAh rating). Still, $12 per battery when you can return if faulty is not too bad a deal.

  • This is only a 'bargain' if you reference it to Battery World's regular prices - which are anything but.
The only keenly priced product I've ever seen them sell (in, intentionally, very limited quantities) were the 'smoke alarm promo' 9V batteries - and not the recent (3rd of the life) 'super heavy duty' jobbies - but the previous years' alkalines.

Just to follow up on what altomic said - irrespective of whether you give some Ebay or China store replacement batteries a go, or make up some yourself from solder-tag cells, NiMh batteries don't pose a fire risk on a low current charge.
Only when there's something amiss with the charger component itself is there a potential issue - but twas ever thus.
