Sorry, first post on ozbargain, Just added a link then.

      • Where's the information about the free 250 points? It's not on the link provided.

        • Couldn't find it on the website, Just had it emailed out to me thats why I placed the image

      • No worries! Welcome!

  • • No spyware or adware

    Trust me…

    • Have you tried?

  • yay more toolbars, don't forget to install incredimail!!

  • Was a fair bit off hassle for 250 pts, my anti-virus said it wasn't safe. Plus you have to complete 10 valid searches as well.

I have so many toolbars now.. My first screen is just the tool bars. I have to use a second monitor for my browser window.

  • neg for sure

not to mention 100 points is worth what, like $0.50?

  • +3

wow another big brother on your internet - so FlyBuys are going to check what we are shopping for??

    • Nope they're watching aaaaall of your internet searches too, debo.

  • +8

As if monitoring everything you spend through them is not enough, now they want to know every search you do. And for what 50c?

Flybuys can hum on my nuts
    …freaking toolbars

Lifehacker did a great write up on this…

    http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2012/11/flybuys-toolbar-sells-o…

    • Good write up. Bloody sneaky that on one hand they say we don't sell your data but then in the fine print the say yeah actually we do what a con.

  • +1

they will sneak on everything & anything u do on internet & search… frankly they r trying to purchase the privacy of users and paying then 50cents pm…
they will earn much more by selling this to advertisers and other who may use ur search details…
just say no & promote NO for this stuff…. hate it when these companies do stuff like this…

I obviously dont go for this kind of stuff but feel sorry for those who will try it out

How is this a deal when its clearly worthless points for taking/stealing your data?

  • Accepting 50c to allow spyware. Clever

Is there a way to do this via a sandbox / incognito type way, install, do 10 searches, get rid of in one clean swoop?

I'm thinking, I would get the 250 points and permanently remove it so a sandbox type mode makes best sense from a privacy standpoint.

    • Install VirtualBox (or your favourite virtualisation software), download a trial version of Windows from Microsoft's site, install it all, and play with it. Then delete it when you're done.

      • A lot of work for 250 points, but I do have a reason to set up a VirtualBox at the moment for work so I might just do that. Thanks for the suggestion :)

    • make sure your 10 searches are the nastiest things you can think of - make em specific with lots of colorful language :)

Agree with earlier comments - this could be categorized as a combination of spyware and ambush marketing. Big neg.

  • What's the problem with installing a browser like chrome or something that you only use once a month to build up your fly buys points? Just make up 10 random searches (for rainbows, lollipops, sunshine every day…)

    • I toyed briefly with the idea of building a bot program for this but the value of the points would be tiny compared to the cost of my time. Maybe if I felt like investing some time learning about building browser bots.

    1. OP is probably a sock puppet
    2. "No spyware or adware" - although you allegedly can't be identified they store your data in aggregate form to use for marketing… Sounds a sh!tload like spyware to me!
    3. Lol @ 100 points a month

I'm only new to Ozbargain, this is my first attempt of placing a bargain. Although all I have received is negative feedback it won't stop me from trolls like you belittling people over the internet, big man.

      • Hey Corzatruck, welcome to Ozb!

You will quickly learn what a picky bunch we are, but hopefully you'll hang around long enough for us to grow on you. It's not personal :)

        • Haha thanks Tafe, I really appreciate the support. I guess I was a little taken aback by the criticism

        • +1

Yeah don't take it personally mate. I once shared a deal which I thought wasn't too bad and got an absolute hammering for. Neg city. Persevere, OzBargain really is worth it!

        • +1

yep don't take it personal - this is a great post really as it's an awareness raiser - also consider OzB when submitting deals as more of a "I think this is a deal - let's see how to stands up against the experts"

        • So true :)

I'm still going to get my 250 points from this deal by running it though a virtualbox, no risks of residue 'spying' and quickly removed afterwards when I wipe the virtualbox.

You'd like it wouldn't you, Flybuys, if I was that cheap.
