  • Good price for simple nas, but unfortunately not a great product. Slooooow, just like its dual disk nas sibling.
But on the other hand, you can play around with it quite a bit.

Personally would save my money for proper nas but still a good deal.

    • what's the difference between this and having files on an FTP?

I know there is a huge size difference but as if ur gonna download over a few gigs from an external internet source.

Doesn't it also depend on your upload speed? most people in aus with adsl2 can only upload max about 100kbps which would take more than a day to download a few gigs :P

That said, what's the advantage of this unit over ftp servers?

      • you can hack it to use as torrent server. I downloaded 1G data in hardly 20 mins (enough seeds should be available). :-)

  • good price.

  • be careful when buying one of these… i've got the 2x500gb version, and it has been acknowledged that these devices can't support 1Gb transfer even if the marketing brochure says so.

if you are in for the speed, you are much better off with an external enclosure and esata.

if you just want a hackable box to setup and forget in a corner (eg. mail gateway or ftp dump box), then probably one of these could do.
