  • Rep, what color is it? warm white or cool white?

    • Halogens only come in the one colour. You would need to go for CFL or LED globes in order to select a varying colour temperature. That said, halogen globes are definitely on the warm white side of the scale.

    • Although halogens only come in one white 'colour', it is probably most like warm white for LEDs of CCFLs. Personally, it's my preferred indoor light 'colour'.

Although these use less power than 50w halogens, are they the newer technology ones (e.g. IRC) which ouput the same light as 50w globes? or are they just lower wattage that just output less light? I'm guessing the latter.

These are not IRC. IRC globes will cost you $3-$4 per unit at wholesale rates. they are certainly a better globe. The globes we have on special today are a cost effective way to reduce your power bill quickly, without the need for an electrician, until you decide to switch over to LED technology as the price point drops on those lines.

  • I'd rather a Bargain for LED MR16 (Brightgreen, Philips, Naichi, etc), but anyway.

If these aren't IRC (Aluminium reflector), there are possibly better deals on ebay if you can wait for UK postage, and the option to buy 40/20.etc. and 20W units also.

Buying from overseas merchants on eBay is certainly an option, however for items at this price point, the small benefit of a slightly cheaper price is far outweighed by all the negatives that come with transacting from such merchants.

  • What is the illumination angle for these globes?
for me, 60 deg is too narrow to retrofit into my existing lights

    • The beam angle is 60 degrees.

  • What do you mean by "Just twist off the existing 50W and attach the new 35W globes", aren't MR16 just two prongs pressed into a socket? What do you twist?

Also, do you have any lower watt ones? I have 10 MR16's that I'd get some spares for, but I run 12W & 20W globes.
    Thanks

    • Do they make 12 Watters? Plenty of 20's on ebay.

    • I think the rep just means replace without tools, as yes, MR16 is push spikes.

      • I meant twisting the face of the downright to then gain access to the globe in order to unpin it. The glove itself simple has 2 pin like prongs which just plug in and out of the lamp holder.

It's a good price for the globes, but I suspect that the drop in brightness would be too much of a sacrifice for me. I've tried the IRC jobs, and they are good but still not the same. I have a new house filled (I've counted 80!) with the rotten things, sucking up power. What I'm planning is to identify those lights that are used the most, and swap those for LED jobs…. ideally 240V GU10 (ie no separate transformer/driver required).

    • That's a fairly solid plan. We will be putting up LED like the ones you describe on sale next week. Also feel free to call one of our lighting consults on 1300 934 640 if you have any questions about how best to make the transition.

  • How are these different to the Arlec $10 10-pack at Bunnings, which I seem to recall are the same wattage?
