I reckon it's a good deal, may even be better than the Dick Smith's Sony NEX-F3 deal. What do you guys think?

Definitely a better choice than the Sony Nex series. Panasonic and Olympus are both compatible with each other's lenses and you have a wide range of good quality lenses. Because the Sony uses the the APS-C size sensor, the low light performance may be better than the Panasonic's.

    DMC-G3 is a great camera.
With the store credit, this is the cheapest I've seen. I'd pounce if I didn't already have one :)

    • Is the kit lens good? I know little about photography and don't really want to spend much money on lenses. Will the kit lens good enough for travel and casual use?

The 14-42 kit lens is definitely a fine all-rounder.

  • I reckon you'd be mad to get this when the G5 is going from a lot of different places in the 400s - it's everything this is, plus a lot more (definitely worth the extra hungee, imho).

ttkc, the kit lens will be absolutely fine for what you are talking about. :)

    • G5 in the 4 hundreds…where?
Cheapest I've seen it is around $540 delivered on B&H (when it's been discounted to $500 USD). Right now selling for a lot more than that. The G3 at current prices is a steal.

          I just checked Adorama.com
$559.40 USD delivered to Australia using the cheapest option. Quite a premium.

I couldn't get an easy quote with Samy's Camera. There was no listing on their ebay store for the G5 and no easy way to choose Australia on their website to see delivery costs.

Some ebay vendors get under $500 delivered, which is still at minimum $120 or so premium over the G3 delivered (when taking into account the credit). I'd still rather buy the G3, to be honest. But it depends on how much value you place in the G5 (and how much you trust these vendors, especially in the event of a problem).

There are some nice changes in the G5 (many of which were seen in the G2 and G1, like the re-introduction of the eye sensor and better grip). But focusing has improved (it wasn't bad to begin with on the G3), the back lcd resolution has improved (EVF is the same). Pic quality differences are really minimal, from what I have seen. Some steps backward like the circle rocker instead of buttons, in my opinion. But that can be subjective.
