Nokia N8 Grey $80 Delivered @ JB

682

Old phone compared to todays phones but it is still one of the best Camera Phones on the market and has free lifetime GPS/Maps.

Would be a good travelling phone as you can use it in most countries and the camera and GPS would come in handy.

Since it is sold from JB HIFI as Australian Stock will come with 2 years Nokia Warranty!

$80 delivered is a bargain for this phone.

  • I'm taking it you guys who got cancelled ordered this morning? LOL, why the frack did they open it up again after it was already sold out 30 mins after the op. Silly JB

    • There are more apt adjectives than "silly".

cant believe we all got so excited over a phone with 680mhz single core cpu and 256 mb of ram

  • +3

I guess that's because it has
    1) worldwild offline turn-by-turn navigation
    2) 1/1.8" camera sensor, Carl Zeiss lens, Xenon flash
    3) HDMI output
    4) USB OTG
    5) Panta band 3G
    6) SIP client VoIP
    7) FM transmitter
    ….
None of existing phones on the market have all these features in a single unit.

Some people do not need them but some do like them. Also you can resell it for 100% profit. :P

    • 8) SkyDrive Support
      9) FM Radio
      10) Direct USB data transfer

    • +1

      1) There is software (incl free software) that can do this on other phones. Even cheapie cheap Nokias (such as e72) can do this.
      2) True
      3) True, but expect it to be a pain in the *rse with file formats. Specs say 720p H.264 but only at 30 fps. You cant expect a lot with a CPU this slow
      4) True, but meh
      5) Maybe a good thing if you travel a lot, otherwise, meh
      6) again, software can do this, you can expect that 1200 mah to drain faster than a bottle of vodka in a nunnery if you leave that client running
      7) true, would be handy in the car with a car charger

Classic Nokia really. Plenty of hardware innovations, coupled with bog ordinary software.

"None of existing phones on the market" except the discontinued PureView808?
Soon after Nokia announced the death of 808, retailers in China increased its price by nearly $150, I was lucky to get 1 of the 7 remaining red units from Nokia's official Taobao store before the price hike.

  • JBHifi already debited my account and took payment for the other factory scoop deal and now they are cancelling delivery. They clearly state that they no payment will be processed until delivery is to be made but they took my money and is now not delivering.

    • my bank account is debited too, no cancel email yet, when did you place the order?

    • Gerry Harvey taught them well.
      They got my money too!

    • Yeah, they took my money too… better get it back before the end of this week.

      • no, not yet. Tues 23 April

Symbian Belle Refresh is not bad on the N8, looks similar to older Android and is more stable.

Only thing missing is new APPS otherwise still a great phone.

  • Someone offered to swap me one of these with my Lumia 800 currently on Gumtree. LOL

      Tell him he's dreaming.

I have been reading about N8, this device is a like a gold mine with so many sweet surprises.

This phone even has RCA output via headphone jack allowing you to watch content on SD TVs.

It runs the symbian OS which is outdated. You won’t find many apps so I would not buy it.

    • +5

      not everyone cares about apps…

my current phone (Nokia 808 PureView) also runs symbian. for me, the quality of the camera (41MP 1/1.2" sensor) and xenon flash FAR outweighs the lack of apps.

the same applies for the N8, which also is a very good camera with xenon flash. it was my previous phone, and I would still be using it if i didn't have the 808.

      • Yeah I do not care about APPS.

The phones does everything I need it to do and I am happy.

        • same , the phone is a gold mine if you weigh its functionality against the price

  • Folks, for those who bought the N8 …. how its going so far?

I am super happy except for one little concern.

I upgraded to belle and found it to be awesome, but on the internet I see numerous claims which states the Anna Camera pictures are better than pictures taken on Belle.

Since I upgraded straight away, I am not sure whether this is the case.

Have you folks upgraded to belle? What's your thoughts on belle photo quality?

Right now I am not sure what I am missing in belle, the pics are great compared to my BB….

    • Nothing wrong with Belle and photos.

Have you updated to Belle Refresh?

      • Yes did, I did updated Belle Refresh. I am happy with the photos….

But the claim is that Anna photos and even better in quality…. Belle around 80% and Anna being 100% (especially in low light)

I am at 111.040.1511, assume that is the latest version?

    • On my previous N8 I did not notice much difference between Anna and Belle in terms of photo quality
There are camera mods you could try to see if they make any difference.
I have flashed mine with a custom firmware that includes camera-mods http://theonecfw.blogspot.com.au/ as I need non-english language support .

      • Thanks for the info!

Does flashing a phone void Nokia warranty?

        • I assume so.
But it can be flashed back to stock firmware - I haven't done that though.
