  • vs m50 vs Phillips downtowns. How does it compare?

  • m50 over both

  • Uptown's over M50's IMO

    • You too?

I recabled mine to bypass the crappy inline remote. Great set of cans

  • i have downtown, it is not that great(worse than my phantom m400, in short). but i paid over $120 for m400.

imo, if you can afford m50, go for m50. if you dont like the "bulky" m50, get downtown.

    • made a mistake about the name. i own uptown, not the downtown.

    • You mean Phiaton MS400's?

I'd hope so, they're double what I paid for my Uptowns…

      The MS400's get good reviews.

I don't pay retail, I'm a bargain hunter, RRP's are only reference points for % off if like me you come here too often.

  • Uptown's have a more realistic sound to them. They are much more comfortable than any other set of cans you will try, regardless of price. Do some research, the uptowns win every time for me. M50's are boring and unrealistic cans.

Got this from Officeworks around $50 few months back…

    • wow they are 149.95 on special offer from OW at the moment.
How did you get them for 50?

        I sense a different model…

  • I have these, nothing special.

M50's are a known good set of cans for about $100-150. Not comfortable to many, need different pads. I can't comment on the sound, don't own (auditioned).

I rate the uptowns and Creative Aurvana Live for similar money (assuming both can be had around the $60 mark).

  • i tried uptown and feel the volume is bit low compare with others when listening to my iphone? maybe need amp?

  • You're not the first to say that. I don't have this issue, I think the inline volume control is the weakest point and the reason I don't openly recommend these to most people. If you have the time / talent to recable, they're gold (for the $60 I paid)

    • I don't understand what the big fuss is about the volume control on the uptowns. Why not just turn them up max and then just ignore it? Why recable?
