Many Disney Games Now FREE (Android)

1300

Many Disney Android games are now free (down from $0.99). I guess what this REALLY means is that people weren't buying them anymore so Disney chucked some more ads and other monetisation strategies into them and made them free (sucks for the people who've paid for them previously!). This is what Rovio did with Angry Birds recently.

Games include:

  • Wreck it Ralph
  • Temple Run: Brave
  • Where's My Perry?
  • Where's My Water?
  • Puffle Launch
  • It's a Small World

That movie was awesome! Loved the cameos by the other games.

  • (sucks for the people who've paid for them previously!).

Well they got to play it earlier.

    • +7

It also means they have to deal with monetisation that they didn't bargain for when they bought them.

Nice find! Always good to have a few Disney games to pass time :-)

    • Good for them daily train trips :)

Awesome, wanted to try Wreck It Ralph! Thanks for posting OP :D

    • You're welcome

  • Fantastic!! Downloaded quite a few things! :) 'toy story smash it' still appears to be $0.99 though

    • +7

Thus the title 'Many Disney Games' as opposed to 'All Disney Games'.

  • Great!!! Temple Run: Oz!!!

    • Still 0.99

  • Any of them decent?

    • Dude, they're free games! Try 'em out and uninstall them if you don't like them.

The internet is full of free games, I don't have time or desire to try them all.

        • Time to get on here and ask others to do it for you though?

Spoilt for choice = First world problem? :)

Yes, the power of the internet. Learn to use the tools available to you. Work smarter, not harder …

where's my water and perry are REALLY GOOD. The start is easy (it's designed for kids), but then it soon gets more difficult.

      • -2

Yeah, I got the Water one. Had seen that one on the popular lists in the past.

  • Once something goes free on play, it is always free, so these prices should never go up again. Great!

    • since when?

      • Since always

        • +1

Pretty sure you were just proven wrong since they have all gone back to their normal prices

        • He's not proven wrong. It has always been like that (common knowledge). Google may be allowing it now but I doubt it. I'd call this a special case for now.

    • Its up to the developer if they wish to change the price

      • I'm pretty sure once an app is marked as free on google play it is irreversible. I remember someone throwing out a link about it when there was a bit of a debacle over dead trigger going free a week after release.

Hence why we only see ridiculously good (eg $25c etc) sales now and then, unlike the iOS folk who can get the daily freebies offered by devs etc (and why we usually get slugged with the ads version).

        EDIT:
Looks like regardless Disney has gone free, and back up again.

Appsales app is verifying this promo as expired + all apps are .99C on play. I wonder whether the free forever thing has all-ways been a big load, or if it has recently been changed on google's end to allow changing of free-paid at will.

        • +2

          It's true.

          Source: I'm an Android developer.

I think Google has done Disney some favours if they were able to make the apps paid again.

        • I think that they must have changed this recently. We have started to see quite a few freebie deals on the google store.

        • But those deals haven't involved free Apps becoming paid. They always use another mechanism.

  • Where's My Water has a really great vibe to it and it's just a genuinely fun, casual game. Highly recommended.

Where's My Perry is similar and rather fun, but it has micro transactions within it. Still worth playing.

Terrible deal. Had them all and now I am pissed as I hate ads. I feel robbed honestly.

  • Think the deal is expired, they are showing as AU$0.99 (or installed for the ones i have already brought)…

Note: I have heard that if an app is free once it is free always in play store. so wondering if it is only me ?!

    • Note: I have heard that if an app is free once it is free always in play store. so wondering if it is only me ?!

True, but devs are allowed to remove it from the play store and submit it again to make it a paid app again.

      • The play store is a nightmare to navigate as it is to discover new aps. Removing it from the market and in-turn removing all download and rating history would be completely counter-productive for the dev. It would render their entire promo of making it free moot, as they would be removed from the top free or top paid ladder.

Not showing as free for me, I vote for expired

^^ Yeah looks to be over.

For those who are that worried about ads, you could try adfree. It's a bit hit and miss since Jelly Bean since google has attempted to circumvent adblockers (eg most of my apps don't have the ads or they are blank, but angry birds for still has ads. All adblockers have been removed from the play store, so you will require sourcing the .apk yourself. It is available from the SlideMe marketplace for those more comfortable with a reputable market to source it from http://slideme.org/sam.

    adfree will require root access

SlideMe will require 3rd party apps to be allowed under settings>security

    • If you like a game enough to play it then why would you deprive the developer of their only income source?

      • I agree it wouldn't be very ethical to use it as a deliberate means to avoid paying for an ad-free version. If they offered a paid version I'd buy it, and do. I chose to do what I will with my own phone, much as the devs distribute their aps through their own choice.

Though I am referring primarily to those who have purchased the ad free version then had it change to free with ads. I don't see how any dev could defend that as a fair move to play. Angry birds was just a testing apparatus (chances are it's one of the more sophisticated in ad-block circumvention); I hate the game.

        • Yep with you on that one, only happened to me once when an app went from paid no ads to free with ads but is p!ssed me off…

      • Most of those games are 99 cents each. I actually bought most of them. The ones I haven't bought are the ones I don't really need/want. It is easier to buy them than do those ad free hacks.

  • Many of them are still showing as free for me…

    • First time I see Android apps/games able to switch from free back to paid. In a way, it is good to know that it is possible. Previously, once an app/game is free, it had to remain free (I guess to be fair to new Android users). However, most companies are only willing to make their apps free for a limited number of days. It led to special version of apps being introduced.

Given Amazon Appstore has Free App of the Day, it is good that Google finally allow an equivalent setup.

  • Where's My Water is the best mobile game ever made. It's worth the buck.
