    just an fyi

the microserver 250gb drives will not boot an o/s

its a documented issue, probably deliberate

    • +1

That seems strange. The only drives I've heard of that have trouble booting are huge ones over 2TB. What is your source for this information?

      • whirlpool, ocau

and i have three of them myself

they dont boot because HP deliberately made it like that so they cant be easily reused

there's a way around it of course but if you know how, you know about this issue anyway

        • So let me get this straight tony, you're saying that HP coerced Seagate into crippling the drives on their behalf so that they couldn't be repurposed outside of the N40L???

You'll have to forgive me if I find this conspiratorial notion somewhat implausible…especially given that many of us have direct experience to the contrary.

        • -5

if you dont know what you're talking about, please do not comment

they are HPs own drives with their own firmware

you do know computer companies can get their own firmware for their drives?

i can post a Smart ID if you want but that would probably be above most peoples' heads here

        • +2

if you dont know what you're talking about, please do not comment

I was actually thinking the same of you mate, but I had the common courtesy not to enunciate it…

i can post a Smart ID if you want but that would probably be above most peoples' heads here

Post away Einstein, we may not possess your stellar intellect, but we'll try to muddle through…how about a couple of those 'documented' links whilst you're at it? :p

        • AND the way around it is….
          a breathtaking hdd format?
          Gosh it was hard!

        • +1

I gave u a + bcoz your way more smarterer then I am

    • +3

Strange. My 250gb drive has no trouble booting Linux in the box I put it in…I'm calling shenanigans on that story!

      • +1

Yeah, I boot 2008 R2 off mine and it works fine…

      • +1

        Ubuntu server 12.04 for mine

        Win8 pro for mine.

        • +1

          Win 7 Pro on Mine

    • My n40l has no problem booting server 2012 on the 250GB drive

it does not seem to be a big bargain…
random check on the 3TB one

    http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Barracuda-3-5-Inch-Internal-ST…

Actually there was a 4TB on sale for ~$130 not long ago

    • -1

For the 3TB Drive, this is what i found -

order total from megabuy to NSW when buy 2: $269.95

order from Shopping Express to NSW when buy 261.75 (after applying discount)

Because they charge shipping for each drive, we charge shipping according to weight and we believe our shipping rate is one of the most reasonable Australia Wide.

As for 4TB on sale - you refering to external drive? You will need to consider void warranty vs 2 years warranty

      • +1

he probably just saying what you have up there…is not a bargain!
more like getting rid of old stocks at reasonable price + shipping……

don't get me wrong, your pricing are reasonable, but not so a bargain yet!
advertise at a normal/reasonable price will not get much of our attention,
rather a negative view as it's more like "Another Advertisement" than Bargain
        (don't forget this is Oz"Bargain")

for OzBargainer, you have to try harder/make deal sweetener to get more business/positive ads! :-)

  • Out of curiosity, should the n54 microservers you are selling come with a 250gb internal drive? As I thought hp include the drive with their 2gb ram models?

    • As per our website listing and hp website listing, it does not come with 250Gb drives

      http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/au/en/sm/WF06b/15351-15351-42…

      • That's strange, when I click on the quickspec html in that link it states

Hard Drives 1x250GB NHP SATA 7200 rpm Drive.

It must be different model variations.

    • opps, misread as I thought you were asking for n40L

I think some come with 250GB hard drive, some did not(it's call "diskless version" or something)

the 250GB drive SE selling here is what their customer/s don't want
(the customer may have choose to upgrade to another hard drive & have this left over)

  • $10 shipping kills the deal.

Great price for a 250GB drive. So maybe it needs potection from a good Antivirus software like Trendmicro :)

So the final price will be $3.70 shipped for a 250G hard drive and a copy of Trendmicro software.

    Thanks, shoppingexpress!

    • how do you get $3.70 when the drive is $19.95 + shipping?

      • +1

what he meant was the Free promotion deal i post a few comments above. Summary of deal: Buy selected Samsung SSD together with (Trend Micro @ $55) and enjoy Free Shipping + $80 cash back from Trend Micro. Today is the last day, so is a good opportunity to take advantage of both deals.

    • $4.95 if you're in WA.

      • :) - ozbargain community catch on very fast. this is probably the favourite "combo deal" atm.

        • how does the cashback deal work. Do u need to post something out in the mail or something because I always have bad experiences with that kind of thing

        • +1

the cash back is via filling up details online at link below & they direct deposit to your nominated account once they have verified and approve your claim.

          https://apac-eticket.trendmicro.com/eastertimecashback/

it does not require physical mailing also the direct deposit makes it safer than mailing - a much better cash back than most IMHO.

  • ok cool. is there any other deals to get the free shipping. I dont need any hard drives or ssds but im in the market for a good wireless router

    • the most common combo is actually buying the trend micro software with the hard drive. Not Free shipping but the cash back alone is good enough for some. However, if you do have a router you are particularly looking at, let me know and i'll see if i can do something.

      • Hi REP,

I received TMS software today, however the "Packing Slip" dated 05/04/2013. I bought on 04/04/2013 which was the last date for claim $80. Also the "Packing Slip" can be used as Tax Invoice?

        • The invoice that is printable/downloadable from your registered shoppingexpress account is the one you should be using.

  • I want to buy the 250gb $19.95 and 1tb $59.90 with $5 off bonus comes to $64.85 but after I add them both to cart they they are $108.90 together. Applying the SEAGATE code only takes $34.05 off and brings it down to $74.85 not down to $64.85 as mentioned in the OP

    • Hmm..$19.95 + $59.9 - $5 = $74.85?

  • I was just testing out the theory that 'the customer is always right'. I knew that theory could be disproved easily..
