It's not much but 'WELCOME5' will get you another $5 off.

    • +12

      Quite the professional, T_double_U.

      • +1

I will take that as complement thanks :)

  • would this be the cheapest Xperia Z at the moment?

  • +1

But this is its normal price…?

    • +3

      Probably just a pricing error.

      • +6

Would be one of the cheapest local stock. Although, I don't feel as if its a pricing error. Its just not amazing enough to be considered a bargain.

    • +7

This is normal. The Telstra model is on sale for $624 outright and unlocked today

    • +7

Yes this is the normal price. HN, JB and Telstra themselves are all selling at this price. I'm negging just so people will realise this. Its exceptional local bang for buck, but its not a bargain, it can only go down from here. Just sayin.

  • A very good phone. Just not sure the quality, I saw a dead one display in Vodafone shop, the staff said just arrived 2 days!

  • Definitely cheapest local. MobiCity is $709.

    • That is for Black only, White is $729, Purple is $799.

      • Yeah should of stated that. xD

      • Yes, Purple is the fastest version…

        • i thought purple was the colour of wealth, in the old days if you wear something purple, you must be rich or wealthy

        • Snails, sea snails.

        • Wasn't that just related to how hard it was to get purple dye back then? Rare stuff is always expensive :P

        • Yes, as per my post, it came from crushing sea snails.
Julius Caesar created an uproar when he dressed in all purple. Usually you only had a small part in purple because if its crazy expense.

Telstra will be the same price for outright purchase too.

"Consumer customers can purchase the Sony Xperia Z outright from Telstra for only $624"

So not looking like a bargain, but pretty much the standard go price.

    • +3

      With Telstra bloatware. No thanks!

  • +2

not bad of a price - it has some pretty good reviews. The waterproof and dustproof feature of the phone is definitely a bonus!

    • Although I've read that the screen wasn't quite up to snuff compared to other flagship phones, you really can't complain at this price

      • +1

"you really can't complain at that price"
I'm pretty sure if I pay more than $600 I can complain.

      • there are 2 types of screens used on Z,Sharp and from another supplier…just be sure you get the Sharp one

        • how can you tell which model carried the Sharp screen….?

        • if you buy the official one, just google which model is officially supplied to your country…with grey import it may be an issue…

  • JB hifi also selling for same price, just ask in store

    • +4

Acutally for around $610 after haggling according to posts on Whirlpool at JB.

  • Good price, but seeing it's the everyday price, and the deal is from HN, not worth a "+"

  • Quite a reasonable price. This is cheaper than the price the S3 was when it released.

But I would wait till it drops to around $550. Which it might do soon with One and S4 on the way.

  • +3

Pretty good price. It might just be the RRP with a couple of dollars knocked off.

Having said that, I'm not too fond of buying from Harvey Norman online anymore. I'm not usually the sort to complain but my last order with them they ended up having no stock and it was for an EOL item. They offered the choice of a similar product or a full refund. I chose a full refund. After waiting 5 business days (they say it takes 2-3) I emailed them to see why I hadn't received my refund. No response. I waited 12 business days after receiving the email advising me of my refund before I requested a chargeback. It's now been 15 business days and I still haven't been refunded.

In contrast, I had to get a refund from another company (after my refund email from HN). I got that refund the next business day.

Harvey Norman Online clearly have a flaw in their refund process.

    • +1

Have you ever tried Harris Technology? My prevous refund took 45 days to process through 3 after sales, 6 emails and 5 phone calls to complete.

    • Normally Amazon takes one day to process refund.

  • This is probably the SRP of this phone. $749 is a bit much to ask from Sony. This price seem more reasonable and i still expecting it to drop is a short time.

  • JB HiFi has been selling this phone for $624 [and below] since last Friday. It's Telstra branded but only one application, that can be disabled, and T when you turn it on.

But this is the 'everyday' non Sony price.

    • +3

if you get telstra stock, does that mean the firmware updates needs to be from telstra as well? I notice they are always so slow with updates

  • How does this compare to iphone 5 or galaxy s4?

  • Standard price available from Telstra stores.

  • The RRP for this phone is $749, so at this price for local stock it is a steal.

I have this phone, it is gorgeous and beautiful. The 1080p resolution screen is amazingly sharp and vibrant. Water feature is a very cool feature to have. You can take it swimming, to the beach and dunk it in water without having to worry about getting it damaged.

Definately the best phone out at the moment if not one of the best.

as others have said this is pretty much the base price (as set by telstra)

my case is pretty case specific, but I am getting mine for $527

step 1. buy from DSE (price is 624) using 5% off wish giftcards from entertainment book ($31.20 discount)

step 2. going overseas early next month, so claim the GST back via TRS for a 10% discount (invoice will be for $624, because giftcards are pre bought, giving me a $62 back)

bringing the total price down to about $527.

I have posted this several times on whirlpool, I hope it helps someone on here.

    • lol you dont get %10 back from TRS, you get 624-(624/11) which is only $56.7 off

      • you are correct..
I hadn't read the trs site right, I just assumed it was claiming the GST back.

still getting it for $537 though :)

        • You are claim GST back though, GTS is 10% of the product price so if something cost $1000 GST would be $100. So you pay $1100 including GST. When you claim TRS you get 1100/11 = $100 back. Not 10% of $1100

Any good deals on xperia zl? Id rather have a physical camera button and more compact body!

  • +1

had the HTC One X, it was a good phone … Sony Xperia Z is similar specs, but just a thing of beauty, best made phone in years … I haven't been this happy with a phone since the nokia N95 (actually, even before that) …

As for the price, i got it on a plan for the included data

  • Am I missing something here? I cannot see the Sony Xperia Z listed on the DSE or JB site?!

    • +1

They havn't updated their website but if you go to their stores you will be able to pick up one - unless sold out before then.

  • Went to 2 x DSE stores. Told two different stories. 1st said they had ordered them today but didnt know when they were coming in. Second told me they were only coming into the country tomorrow so I'll have to wait a while. Also was quoted $698 from each.

Went to JB and though they didnt have any on display, they did have them. $628 and locked to Telstra.

As I am with another carrier, does anyone know how much it is to unlock these with Telstra or otherwise. On their website (http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile-phones/prepaid-mobiles/serv…), Telstra specifically quotes 'You’ll need your debit or credit card' which gives me the shivers just reading it.

    • They're not locked, the salesperson doesn't know what they're talking about. Which is normal. They are Telstra branded, which is different to being locked. And you can always install the Sony ROM if you don't want Telstra branding.

Telstra don't lock postpaid phones (there was an exception with some iphones, but they were free to unlock).

The link you are reading from Telstra's website is for pre-paid phones. Disregard it.

  • This wouldn't work in the United states 4g right?

  • got mine from DSE today (arrived in stock today.

    $624, paid with wish cards.

it is a carrier free version (JB is selling telstra stock), so updates come straight from sony.

    • Good to know its Unbranded.
