    Still very expensive.
    This is 16GB+512GB
After national subsidies, it should be about RMB 4469 = AUD 960

    • +10

That's China version. Local version will always be more expensive with full google services. You can get it cheaper on AliExpress global version.

      • +1

I don't believe China version and international version is any different in hardware. It is a good phone.

        • Hardware same. The rom software might be different.

          • @longsighted: You can install the ROM you like, isnt it. It takes a bit effort. I didnt bother change the ROM, it is still good for me. I think the international ROM is just a bit neater than the Chinese ROM, not that significant.

      • +1

does global version work here with the 3g bs?

    • +8

Why should a phone that's better than what Apple, Samsung and Google put out be dramatically cheaper than it already is? It's a great price.

And there are no "national subsidies" for phones in Australia.

      • +2

What's actually better about it? Genuinely curious.

Specs wise they seem pretty much same-same:

        https://m.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=13753&idPhone2=…

        • +1

They're very similar specs, but even then you're paying a lot more for an S25U

          • -1

@Kaise: 512gb S25U was around $1400 plus free $200 accessory when it was launched.

            • +1

@krisspy: that was not price of the s25u, that was aloophole around the full price.

        • +2

            @ab c: I've got a 6000mah silicon carbon battery phone. I'm getting 1.5 to 2 day battery life.

            • -2

@Caped Baldy: Most likely due to 6000mAh HIGHER battery-capacity, you're LOW-end user etc.

SILICONE-anode in li-ion batteries…maybe? IF the whole mobile phone industry move down this path in a few years time, this technology is proven via real-world experience & hence industry-wide take-up. Now it's a MERE-promise & marketing dept. is in OVER-drive selling NEW-features with PERCEIVE-advantages.

I'm sure the average-joe would have read & digest the science-journal link above…& similar on the net?

              • @ab c: It's a vivo X200 pro with the same dimensity 9400 and it's with 6hrs SOT.

Definitely an upgrade from my 4500mah oppo x3 pro which was dying before the end of day with 3hrs SOT.

                • @Caped Baldy: SOT: 3 vs 6 hrs…what do you think account for the 50% increase ?

                  • @ab c: Battery is 30% larger and the oppo is around 4 years old now. I think the chip might be more optimised for low power consumption and better power saving features.

                  • @ab c: My bad: 100% increase in SOT (6/3).

        • -1

Better cameras, better battery and much faster charging on the Oppo.

  • +8

Great phone. Changed from an S24U mostly for the better cameras, but also surprised how much snappier it is given that the S24U is no slouch. Battery life has been great, and it feels nicer to hold too.

OneUI 7 is probably a little more well organised with some better design choices, but ColorOS is really solid.

    • How is the call quality between the two? Are speaker calls louder on the S24U or X8 Pro?

      • +2

S24U seems to get a touch louder and it's a little clearer at max volume

        • Interesting .. thanks.

    • Have an S22u but use the spen so much its hard to move away. The upgraded cameras seem appealing though

That said, does this support esim ? Someone else mentioned it did not ? When I travel I keep my local # on the esim and get a local SIM

      • If you buy the China model esim doesn't work, but local stock (like this JB deal) esim works fine - I'm using it currently.

I love the spen in theory, and every time I do use it I think "wow that's cool" - but I just never really need it personally

        • If you buy the China model esim doesn't work, but local stock (like this JB deal) esim works fine - I'm using it currently.

Thanks for that confirmation, esim is a must have feature.

    • +2

You're blaming Oppo because Australians won't give them a chance and also not giving them a chance yourself as a result?

        • +6

as an opposite to the local produce?

        • -1

I'm just replying to dumb comments with incredulity.

    • +2

Also making the X8 Pro available at JB HiFi only

If JB-Hifi is willing to sell a phone, rest assure that it'll comply with all 3 carriers' network requirements…at least for now & until carriers tweak their network again?

NON AU-compliance phones: learn anything from the 3G shutdown ?

Oppo no longer cares about our market

AU is a small market with specific network requirements (frequencies & trade-secret?). Both hardware & software must be designed to work with all 3 AU-carriers. Likely a SEPARATE / DIFFERENT design & production runs for AU-market. Maybe if ALL 3 carriers design their network to be consistent with US/Europe/Asian models…the cost unit would be lower?

  • +5

X8 pro is great product wise but its price should be $1499 when it was released initially. Users interested in Oppo would not buy if Samsung has huge discount for preordering.

RRP $1799 should be RIP. This is way too closed to Apple as well.

      • +10

But you're ok with Apple and Samsung doing it at 100x scale?

      • +1

Have you looked at Apple's pricing in the US and Samsung in Korea, compared to their global pricing? Sure they dont gain huge profit outside of home countries eh?

    • +1

Even if you have the money, you would still not buy it coz you rate the phone or the brand really low hence the complain in pricing. Just admit that you are poor, nothing wrong with that.
Oppo Vivo Honor Huawei are better built than Samsung or Pixel, debatable against apple.
Software wise, its up to you how particular you are, coz my Honor and Oppo are smooth.

  • Been rocking the Oppo Reno 10x zoom for nearly 6 years now and still going strong. While in no hurry to upgrade, I'm asking myself the N5 fold for more productivity or the x8 ultra for the best cameras…

  • +2

$1499 is around RMB 6999, with this price you can get x8 ultra (16G +512G) Chinese version, I know it's differnet ROM, but it still has google store , android auto and it upgrade more frequently then international ROM.

    • +1

X8 ultra isn't a global release, china only, because of this it is missing some important Australian LTE bands - well 28b, without this band the phone is practically useless in australia

      • Hi, can you please elaborate more? I checked that x8 ultra has band 28A. I pre-ordered the Chinese version x8 ultra, so it can't make phone calls in Australia? Thanks in advance 🙏

        • +2

oh no youve already ordered it? If only a preorder id be cancelling it asap. Yeah it has 28a but you also need 28b.
"In Australia, Band 28B (700 MHz) is a widely used 4G LTE band, especially for wider coverage and indoor penetration. It operates within the 700 MHz spectrum"
Yeah your wouldn't get service in a lot of places unfortunately with that phone.

          • @garvani: Yeah I bought one for my wife just because of the exceptional camera of this x8 ultra…
If I just stay in the CBD/Brisbane metro area, would it be able to at least receive and make phone calls? Thanks!

            • +1

@Kongtc: should be ok if you use Telstra network.

        • You can still use it, some of the 5g and all the 4g frequencies are still working.
I remember using a chinese version phone that didnt have 4g band 28, it was a pain. I am not sure how important is band 28b, since majority of usage is 4g anyway in my area. 5g speed is awesome tho.

          • +4

@Mark365: Not anymore, things were different prior to 3g shutdown. The new volte requirement you need b28a and b28b. Without both volte doesnt work, which means no E000, which means uncompatible on network. I thought like you it just wouldn't work in remote areas, but it's far worse than that now. There is one working solution, Vodafone doesn't use 700mhz, but there network is pretty crap

    • WearOS isn't compatible with Chinese ROM. Esim doesn't work. No proper Gemini integration. I've also read of delays in notifications, and only showing a few (3?) notifications in the status bar.

Probably not deal breakers for some, but the WearOS thing in particular stopped me.

  • Anyone with this how is the camera practically? Long time oppo user and love their phones.

Wife is after me for a high end camera with good zoom.

    • Buy the x8 ultra. It is the best phone that can exist as of this moment across all smartphones.

      • +6

do NOT buy the ultra. X8 ultra isn't a global release, china only, because of this it is missing some important Australian LTE bands - well 28b, without this band the phone is practically useless in australia

        • +1

Yes I raised this in another site and got down votes en masse.

Just because you can buy it doesn't mean it will be compatible in Australia.

People need to do research and not just blindly buy things.

The full band 28 overlaps with other uses in Japan, Europe and the UAE.

In Japan, the lower end of the uplink band of B28 interferes with TV Broadcast.
So in Japan, only the B28 higher end duplex (B28B) is used.

In Europe and the UAE, the B20 downlink frequency is 791 – 821 MHz, which partially overlaps with the upper end of B28 So Europe and the UAE only use the lower end of B28 duplex (B28A).

A B28 device would work in Japan, Europe and the UAE, but can interfere with B20 and TV.
B28A and B28B devices have filters over portions of the band to prevent interference.

This means a B28A or B28B device can't see the full band so won't be able to access all three B28 telcos in all parts of Australia. You might get no B28 in the location you are in with the carrier you are on.

        • You cant say useless. Thats a stupid take.

          • +1

@Mark365: I mean it is pretty useless not being able to take a call or have data but sure. However vodafone doesn't use 700mhz so if your fine with that carrier you could be ok, bit of a gamble to find out tho

            • @garvani: You are probably right. Dnt know about not able to make call or use data tho

    • +1

Check out Reddit. Don't people are saying it's just short of flagship, others saying they don't know how to take photos.. there are some great examples there nonetheless

    • So far it's better than my S24U in 90% of shots. The other 10% the S24U is just as good.

X8 has more detail, better colours, better highlight control. The S24U is a grainy mess comparatively in poor lighting - and finally no more motion blur!

  • +5

Been on Oppo x2 pro for over four years, best phone I had and no issues at all. not looking to upgrade until at least for another 1-2 years 👍

    • +4

Same here, still on x2 pro.

The only issue I have is it can't register fast charging any more and goes a bit slower.

It also only cost me $50 to replace the battery at their official Melbourne service centre in CBD.

    • +1

I am on the S24+ now after selling my Find X5 Pro, and before these two, I was using the Find X2 Prom I have to say it's probably the best Android phone I've ever owned. I decided to keep it with me as my 2nd phone or for the kids to play. AMAZING phone.

    • +2

Same. On X2 pro for ,4 years. Finally im upgrading

      • +1

It holds up even till today…gaming performance is like a Pixel 8 Pro lol

    • Find X2 Pro is an absolute beast of a thing for its time. Mine still goes strong and I see no reason to upgrade currently other than the decreased battery life due to age, but the SuperVOOC charging sort of negates that anyway. This X8 Pro looks incredible but as you say, I think the X2 Pro will still serve me well for a good couple years still.

  • -1

Advantage of the samsung/pixel series is how it has better ecosystem. I mean yeah, sony earbuds, some smartwatches work well, but pairing galaxy/pixel devices are that much smoother and adds extra capabilities.

Pixel updates are top notch and until oneui7, samsung has kept up not too bad.

I do wish fornmore competition in this space though, that always drive competition up.

    • -1

Oppo has a better watch (X2) and good buds and tablets.

  • +4

When Samsung was selling their flagship for about $1,000 when it first released, its hard to persuade people a $1,500 OPPO is a deal

    • +2

You mean the S25 Ultra was selling for 1k? when?

      • When Samsung was

    • +1

It was actually ~$1.3k, but you had to:

On paper they look similar, but a lot of reviews indicate oppo performs similiar or better in a lot of aspect. For example OPPO Find X8 Pro 5G one of the best smartphone camera available, ranking #4 in dxomark vs S25U #26

    • Don't look up the price of the top of the line Kia EV9 then ($143,000). Highest I could find for Hyundai was the Ionic 6 at $130,000.

      • +1

And the highest bmw and merc?

        Bmw x5 base model 140k

Top of range kia sportage 55k

    • Lol you need to have a closer look at the car market

    • +1

Go look up Genesis, Hyundai’s premium brand

      • +3

Yes and its priced lower than the equivalent bmw/merc. Infact its got better specs and cheaper…

    • +1

Look at the specs. If you can get it for me for 500. I will take it.

  • -2

L Plate sub par JB Deal. Seems legit

    • -2

And posting the entire JB ad text in the deal..

  • +2

Rocking my Find X5, best phone ive ever hadd!!!! The market need to realise value in non main stream brands honestly. Had a OnePlus before this, and was just as good!

Waiting for this ones price to drop a little more before I make a jump …

  • +3

Got my Find X2 pro from the $596 deal a few years ago, and I've struggled to find a phone that was a worthy upgrade until the Find X8 pro… but the price difference is insane, even with inflation and all that jazz.

    • Exactly. Had findx2 pro since 2021. But I pulled the trigger.

  • +1

    The X8 Ultra looks sweeeet.

I am seriously considering it because I miss Android so much (and I hate iOS).

    • +1

looks sweet but doesnt work in Australia. Don't do it! Its missing band 28b, you wont get cell service in a lot of places

      • Damn, that sucks. Thanks for the heads up

        • +2

yeah look at the xiaomi 15 ultra for a similar experience, that is global release so no issues here

          • @garvani: I always hated the extra crap Xiaomi put into the image though…

Also they never managed to do cameras as well, but maybe that's changed in the last few years.

My last 2 Xiaomi phones were solid builds and reliable but the clutter and camera made me look elsewhere.

Edit: well given they are actively advertising a camera handle add-on I'm going to guess they are doing better

If you can think outside the box of apple and and samsung, Oppo is a great phone.

God forbid if they release OnePlus in Australia, it would shit so much on apple and samsung.

But we have been so programmed to only buy apple and Samsung.

  • Highly recommend. It is a great phone, great product. Just escaped from the iPhone prison and found it to be a great substitute. It can reach 90% iPhone capability with 50% cheaper price. It is especially bang for the buck if you can get it cheap directly from China.

    • -1

90%? so u still think iphone is better?

      • +1

I think IOS system has some inherent advantage over Android, like better sync between different system apps. But Apple charges way too much for high storage and high specs of their model.

  • can you do the same thing like the iPhone 16 post cancel the plan etc hahaha

    • There is no plan with this deal

      • dam hehe

      • Would the latest one in the email, $1200 voucher on 99 plan work?

  • I wonder which new phones are being supported by LineageOS?

  • +2

Amazing device, got mine for about 1k via the 24m plan and cancel. Would suggest waiting for that deal to come up again.

Battery life is amazing. I'll bring it to work at 20% and be fairly confident it'll last. Get home and it'll full charge in 40mins. Understand the lower DPI panel absolutely helped with battery.

Absolute unit of a package, blitzes through 4bit LLMs.

    • Hi who did you get the plan through? cheers

    • Amazing device, got mine for about 1k via the 24m plan and cancel

That would have been a good deal to post!

  • An amazing phone, highly recommended

  • Can any onwers rate the speaker quality? 1 to 10, 10 being the best on par with iPhone 16 pro max?

  • -6

wait till xmas and it will be $699
