I have a Navman and a Tomtom.
GUI is a matter of preference. I prefer the Tomtom which is customisable, whereas Navman is basically what you see is what you get.
The maps are where Navman falls down. When I first got the Navman the map showed a roundabout near my home which had been replaced by traffic lights about 3 years before. In the past year there has been only 1 map update from Navman (July 2012). I have just downloaded their European map for overseas travel and it is March 2012!
By comparison, Tomtom has had 4 updates in this period.
