whacko? is that a reference to cloudstreet?

  • +2

Not bad, $5 given for signing out spam mails using my spam email account.

    • +2

$5 how so? It is $2.50 worth of points

      • less your time and effort redeeming and reading spam.

        • +1

Exactly. I don't see why people go nuts for rewards points. Also on petrol coupons…

I get it — people claim they'd be spending the money anyway, so why not get rewarded for it? And they pay off their credit card every month, so what is the problem?

It generally works out between 0.5% of the transaction. That is an insignificant discount and you could be better rewarded by shopping elsewhere (where it is cheaper).

Cool - thanks. Equivalent to $2.50 credit for Flybuys members (based on redeeming 2000 points for $10 credit).

    • That's if you get to 2000 points.

  • +5

They're already spamming my spam mail account due to Coles owning First Choice so might as well sign up. Wonder if I will get duplicate spams. Or my points will be denied. Or both. :(

Cheers for this OP - Easiest money I've ever made! $2.50 for 30 seconds work - not bad!

  • Is it worth having a flybuys card?

    • +3

I think it is, have had one for years and had a few weekends away from it. The key in my opinion is never to buy something just for points.

    • +1

15% off their already low home insurance. Worth it for me.

  • can i opt out later ?
EDIT: nvm that, im already in …

  • I doubt if it is required to use your real email id. They dont even want to verify your id.

    hmm.

  • 500 points is 500 points. not that i swipe my card often… but took them :)

    too bloody easy

trying to work out a way to use paywave on this offer..

    Another 500 points, thanks OP.

We don't go chasing the points, ie: we shop when we need food, rather than coinciding with their offers all the time, but in saying that we do manage to rack up some points. When it gets to 10,000 I get a $50 Bunnings card. We seem to get that many points annually, so I get a $50 Christmas card each year :)

Just don't be fooled by the points, the little freebie at the end of the rainbow could cost you a lot if you start shopping for the points. The numerous points offers being run at the moment does make it a bit more attractive but the above still applies.

used properly and wisely, flybuys can be quite beneficial. We have a very tight food budget, self imposed but if you get the right things and use the bonus points offers on shop-a-dockets and from the snail-mail spam, you can accumulate points quiet quickly. We get around 2000 every month and a half, from spending little but using lots of bonus offers on things we need.

    • I have never once gone looking for bonus points (their 100 bonus points for a certain brand item instead of a sale price for example). Since the change over to the new fly buys I've gone from getting a $20 gift card in a year to getting loads of extra points that my family can splurge a little.

Even better my wife likes the clothes at their Mix store so I get double value rewards ($20 for 2000 points) so we take that money from our clothes budget and get an extra $20 once every 6-8 weeks.

  • Will it work with my temporary fly-bys card?

    • I would say so.

  • Erm.. Shouldn't they already have my date of birth?

    • +1

It's a confirmation of DOB, legally they have to ask since they sell alcohol.

      • Cool, hopefully those points will arrive within the month.
I'm only a few points off the 2000 redemption point.

  • Nice, could do with 500 free point =) Thanks, O.P.

  • Nice!! +1 from me!

  • Doesn't anybody care that their habits are being tracked by simply using "loyalty cards"?

Why The New flybuys Is A Rip-Off | Lifehacker Australia

    http://www.lifehacker.com.au/2012/05/why-the-new-flybuys-is-…

The flybuys brochure notes that if you spend (in participating stores) $150 a week on groceries, $60 a week on fuel, $50 a month on alcohol, $150 a month in Target and Kmart, $300 a quarter on power and $30 a month on phone recharges, take out an insurance policy with Coles and pay for it all with a Coles Mastercard, you will earn 52,100 points. “That would give you $260 off your Coles grocery bill in a year!” the brochure proclaims. What it doesn’t tell you is that you will have spent $14,880 to get there. Your $260 represents a 1.7 per cent saving.

    • Your point and neg are completely irrelevant.

How much money are you spending to receive free points?

Perhaps think about simple logical deduction before voicing your opinion, genius.

  • i received my 500 points today

  • Got mine on 17th April…

    Thanks Chthonic.
