The all new Nike Free Run+ 3 is even better than its predecessor with many new performance developments - including: Adaptive Fit technology, improved materials on the upper for a skin-like fit, and a modified arch with trans-tarsal diagonal flex cuts for enhanced twisting, strengthening, and natural motion flexibility.

This Free Run+ 3 5.0 is ideal for male runners who are looking for a first step into natural motion running. It provides the strengthening and natural gait management benefits associated with barefoot training, along with the cushioning, traction, and underfoot protection of a traditional shoe.

  • Adaptive Fit technology consists of “fingers” of soft material that wrap the midfoot and arch. They move with the foot as you run to provide a truly glove-like fit. This reduces the spaces between the foot and the shoe for unparalleled comfort, and significantly reduces the potential for hot spots.
  • Nanoply overlays are used throughout the upper. It is a micro-layer of engineered composite material that is laser-perforated for a skin-like fit that moves with each stride. The larger perforations are strategically placed in areas that need more flexibility while the smaller perforations are in areas that demand more support.
  • The arch has been modified with trans-tarsal diagonal flex cuts for enhanced twisting, strengthening, and natural motion flexibility.
  • Hot-knife siping along the length and width of the shoe provides a more stable platform and increases flexibility.
  • In the Nike Free continuum, the lower the number in a shoe’s name, the closer it comes to barefoot running (on the continuum, 10.0 represents conventional footwear while zero represents the bare foot). Nike Free Run+ 3 is a 5.0 on the Nike Free continuum, making it a great entry level barefoot running shoe.
  • Ball-to-Heel offset= 8mm differential
  • Heel to forefoot drop: The lower the number, the closer to to ground you are and the more it stretches your Achilles tendon. This helps you run more naturally and barefoot-like.

Are these shoes OK for tall and heavy people?

    • +3

they are fine but if you run daily the sole wears off pretty fast. I change them every 5-6 months but i don't mind cause without them i would be heavier and…shorter :)

  • Any avid runners who switched from the usual suspects like NB, Asic, Brooks, etc. to Nikes Free? If so, I would love to hear your feedback. Are they great for running?

    • I have the adidas equivalents and I used to get shin splints, sore ankles etc. Switched to kayanos and oh man, best decision I made. Maybe I just need the extra support.

    • +1

Free runs are terrible for running.. they dont have the same springy feeling and support for your feet..

i would only wear them for gym use, classes and cross fit..

stick to real running shoes if you take your running and health seriously..

      • +5

I don't mean to be rude but seriously shut up. You clearly have zero idea what your talking about and aren't being helpful at all.

They aren't meant to be "springy", that's the point!! They are meant to be a bridge to barefoot style of running, where there is NO support.

Humans managed to run for thousands of years without "springy" shoes, this whole idea of bouncy shoes has actually caused us to run incorrectly.

I run 7ks 3 times a week, and was starting to have knee problems, switched to these about 6 months ago and have had zero problem since (after a few weeks slowly adjusting).

"take your running and health seriously"
I suggest you take your own advice and educate yourself.

        • I agree with the keyboard warrior, its hard to tip toe run, or maybe I'm doing it wrong

    • I was looking into these when I first was looking at minimalist shoes, but ended up with a pair of Brooks PureConnect 2 and Merrell Flux Glove Sports. The Brooks are a transitional shoe and a bit more forgiving with a reasonable amount of ankle support whilst the Merrells have almost no support and let your feet do what you want.

I ended up not getting the Nikes because they felt a bit spongey underfoot when I was trying them on.

      • +1

apparently when you want to transition to these types of shoes you are meant to gradually take them on. they apparently are more 'natural' and help develop different muscles but if you are running on hard surfaces id give them a miss

    • you won't find a more comfortable shoe to cruise around in but don't run in them you'll damage your legs.

  • Normal or express post? Or how long it will take to arrive in AU?

    • +1

I ordered some Kayano 19's last month and they came in about 8 days. Great company!! Highly Recommend…

    • +1

They send by normal registered post. Normally takes 1-2 weeks to arrive but sometimes there could be delays. They ship it with just a bag and not with an outer box. The box will at most times come slightly squash. Nothing wrong with it as the shoes should be fine. They are a good company and I trust them more than Wiggle after receiving a pair of Free Run+ from Wiggle where each side came from a different batch (most likely from different boxes as they probably took one side from each box as the other side probably had quality issues) as you can see from the manufactured date of each side of the shoe. The issue is that different batches sometimes are made differently. Fitting could be different and like my Free Run+ 2, one pair I have is more cushy while the other pair appears to be more firm.

  • are these good for general wear as well or just running??

    • +4

I think they are great for just wearing around, they are lightweight and comfy.
The only problem is the deep grooves in the tread around the heel pick up a lot of stones if you are walking on gravel

    • haha! first time I read this I saw 'are these good for funeral wear as well or just running' - wow. :)

    • very comfortable and lightweight for general wear

  • This offer is for standard post which is estimated between 7-14 working days - althugh we do have an express delivery available at an extra postage charge.

    • Hi startgina,

I ordered some Kayano 19s from startfitness.co.uk last month, but they still have not arrived in the mail (it's been over 14 working days. Who do I need to contact to have this resolved?

  • Does the MAR10 code work on any other products?

  • +2

Yes MAR10 works for all orders so fill your boots while it lasts and save 10% off your full order.

  • +1

As I understand, these shoes are for "natural motion running" (toe-first). If you run traditionally and land on your heels, you need shoes with better cushioning like Asics Gel.

    • +9

They're to encourage a midfoot strike, if you heel strike, you will get a higher chance of injury if you use these, that's the basic principal behind Minimus running shoes. Also if you have had knee surgery, these are not the shoes for you The only minimus shoe you can heel strike in are Brooks Pure Range; pureflow, pureconnect and purecadence(pronators model)
Asics gel is a bit overhyped, they're just silicon, made visible for marketing.
Should also look into other tech such as mizuno wave, brooks DNA gel (non-Newtonian fluid) and the newly announced Adidas Boost cushioning (only neutral/supinator for now, later models with arch support for pronators released later in the year).

You guys are sounding like Apple Fanboys with the Asics hype, it's really what it feels like on your feet and not what other people use. Yes Asics do make good products but you guys treat them with a 'take my money!' attitude :/

Source: I work at a store that sells shoes, due to possible company policy breaches, not disclosing their name.
For anyone who wants an excellent and comfortable running shoe, I highly recommend slipping on a pair of Adidas boost, even if it's the wrong shoe for you (pronators), you will feel the awesome cushioning called 'Boost'.

      • cwongtech:
I'm wondering if you may lend me your expertise :)
I wear orthotics because the podiatrist said I walk badly. Also, I used to get a sore arch and calf..
I wear some pretty worn out Under Armour sneakers for running at the moment, could you recommend me something for running which would suit orthotics?

        Thanks :)

        • +2

Since you use orthics there is no need to get a pronator shoe, get a shoe without arch support because your orthotics already provides it,

Your physio/podiatrist usually will give you a couple of their recommendations.

Adidas energy boost (highly recommended, although you can't buy cheaper online, just try one on since you'll be needing a shoe with no arch support. Also cushioning material is supposed to last 5000km vs the standard 700-1000km)
          Adidas adistar ride/Supernova glide
          Asics cumulus/nimbus
          Brooks glycerin/ghost
          Mizuno enigma/wave rider

Again I stress: try on shoes yourself because you're the one wearing them and not me. Just go into a shoe shop at a quiet time and in sure the sales guy won't be mad at you for trying shoes on.
While the Adidas boost is probably the only shoe you can't find online for cheap, personally I would purchase even without staff discount, the price you pay for it is worth it because of how comfortable it is and the durability of the new cushioning, and if you don't like it, you can return it within 28 days for a full refund, at least for rebel sport.

        • Thanks very much for your advice :)

        • I went in and tried on the Energy Boost today. They feel SO good!
I tried on many of the ones you suggested. Cumulus and supernova glide were pretty good too but you're right. Energy boost wins

        • I went in and tried on the Energy Boost today. They feel SO good!

Feels like a sock on your feet rather than a shoe doesn't it? :)

        • For anyone interested - the Adistar Boost (Stability version of Boost!) is available from the UK @$137 (+ delivery..?)
          http://www.wiggle.co.uk/adidas-adistar-boost-shoes/
Only the neutral version is available at the moment in Australia.

  • Great deal, been looking at getting a pair but $160 is too much i think $80 is a fair price. Thanks op

  • Great price….if only I didnt just get a pair via Eastbay…..(more expensive than this). I use them as a work show (I work in retail) and an everyday kick around. The Free Run 3+ is a lot lighter than the Free Waffle's that I replaced. So tempted to get another pair

  • how long is this deal going for?
i'd prefer to check sizes in a store this weekend before buying

  • I thought this was for 3 pairs lol

    • Me too…

just in case, how much roughly is the return cost do you have a Australian office to send it back to so we won't pay too much for shipping back?

wow thats really cheap, they retail for 160 and i got them on ebay for 120 now only 80, they have so many colours too

  • +2

All I want is a pair of these in black & white for Women.. still, good price, thanks OP

  • Is this the cheapest available price atm?

  • top deal i was going to buy these a few weeks back but they were too damn expensive!

    thanks

  • what is the difference between Nike Free +3, Nike Free 3.0 V4, Nike Free 4.0 V2. They're all the same price. Which is the latest model?

    • +6

The number 5.0, 4.0, 3.0 determines how close to barefoot it is. The lower the number the more closer it is to barefoot therefore having less support. The Nike Free +3 is a 5.0.

  • Can anyone confirm that the sizing of these shoes are consistent with regular nike/adidas/reebok sizing?

I've heard that you need to run 1/2 inch size less in these shoes?

  • I hope Nike releases more of the previous model the Free Run+ 2. I prefer the fit and feel of the older model. The Run+ 3 is more cushy but seems to hurt my feet more when I do classes which has a lot of lateral movement and is high impact. Will keep my Run+ 3 for walking and for classes where you tend to be more stationary.

  • waiting for Nike to start NikeID in Australia

  • Awesome, I need new joggers and wanted to try this out.

  • You're looking at about $85 for 3-5 day shipping and $79 for 7-14 day shipping at today's exchange rate. Be careful that your credit card doesn't do their own additions or exchange rate like mine did recently

  • Startgina. How long is this running for? Thanks

  • I'll just stick to my volleys thanks

  • If only they offered 'wide' option.

  • Could someone who owns these or a pair like them give me some information about Nike and the UK sizing?

My current runners (cheap ones which is why I'd like a pair of better ones like these) are size 8. I bought them in Australia so I assume that's an Australian 8 - no idea what that corresponds to in UK sizing.

    • Australian sizing is all over the place… best bet is to go into a shoe store and ask them to measure your foot for you. Even better, try some free runs on and see how they feel, remember the size (US and UK will both be on the Nike Free Runs) and say "hmm I'll have a think about it.. not sure about the colour".

      As easy as that.
Again, don't go during a busy period and the store person will most likely not mind you :)

      • Thanks for the help mate. I bit the bullet and bought size 8's in case the sale ended, so they should be fine. My Vans are size 8 - pretty much every shoe I own is size 8, and I bought the Vans from England (I'm British myself and I am definitely a size 8 over there). Was more wondering about Nike having weird sizing and stuff but it should be fine I guess.

        • I highly suggest you to go into a nike store/foot locker/rebel sport store and try it on first!
Usually you go half a size up than normal for nike frees!
Worst case scenario I guess is flog them on fleabay and recoup your costs if you can't manage to change your order.

        • Okay, called them and the nice guy on the phone says he can hold my order until I've tried some on. Phew!

Thanks a lot for the help. Sometimes I can't help but impulse buy when I see stuff this cheap!!

        • Thanks a lot for the help. Sometimes I can't help but impulse buy when I see stuff this cheap!!

No worries, just some info, it seems the "Australian" shoe size system is a hybrid of the US and UK system, with mens from the Mens US sizes and womens from the womens UK sizes, or it could be the other way round..

Just a little tip - for mens sizes, the US size is usually 1 (sometimes 1.5) size higher than the reported equivalent UK size, for the same shoe.
For women, the US size will be 2 (sometimes 2.5) higher than the reported equivalent UK size.
So if you see a cheap shoe on the clearance table somewhere.. that's the quick way of telling whether a shoe is for a guy or a chick, if the colour is a bit bland and hard to tell :)
Also Men's shoes are usually wider than the women's shoes, that's why with the larger ladies that require a wider width, if they don't care too much about the colour, some customers try on Mens shoes for comfort.

        • That's really interesting to know. Yeah I agree - the sizes are very strange over here. I never know what to get when buying internationally. I guess the best way really is to try them on as I intend to do tomorrow! The shop assistant is going to be pretty annoyed when I try on pairs of shoes and walk out with nothing! Might have to buy a pair of socks or something to keep them happy…

        • Just try not to go in when its rush hour/ extremely busy - and just say you have to "ask the wife/missus" for approval first. It sounds legit :D

        • +1

I actually went to try some on today in Athlete's Foot. She offered to do me one of those foot pressure plate test things and showed me it on the screen. On my left foot, it rolls outwards when I stand (I could see it on the monitor) - she said that since my feet roll then these Free Runs would be the worst thing I could possibly wear and would lead to injury. Tried on some Asics GT-1000 and the support was a lot better - walking around the store and jogging a bit I could tell the difference immediately. Felt a lot better. Think I am going to have to cancel my original order unfortunately - I'd rather not get a leg injury!

        • On my left foot, it rolls outwards when I stand (I could see it on the monitor) - she said that since my feet roll then these Free Runs would be the worst thing I could possibly wear and would lead to injury.

Anything is better than a Free Run if you need support, hence this shoe would not be for everyone.

That's strange that she would recommend a GT-1000 if you roll outwards.. because the arch support in that shoe is for people who roll inwards.

Pronation is rolling inwards which is what a GT-1000 is for, if you look at the shoe on the inside it will have a grey piece with Duomax on it (it actually might not be grey due to asics just making the colour the same, as seen with several kayanos), but definitely you will see the words Duomax.
          Picture here of a GT-1000 ->
          http://www.asics.com.au/getmedia/16d2c41c-17ca-41df-a39c-136…
This is pronation - rolling inwards: http://youtu.be/pODcT55_7zA?t=30s
Press your fingers into the grey area it and you will feel hardness of the Duomax, this is to stop you from rolling in.

This is what to underpronate/supinate looks like - rolling outwards -> http://youtu.be/UJQvW7JVqYY?t=25s
This is a picture of a Gel-Impression 5 - with no arch support, this would be the shoe for people who roll out/supinate
          http://www.asics.com.au/getmedia/5edd0bcb-942f-4c13-88ec-c68…
As you can see, there is no Duomax, the arch is soft throughout

          This is normal pronation: http://youtu.be/WSw-w3LtLUo?t=30s
A bit of a tricky one, usually I'd suggest shoes without arch support unless they feel they need/like it.

Think I am going to have to cancel my original order unfortunately - I'd rather not get a leg injury!

I'm sure startfitness would understand :)

        • So just out of interest, what did pronators/sunpinaters do before fancy shoes were designed?

        • Just increased chance of injury I guess, pronation itself doesn't cause injury, but the way the foot takes off in strange angles when you run can increase that possibility.
          Extreme pronation example here -
          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhP9v7kz00M

        • Sorry, not sure why I typed outwards. My foot rolls inwards, my left foot. Startfitness were able to cancel my order for me which is good!

  • This offer will be on until Monday, Tuesday in Australia.

    • So how many did you sell today? I bought one =D

    • Just saw the comments on size below, any chance you can change the size on my order? My order number is 542202, please change size from 8 to 8.5

anyone who wants to get this shoes get half a size bigger trust me, i went in store and tried it on, all my other shoes are 11, for this 11.5 was the perfect fit for me

    • +2

      +1
This is true, from experience you usually go half a size up because of the way the Nike Frees are made

  • note: keep in mind the one i tried on was US size 11.5 which is equivalent to 10.5 uk

    • I'm a size 11 normally US and was going to buy 10 UK, but now after reading that will probably buy 10.5. I think I'm just going to have to try these on in a store or something. Thanks for the advice.

  • It took me a while to realize they were not actually offering 3 random running shoes for free with Nike Free Run (Nike Free Run "PLUS" 3 running shoes!)Oh and free socks too, what a great deal would that be. Time for bed I guess.

for some reason, it looks like a fake site

  • Yeah that site looks completely dodgy and fake.

  • Think you guys might be right. Went thru the order process to see what it came to. Only able to use credit card thru company called payitrust?!

Anyone know whether this is legit or not.

Thanks for pointing this out. Can always trust ozbargainers for sniffing out a dodgy site

  • Just got some for $78.89. Thanks!

  • I think that these may run smaller by more than half a size (for some, at least). I asked to try some US 8's and US 8.5's today at Rebel. Since they didn't have any 8.5's, I went straight to 9 and it fit like a glove!

I wear a US 8 in practically every single other shoe - Vans, Zu, Timberland, Lacoste - the only exception is my Nike Air Pegasus+ 25, which is also a 9.

Basically, I'm just reiterating what others have said: that the best option really is to go into a store, before the sale ends, and try on a few pairs.

  • Free Runners r the best of the nike range for me personally

  • If you see this deal again, get on it. I went with the 3-5 day delivery and paid just under $95. Rebel sells them for $160. No issues with order and definitely got the free socks. I went half a size larger than I usually wear. Tried a whole size and there was too much room.

  • I want to get a pair of the different colour ones hopefully they will go on special soon

  • Already received mine today. Perfect fit!

  • Arrived today!

  • Has anyone in sydney with standard delivery got theirs yet?

    • got it last Thursday

      • What did the shipping say?
Did it even work on the Auspost site? It doesn't seem to work for me.

  • Did anyone by chance buy a US 9 or 9.5 want to swap for a US 10 (UK 9)

  • MAR10 still works, just ordered some. Only UK 6, 6.5, 7 and 10.5 left.
