I think the sole material is too soft on these shoes I assume it's designed for walking primarily off road, I've had mine for less than 2 months and I've already worn through the sole at the toe and not far off on the heel, that's predominantly walking on tarmac but only for maybe 200-300Km. I do drag my feet and they've worn in the same places as usual, but my trainers usually last significantly longer. I haven't looked into getting a refund yet, not sure if I'll get very far!

@geekboy - they do have a warranty form on their website - worth a shot filling that out and sending some photos!

I've usually got a couple of years out of my Keens with regular use - and haven't worn through the sole at the toe like that.

I've had my Keens for about 14 years now and used them for a 20k hike a couple of weeks ago. Maybe you have the wrong size or bad socks

    • I have found on my most recent pair that the bumps are not getting soaked up at all … when walking across a steel catwalk i feel the metal contours underfoot. Plus they squeak! Haven't had these probs on previous Keens or other shoes.

Bugger, I just pulled the trigger.
Generally, I find Keen to be one of the better brands out there.

i've been a long-time fan of Keen, though haven't bought any for ages:

      • still wear Newport H2, probably the original, and still one of the best, amphibious/water hiking shoes, though heavy (-duty)
      • unfortunately they no longer seem to make casual shoes, such as Richmond and Boston - replaced mine with Rockport
      • Targhee III/IV rivals Merrell Moab 2/3 for perhaps best light/day hiking shoes
