While that is true about Google maps being free and able to make areas available offline. AFAIK, the main difference is Google maps still requires internet connection for Google Navigation where as Sygic doesn't require internet connection for navigation.
The voice guided navigating requires an Internet connection in Google navigation so if you are desperate for offline voice guidance then something like this might help
xmas time they had buy 1 get 1 free. 30% off is not a deal :)
How is this better than other products (specifically Navigon and gMaps?)
See below… also take a look on youtube or even the sygic web site for sample demos.
Sygic is decent for the price, Tomtom is the best however.
TomTom has user friendly interface, but it has a small limit of Favourites, if I am not mistaken, it is about 48. I only know it after I bought it and used it for a year. Not sure if Sygic has similar hidden limitation.
….only 48?
If you are travelling that often to that many different places I doubt you would use a phone as your GPS.Within the city, I dont need any Favourityes. But a trip to Albany will use up 20 favourities. Then another trip up north will use up about 25. Favourities are used for less frequently used location where I might forget over time. 20+25 will hit the limit for TomTom. With the current technology, why there is a limit on favourities? Memory limitation? file size limitation? or poor planning or skill.
We have Sygic on our phones (android) and have no complaint with it.
We have tried a couple of others on our phones so we have something to compare to.
Do not compare this to map systems where you need to have an internet connection (Google maps etc) or have to download before you go… this system installs the entire map for the country you choose and operates just like a quality dedicated GPS for much less.
If your mobile phone has a quality gps receiver built in then this map system will do the job very well.Tomtom Australia is about $38 at the moment. I've tried both, and Tomtom is definitely much better.
Nowadays with data as at a few dollars per gb the price for a license ( +development) might exceed the connection (< 9GB*). And then it seems doubtful that live info / traffic could function regardless.
* $9/3GB Ipad starter card * $24/6GB koganm * $12-$24/5GB/45d WOWm.etc
These are standard prices. I've been watching sygic for a while now and they lie about the standard price.
Actual price for world maps, for example, is 62.99 (mostly) to 64.99 (sometimes) euro. The true discount is zilch to 2 euro.
…and, oh look! Back to 64.99.
Google Maps is free. And you can download maps offline.
