Where to backup ~5GB of photos?

Currently my DCIM folder is close to 5GB. I heard that alot of image sites down scale/compress images once you upload them.

What online backup should I be looking at? I want it to be free too, <10GB storage, front end to view images.

  • picasa web in your google/gmail account is a great start
    http://picasa.google.com.au/

    Simply download picasa
Login to it with a Gmail account
    connect your camera
ask pictures to be imported (create labels and dates)
Organise more dates, location labels/albums/tags if you wish
Upload any or all images to my Picasa Web

It is nice and organised and easy to upload either compressed or full size and share with famiiy and friends

Used to include 5GB free, may likely be more now
    If you require additional space
    25GB is $2.50 a month

In your DCIM folder on your camera? I hope not? Srsly why haven't you at least uploaded it to a computer and burnt a DVD or two yet before thinking of cloud storage? Flash memory dies, cameras get lost, etc.

  • box.com (free) might still be running their 50gb promotion. otherwise it is 5gb. you could create multiple accounts and "collaborate" which effectively creates one big virtual account.

redundancy is critical if you value your photos. as suggested previously, burn to dvd. i also store copies on old hdds & usb sticks that i happen to collect

  • Web Picasa / Google+ I feel is the best option. Technically provides unlimited storage but it resizes images to a smaller resolution after you hit the 5GB limit. Videos under 15 minutes count under the free storage quota too

If you have signed up for Google+

    Free storage limits

Photos up to 2048 x 2048 pixels and videos up to 15 minutes won't count towards your free storage.

If you haven't signed up for Google+

    Free storage limits

Photos up to 800 x 800 pixels and videos up to 15 minutes won't count towards your free storage

  • Skydrive is 15Gb isn't it?

    EDIT: 7Gb

The desktop app for Windows is just like Dropbox and the Windows Photo Viewer (or similar name) in Windows 7 and higher can sync directly to it.
