2GB Dedicated Photo & Video Cloud Storage for Free. 20GB for Nikon Owners

150

Sign up at http://www.nikonimagespace.com/ and get 2Gb storage for free. Download the software (Adobe… sigh…) to upload images into the cloud….. very slowly…. but hey it's free and - as far as I can tell - no expiration. If you have a Nikon camera, then download the tool here (http://nikonimglib.com/upgradeutility/) - for windows users just extract the application & associated files into a directory (no installer), then run the exe. Follow the instructions to add the camera to your 'image space'. You should now have 20Gb!

Keep in mind that this is for photos & video only…. so if you want to store other things then services like box etc may be better for you (although nothing to stop you from using more than one cloud service!) and the interface could perhaps do with some work… but again it's free and (as long as the T'c and C's are ok) might be another way of providing an offsite backup for those critical images.

Might as well use mega etc etc as you get more vercatility, better speeds and better interface, if your description is correct.

    • Does mega show thumbnails? I use to use box for high res pictures to share but they kept reducing the free size.

  • not really a deal but I can't say no to 20GB of photo/video storage

Not a deal, because it's free? ;-) I know…. There are other options out there like box and dropbox etc that are better… But yeah, can't complain about the price…. Wish I could link all my various free accounts together to make one contiguous cloud storage space…. The various restrictions on file size, types, directories etc would make it too hard to manage though…

      • I would love that too…not sure what I will put up there at the moment but I just mine up and unlocked the 20GB

Thanks PlasticSpaceman for your clear instructions.

Nikon have a long way to go with the UI. The website runs as a Flash application, and it's very slow, klunky and even a bit ugly. And there are Japanese characters in the source code which causes Chrome to suggest their translate feature :P . Once you create an album and "publish" it, you get a URL to share. You can't copy the URL to the clipboard, I had to retype it. And after opening the album to see how other people might see it, it's a bit basic and again a bit ugly. I haven't tried all the features, I've only played with it for 5 minutes. Hopefully Nikon put some effort into version 2, otherwise I can't see the point of having 20GB to store photos.
