Amazing price for a Tegra 3 Quad Core tablet

    Product page http://www.sony.com.au/product/sgpt121au

  • +1

Photo shows the older Tegra 2 Tablet S, but the title says 'Xperia Tablet' which is the newer Tegra3 version. So, which one is it?

EDIT: actually ignore me, the product code is the newer Tegra 3 version. Good deal

  • Who is this offer exclusive to? Is one supposed to show the email to be eligible?

    • +1

When I went in to the Melbourne Galleria shop they asked me if I'd seen it on the email, or on OzBargain; we I said I'd seen it on OZBargain, they still sold it to me at the offered price, but also asked if I'd like to sign up to their newsletter.

Although I'd printed out the offer, I didn't need to show it, or even mention it, to get the special price.

  • I m waiting for the xperia z tablet coming in the next few months

Thanks for the post, this tablet looks good except for a few things …

CNET: Sony scraps sales of Xperia tablet - By Charlie Osbourne | October 8, 2012
Defects have been found in the Xperia Tablet S, forcing Sony to stop sales just a month after launch.
    http://m.cnet.com.au/sony-scraps-sales-of-xperia-tablet-3393…

ENGADGET: Unfortunately, the S also misses the mark in everyday performance, doling out an uneven software experience that stumbles more than it pleases.
    http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/24/sony-xperia-tablet-s-revi…

    (AMAZON reviewer)
Now for the bad: The original review units that Sony displayed at trade shows featured a USB and HDMI port. They opted to instead remove these and install a proprietary Multiport (which is on the bottom and not the side as shown in the photos here on Amazon). This was a cold, calculated move on Sony's part to squeeze more money out of consumers by forcing them to spend at a minimum $50 for a USB host cable and HDMI cable. What makes it worse is that you can't use both at the same time. One port, one cable.

this sort of sony douchebaggery is killing any desire for this tablet

CNET: Sony scraps sales of Xperia tablet - By Charlie Osbourne | October 8, 2012
Defects have been found in the Xperia Tablet S, forcing Sony to stop sales just a month after launch.

sales were halted after gaps were discovered between the screen and case, making some of the tablets susceptible to water damage.

Customers who have already purchased one of the units are eligible for free maintenance and check-ups, and Sony will fix any problems with the devices.

Don't put it underwater, problem solved

    • I say good luck on their PS 4 too :p

      • +1

In the end most of us will CRACK and BUY it, hopefully In the reverse order ;)
        But yeah dirty tactics.

the universal remote option seems almost worth it alone

    • +1

That feature is brilliant. I have the S Tablet.

  • lol, on the right of the link = $368 TAB + CAMERA :D

    "Combination SPECIAL
    DSC-HX30 CAMERA FOR ONLY $99*"

*Offer available online or in Sony Centres. Limited time only. Offer ends February 28, 2013 or while stocks last. Camera must be added to cart at the time of purchase. Offer applies to selected Xperia Tablet S models only.

edit : aw last day tonight :(

    • don't think you can use the 30% off the tablet + $99 for the HX30

  • anyone knows is it MHL supported? how to get the HDMI to TV working?

  • Where do you get the 30% off computers, only in-store?

  • Is there an expiration date for this deal?

    • it will end next week

  • +3

Sony has an awesome UI on this tablet:
    http://i.imgur.com/sy210PY.jpg

    • lol

  • Does the Sony store in Adelaide still exist? About 6-8 weeks ago when I last saw it they had been locked out of the store. I can't recall the notice specifically but sounded like they were behind on their lease payments.

  • I cant see the deal online at all, showing $549 for the tablet

    • not online, @ Sony Center only

  • +1

Could this be Sony getting ready for the new model in May? http://bit.ly/13oEecU

  • does anyone know if this tablet is upgradable to Jellybean? if so, it'll run alot smoother :)

    • +5

The model before this was upgraded to Jellybean back in Nov and runs beautifully. The Sony tablets really are well built and the SD card slot is a great addition for transferring photos from a camera.

  • Will call Sony store Sydney at 10 to check for any stock. If anyone's interested I can update at 10 if ur willing to walk to the store… Providing they have any left.

  • I'm not certain about this one with the stuff about gaps and the multi port in place of USB and HDMI

    • true but bang for buck i have used one before and they are great. I wouldnt actually ever purchase this thing at full price. I would only pay this discounted price for it. If you can find a better tablet under $300 i will buy that. Given the gap issue, i probably would only keep this in the house and wouldnt recomend it being used on the road as they dont seem to be too durable.

      • +2

The dude in store said the gap issue has been fixed in these ones during production.

        • +1

Yeah probably the same guy who told me they would have enough stock to last the whole weekend

        • Yep that was him. I lol'd when he said that to me, but I'm sure he will change his tune now that he has felt the full power of Ozbargain.

  • -1

From the reviews battery life appears emphasised as a deal breaker. Shame

  • I called up a few sony shops this morning like the one in NSW Drummoyne and they said the price is $489 …. THAT PRICE on the link doesn't look legit so not a very happy ozbargain post

    Anyone try?????

    • Not advertised on the Sony Centre special offers page either.

    • I visited the Drummoyne store. Guy said this deal was available yesterday along with the camera, $368 for tab + cam. But somehow the dude was behaving a bit odd anyway, as if he was just trying to avoid the deal. Felt a bit odd standing in almost empty store anyway. Oh, well, would have hated to buy $50 multiport cable anyway…:o)

  • Looks great..
going to call up today to see if they have stock.

  • +1

    Price confirmed in melbourne stores.

  • Just rang the Adelaide store they now nothing about the special at all….

    :(

  • +1

Got one at nunawading just now. He said they had a few left. $269 no questions asked.

  • In the find a store page ( http://www.sonycentres.com.au/Home/Find-a-store.aspx?storeid… ) NSW isn't on the list of states. Does that mean the deal is not eligible for Sydney stores?
Might be only the Victorian stores that are offering the deal.

  • Confirmed none in Sydney, Nunawading have a couple left and will ship interstate. be quick!

    • nvm

  • +1

    All gone now at Nunawading

  • Sydney city store closed down. No wonder no one pick up phone

    • So that explains why NSW isn't on the list of find a store.

  • -2

    Please update to vic only.

    • I grabbed one this morning in Brisbane CBD…

    • was available at Robina Qld.

  • yeah city store closed, called another store and the offer has expired and they wont do it at the same price. oh well better to get no sale then 1 sale i guess. stupid.

  • Almost purchase this last night http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+-+Refurbished+Xperia+Tablet…

Don't think I will be now.

  • +1

Just bought 2 units from Melb City Galleria store an hour ago. They still had plenty stock left when I left, like a dozen or something.

    • The Melb City Galleria are also doing a good price on the 32 gig version as well.

  • +2

The 16GB tablet is now sold out. 32GB SGPT122 is on sale for $349

  • I just bought mine at the Brisbane store.

The first one's power button wasn't working, but I was able to swap it over with no problems.

  • I just picked up 1 from the Adelaide store, and have 1 on order, they rang me back.

    • When is the order coming in? Gurantee stock?

  • I just bought mine at the Brisbane store, and they guy mentioned that it was the last one. Apparently they're getting more stock.

They also have the 32GB WiFi model for (I think) $389 in stock, and the 16GB 3G Model for $399 (at the Brisbane Store).

  • damn, Perth is doing it for $299 16gb!! 32GB $399!!

    • Did you tell them about the ad? Show them the ad on your smart phone?

      • yeah i showed them the add on my iphone, they said this was not for Perth, then they rang Brisbane told me they can do $269 + shipping to perth.

    • that sucks! which store in perth did u go?

      • city store on murray st

    • Is it because Perth is closer to China and Japan so we deserve to pay $30 more?

  • +1

There was about 6 32gb models left at Galleria Melbourne about half an hour ago. I got one, and will also be claiming back the GST when I go o/s next week. Thanks OP!

  • call me picky but 1280x800 is a little bit low res for a 9"+ tablet. Better off getting a 7" 1280x800 tablet like the AT270 deal a few months ago (also Tegra 3).
I notice one handy thing this tablet has is IR.

  • Sony Centre Brisbane is still taking orders for the 16 GB. They have about 5 left of the 32GB as well.

    • how much for the shipping to SYD?

      • The Nunawading store let me organise my own shipping to Sydney. So I did via http://courierquotes.com.au/ and emailed the courier docket to the Sony centre to stick on the packet. Great service!

  • Just called up all the VIC stores, all sold out.

  • Hobart still has stock

  • Was waiting for a good tablet deal. My wife got the 32GB model for me from the Melbourne city store. It's a better size and pushes me over the tourist refund scheme threshold so I can get the GST back when I travel to the states next month!

    • +1

I am so glad that some of you grabbed this great Tablet at a bargain price.
      Have a good weekend all.

  • Perth Leach Hwy Sony centre only has the 16gb wifi+3g for $349, the guy told me the wifi deal was only for QLD

    • That price is very good for a 3g version!

    • just let themkeep their tablets and we keep our money.

  • Just bought a Transformer TF300T :( Could have saved some $$$ Good deal anyway, these are great tablets.

  • Lol! Ozbargain in full effect is amazing!

    • Professionals ;)

  • Did any one has Power LED INDICATOR issue, I picked up the tablet from Brisbane store 2 days ago and realised that the power led indicator is not working at all, no matter it is in charging or normal use. Bought it back to store and found the demo one had blue/orange light while charging. However, the new one they swapped for me had same light issue and they tested another one it did not even boot up. Now I have to wait new stock coming in next week. Maybe the whole batch have some common quality issue with the lights.
    Any suggestions?

    • Mine is fine.

    • mines fine as well, it has orange when charging and green when charged :P
