  • I am still waiting something like the last deal $2xx with speakers.

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/85457

Or this $184 for receiver only.

Or you can wait for something like this for $99 VSX521:
      http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/81301

    • i got the first link $2xx
but be warn, no audio pass through and somehow i think its not compatible with LG tv (the ARC function).
also ticking sound from subwoofer (on and off)
plus, blinks my tv screen when playing xbox (at the beginning or after quiet for sometimes)
and receiver body is too big / thick

overall, not very happy. would prefer the cheaper one $99 below

  • Don't worry about the packaged deal with speakers. The speakers in the link are budget and not very good, you're better off buying a receiver separately + quality speakers.

    • Agreed but this is not for me is for a friend. I already have the older version VSX520 and I don't need 3D.

      • Its the TV that does the 3D function

        • +1

No, you need a 3D compatible receiver to play 3D movies.
3D gaming is a different story though. Not sure about XBOX but I could play 3D games on my PS3 with my non-3D receiver, but movies wouldn't play.

        • I thought so too, but my old avr 590 does pass through "Passive 3D" to my LG tv from PC running Totalmedia .

    • Any recommendations on a decent separate receiver and speaker? Looking for good value, not necessarily cheap.

(and not $000's either, ha ha).

      • No audiophile here, but the wharfedale diamonds 10.1s are up there in terms of value for money. I've got a pair and have no complaints. Check out RIO AV for best price delivered.

  • Only issue with the 5xx series is that its only 5.1 sound. 7.1 is a better way to go personally, as more bluray movies are starting to support this

    • +1

Also depends on your room. 5.1 and 7.1 won't make a difference at all if your room is like 4m x 4m.

More speakers doesn't mean it is better.

  • I'm going to wait for the price to drop to $99 like the VSX-521

  • i found the speakers to fine for the price when i got the 260 deal http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/85457

  • for the owner of this, anyone has the same issues(and solved) below?
the ARC function with LG tv - not working
ticking sound from subwoofer (on and off)
plus, blinks my tv screen to black for split seconds when playing xbox (at the beginning or after quiet for sometimes)

    • Pioneer ARC Compatibility is spotty at best, there's a list somewhere on their site that says which tv's are supported. iirc Panasonic and Sharps were the only ones certified to work.

Ticking sound - You mean the sub going on and off? Thats down to your sub, you can turn off auto-sensing/power saving if you want on the sub and it will just stay on all the time

No idea about blinking, my S300 doesn't have that problem though.

      • thanks hboound.
no there is no auto sensing power thingy on my sub. only volume and on/off button, and of course i turn it on all the time.
