ROFL! Considering the Wii is almost identical hardware wise this is so funny. Great for the kids.

  • +1

Selling fast by the looks of it

  • Does EB or GAME still sell (2nd hand) games for this console?

  • Bugger, that would've been great for the kids, but none in stock anywhere near where I live. The games for the GameCube seem to be only $5 each.

  • My work has blocked the EB website, so I can't see the sale… :(

    What are the details?

Just got back from my local EB, and they are selling them for $29… they had no idea about a $10 sale.

  • even $29 is great price! I have a Wii already so no need for the GC anymore but no stock in Melb CBD or Geelong :(

  • Well I really have no need for one… but if I can get one for $10, I'd pick one up. I've called a couple of EB stores now, they can't confirm the $10 gamecube… damn.

    • Tell them to check their website, so many morons work at EB.

      • Through the luck of the Gods, my work seemed to unblock the EB Games website…. I was able to load the page, print it out, and took it into my local store.

I now own a $10 gamecube…. I swear they gave me the worst looking one - it needs a serious clean. Still, it has a 12 month warranty I believe… :)

        • Most likely nothing to replace it with but, so just your $10 back lol :)

  • Used the postcode stock search on the page to check for Toowoomba, QLD (4350). Showed no stock. Confirmed by ringing Toowoomba Grand Central - they don't even stock them at all now.

Good deal though - pick one up if you can, then maybe sell it on ebay.

  • They really dont sell for more then $30 on ebay, especially with no games etc.

  • does it come with a controller or anything???

and how much are the games??

    • Comes with the console, power adapter, standard AV cable, and one controller. No memory card, no games.

  • wow thats damn cheap! considering there are still quite a few games while playing on the gamecube, not to mean running linux and emulators on it! its almost a steal

    • anychance you can elaborate on how to run linux and emulators?

  • -1

According to the picture on the EB site, it has a controller (although according to that same pic there are no cables provided).
Connect the controller to the Wii — Gamecube controllers are selling for ~$30 on ebay (albeit for two brand new ones)

    • +1

it never shows the cables in pics.

      • EB Games will supply the cables if they have any in the stock room. If they don't and you need the cables, try and bargain with them for a set of new cables. They would probably just offer you a discount anyway.

  • +1

If this is $10 preowned, how much would you get to trade in one of these…$2?

  • Got a brand new one today at EB Chadstone (Vic) for $10 - purely for nostalgia of course! Now where did I keep that Game Boy Player for the Gamecube… 8-)

They seem to have a few more pre-owned ones out at the back if anyone is interested.

    • how did you get brand new?

      • they just happen to have one brand new in the box sitting there.. lol

    • My local EB had one brand new one, but they wouldn't sell that for $10. Damn - you got a really good deal there!

  • went to my local eb, they had plenty in stock but i didnt end up buying one due to lack of availability of cheap games.

  • if you have an EB Edge card, maybe that price goes down to a whopping $9!

    • not really, the card doesn't work on hardware.

  • -1

anyone know how to install "downloaded" games onto a game cube?

can you just burn to cd??

    sorry noob question.

      1. You need a mod-chip
      2. You need a special case to fit standard DVDs into it

EDIT: You can also stream ISOs if you have the network card (this is really stretching my memory)

  • great buy, but im after a super nintendo lol.. anyone know where they are available???

  • EB sells new gamecube's for $150.00 there is no way in hell you could get away with one for $10.

Plus there is NO EDGE discount on consoles, only games.

  • Well… I'm taking mine back tomorrow for a refund. It works, but the power supply rattles a lot - things have broken off inside of it, and they use a weird screw type so I can't open it to see if it's just bits of plastic, or actual electronics components. I'm not game enough to risk using it, so I guess I'll just go get my money back (I doubt the store will have any left to replace it with).

    • +1

Update… I was bored, and determined… I figure the console is so dirty anyway, so they wouldn't noticed if I had opened up the adapter. :) It took a bit of effort, and removed the black coating of the screws, but they do come out reasonably easily, and without otherwise damaging anything.

So, what did I find inside? A small ball of solder. Yep, had I shook this thing around while turned on, I could have shorted something and blown it all up. Yikes. Thankfully, just looks like a bit of extra solder - all components are still attached and soldered down properly.

I guess this is just a word of warning for preowned stuff.

Now to open the gamecube itself for a clean!

  • ill check this out tomrmow! hope theres some left in vic !

  • Did anybody notice if EB still had any Xbox's for $40?

  • UPDATE:

Went back to my local EB and decided to buy one,

they had three in stock and they allowed me to mix and match the parts.

I ended up getting the console in the best condition and a WIRELESS!!! Controller as well both for $10..

I then went bought 5 games for $5 each!!

    Total cost, $35…

    Bargain!!

  • just need to get a memory card aswell, anyone know where to score one?

    • Yes, I got some of EB's $5 games (thanks to this post) and needed a bigger memory card. DealExtreme sells a 128MB card for US$8.63 including free airmail from Hong Kong. Easy to order, tracking, etc, it turned up about 10 days later. Here's the link: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.4417

The kids say it's working just fine.

    • How do you turn it into a linux media server? :) I have no idea what to do with mine….. I used to be a big fan of "Dr Mario" (tetris type game on the NES), so I'll have to see if there's a remake of that for the gamecube. :)

  • Tried 3 store in person and rang 2 no stock no eta of stock. =(

  • none at eastland, vic

  • Wickwill somehow managed to get 5 games for $5 each…. my local EB had 8 games, but they were all VERY expensive (some even $70-odd). So, where can I buy ultra-cheap games for my "new" (preowned) console? :)

It's just sitting there connected to my bedroom TV…. and I have absolutely nothing to use with it. :) It'll either become a $10 paperweight, or I might get some use out of it if I can find some $5 games myself. :)

Oh and I guess I need a memory card for save games too….

  • I'm gonna go drop into EB today and see if I can pick one of these up.

    • Got the last one in store!

  • I just purchased a purple Gamecube from the Tuggerah EB Games store today. As of 10:30 they had 2 left in stock, a silver and a black. Unfortunately they are holding one for an EB games employee to purchase, but you could perhaps haggle them for it if you were desperate.

You have to go down in person as they are refusing to hold the consoles over the phone. First in, best dressed. Oh, and no memory cards I'm afraid, but they gave me a brand new Powerwave controller, so fair is fair.

They are selling the games for $5, too! I picked up Turok: Evolution.

Outstanding value for this tiny, underrated console. So if you're near Tuggerah Westfield, get down there ASAP!

  • what games were they selling or what games did everyone get for $5? Are they all $5?

the gamecube was such an underrated console…in Australia anyway..has a lot of awesome games

  • I'm assuming the games are preowned? I just asked where their games were - they said they had eight games, pointed to the shelf - and woah, they were expensive (equivalent in price to the latest xbox 360 games, but these were old gamecube games). So I just walked out… will have to go check out another store after work tonight.

    • all of the games are now $5, ask in store they will confirm.

  • um anyone one know which stores have stock in sydney?

  • i bought one yesterday, a platinum edition. it was the last in adelaide (my friend rang every EB store after i bought mine)
i also picked up a heap of games, 13 in total, all $5 each.
have yet to set it up and test it though.
    $75 for a gamecube and 13 games - what a bargain!

now just need to find Zelda and some Mario games.
think eBay will be my friend

  • anyone know if they will play NTSC games?

    • +1

Nup it won't. Gamecube is region specific so only PAL games will work.

Can you please list which games you got :) Truly is a bargain

  • Gr8t pick

  • anyone know if you can use Wii Memory cards in the GC??

what is the cheapest way to get a memory card for it?

    • The Wii uses standard SD cards which aren't compatible with Gamecube. You'll need Gamecube memory cards (the same ones that go in the Gamecube memory slot on the top of the Wii).

You can get them cheap on eBay…3rd party ones..but you'll prob be paying more for it than the console which isn't that much of a surprise.

  • the games i bought:

    Spiderman
    Smuggler run warzones
    Spyro A Heros Tail
    Shrek 2
    007 Agent under fire

          Fifa Football 2004
          Tetris Worlds
          Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc

have a huge collection now, all for under $250 :)

          • +1

@emerson: You have some fantastic games there (really awesome I mean), but others i.e. Enter the Matrix, aren't worth your time and degrade the quality of your collection. I would eBay some of the lesser choice ones (check gamerankings.com or metacritic.com for scores) and see what you can get.

            Just my 2 cents.

          • @emerson: "Super Mario Sunshine
            Mario Party 6
            Metroid Prime 2: Echoes"

            For $5 each? Nice!!

  • For the memory cards - I've checked Ebay, and there are a lot of 128Mb wii/gamecube memory cards from Hong Kind (between $15 - $20 inc postage). They look nothing like SD cards, so I'm assuming these will work in a Gamecube (or does the gamecube have a limit to the size in Mb of the cards?).

I have only bought a small amount of games, because they are so hard to find. I have bought:

    Viewful Joe: Red Hot Rumble
    Vexx
Happy Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Legend of Spyro: A new beginning
    Barnyard
    Jimmy Neutron: Jet Fusion

There are still some games around at the stores (lots of motorbike and sports games mainly), but even at $5, I can't justify buying them - I'm only after kids games, and typical nintendo games (i.e. Mario).

I really, really, really want a Dr Mario game…. sigh.

    • They obviously don't look anything like SD cards because they're not. Gamecube uses its own specific memory cards just like the PS2.

The reason they advertise them as Wii/Gamecube memory cards on eBay is because you'll still need a Gamecube memory card to save Gamecube games when playing them on the Wii. You can't use the Wii's hard drive or SD cards to save Gamecube games, only Wii games.

The Gamecube's memory cards units are 'blocks', where

      4mb = 59 blocks
      16mb = 251 blocks
      64mb = 1019 blocks
      128mb = 2043 blocks

And it'll tell you on the back of the case how many blocks the save file for that game uses. Nintendo's official memory cards only go up to 1019 blocks. So whether there's a limit, I'm not sure since that's all 3rd party territory.

The average save file is around 5 blocks…and depending on the game, that can be 5 blocks for the entire game or 5 blocks for each separate save file for that game. For example, Luigi's Mansion has 3 save profiles which make up 1 save file on the memory card and it's only 3 blocks. But Resident Evil's save files are split into individual save files on the memory card, each of which is 9 blocks.

Those 2 are a couple good Gamecube games to pick up by the way :P

I have a Wii but I still have my Gamecube and Gamecube games. From the looks of it, EB aren't selling any of the Gamecube's real good games for $5 so for those that are willing to get a hold of 1 of the many Gamecube games that went unrecognised, you really should….but you'll most likely have to spend more than $5.

      http://www.metacritic.com/games/gamecube/scores/

  • I saw in BigW in Shepparton, Vic, a package which had a GameCube controller and a memory card (don't know the size) for about $25. Just thought to mention it, in case other BigWs had similar offers for you memory card hunters.

  • Yeah I saw that too… you're definitely right - a memory card plus controller is around $25 at big-W. I'm very tempted, but (and there's always a but) - all the gamecube games I've just bought are 1 player only, so the second controller would be useless to me right now. I think the memory card is 16Mb.

It's a toss-up between a larger memory card on ebay for around $15, or the controller + smaller card from Big-W for $25….

However, the Wii works with those controllers, plus can use the memory card, and can play the gamecube games… so Big-W might win out, just to plan for the future.

    (I have a 360, but will buy a Wii once they get really cheap… i.e. $200)

  • Update… Big-W sell the controller and 16mb card for $29. Yikes… okay, not as good value then… I'll pick up just the memory card off ebay (a much bigger memory card) for around half that price.

  • Im going hunting for games again tomorrow,

    ive got 5 so far,

    Medal of Honour: Rising Sun
    The Sum of all Fears
    True Crime: Streets of LA
    True Crime: NY
    FIFA: 05

    need more though

  • I just picked up a copy of 'Viewtful Joe: Red Hot Rumble' at EB Games, Erina Fair.

In case anyone else is after some $5 games on the Central Coast, EB Erina store has these worthwhile titles:

    Virtua Striker 3
Another copy of Viewtful Joe: Red Hot Rumble
    Rayman 3

The rest of it is primarily sports games (think NBA 2003) which have newer iterations which are basically the same thing.

  • UPDATE: recently picked up COD2 Big Red One,

and if anyone is stuck for memory cards, hit up focal price, they have 32mb for 5.30….

    • Isn't that one for the Wii?

      • yep!!

  • Just wondering, was anyone lucky enough to get Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, Baten Kaitos, Tales of Symphonia or Skies of Arcadia for $5?
