Ok, So you have just taken $14 off your previous deal. I don't know SSD prices, but just wanting to point this out.

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/93277

    • They purchased a whole heap of stock last week then started accepting pre orders with part of their strategy to flip it quick some free advertising on OzBargain, unfortunately the reception they received was not the best so now their back for a second bite of the apple trying to clear the stock ASAP :P
But if I was one of the people who had just purchased one I would be pretty annoyed.

It's also worth noting they were originally charging around $275.

  • It's $1 more than US Amazon and Newegg and has free delivery. That's very good deal imo, but people aren't happy with this SSD though since they keep comparing it to the SS 840 Pro.

    • Actually I was looking at a stress test of the 256GB 840 Pro and it appeared to be holding up extremely well, stress test had not completed but it was looking to out class the 830…

    • Any idea why people aren't happy about it? Just brand nervousness?

I've been doing a bit of research into what's available (I'm in the market for a new SSD), and the review on Anandtech for these new Vector drives show them to absolutely be a peer to the Samsung 840 Pro drives. They've got a brand new controller so they're nothing like the old Vertex drives. From the final words: "Samsung typically enjoys better peak performance, but OCZ's Vector appears to have the advantage when it comes to worst case performance and IO consistency."

In terms of this deal, it's the same price as the Samsung 840 from this deal, and is decently cheaper than the normal 'cheap retailer' price for the Vector ($274).

It is mostly issues with the brand, it's early days still as to whether they have actually turned over a new leaf.
On the OCZ forums there were a couple of reported failures that I saw which made it sound very sensitive, but there was apparently a new firmware version in the works (might be released now) which fixed these problems.
Personally Samsung has been a good brand for me, I can't say the same for OCZ.

If you want to compare to US vendors, $249 USD is actually $240 AUD.

I personally have had 2 OCZ drives die on me in a matter of months. It'd take more than a game (which I currently own, thanks to the $8 for the whole franchise deal :D) to make me join the dark side.

but people aren't happy with this SSD though since they keep comparing it to the SS 840 Pro.

And what's wrong with that? If there's a superior product in the same price point, then those people have a good point.

The 'comparing apples with apples' argument only works when one product can do something the other can't. In this case they're both just solid state hard drives. It's not like one can fly.

Ah yeah… I forgot to take the currency into account…
While the 840 Pro may be a bit better, OCZ is attempting to reach a lower price-point for gamers by including FC3.
