ooooo 2 end of the spectrum… I'm thinking the Acer S3 looks sufficient for them… cheers!
Do you have a concession card?
If so anyone with a concession card can get all they want. Items such as laptops LCD TV's, Fridges etc. Starting @ $20 per week and it gets taken out of your payments. All you have to do is go to www.makeitmine.com.au
So Exception and everyone enjoy. Because I can't :( All the best to all on Valentines Day :)
Cheers Karsta
I'm uni student myself for 3 years already!.
This is my opinion. Do not go for ultrabooks, reason is that it is slow compared to normal laptops. CPU in ultrabooks are different to one that goes into the normal laptops to decrease the power usage so it will get slower during the use. If you have budget around 1.3K then go for 15inch laptops from asus or acer or HP. I have had ultrabooks from acer and it is slow and there are no graphic cards to play games sadly (might sound funny but need to take a break from lecture notes!!!).
Hope that helped :)
Thanks for your insight
The student currently owns a 15" laptop and is complaining that it is too heavy to lug around (female :P)
So I thought an ultrabook would be easier. I dont think she'll ever play games on it so GPU wouldnt be an issue
Having said that, do you have any suggestion for any 15" laptop? I may be able to convince her if its good :)
Hi there.
GPU is not always for a game purposes :) It can be used for graphical usages if you are a medical, art or engineering :). Ultrabook uses normal intel graphic cards which are slow and hopeless. I had seen some ultrabooks that has separated gpu cards embedded in HP ultrabooks but expensive :S
I recommend Asus which has good models and cheap prices under 1.5k
such as ASUS R501VM- 3150H
http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/r501vm-s3150h-asus-r501v…
There are other models related to R501VM and VZ, have a look in centrecom and compare it to other computer shops such as MSY and CPL (if you live in Melbourne).
Before I finish, please have a closer look at the reviews in the youtube with the laptops that you want to go for, laptop is an asset to uni students (financially hard uni students D: like me). So it is only one and only go for it :)
Hope that helped :)
Hey there,
I end up getting a Asus Zenbook UX32VD-R3001V a cpl of months ago from a deal on here, I too am a uni student. It is a great device, quite happy considering the price tag at the time was $699, I really wanted a Samsung series 9 but really couldn't justify it.. Check out statice

Yes it doesn't have a dedicated ssd but it has a hybrid drive which units me fine.
Ram be upgraded if need be in the future, whereas most ultrabooks are soldered an impossible to ge too.
All the best
Dell XPS 13 intro special at $1299.
That's ULV i7 + 8GB RAM + 128GB SSD + 13.3" Full HD screen. You can even get some Twinings tea bags with that remaining $1 :)
Alternatively on the cheaper end, this last gen Acer Aspire S3 is $540 after cashback. Sandy Bridge i5 + 4GB RAM + 256GB SSD with 13.3" 1366x768 screen. Since RAM is soldered onto motherboard with these ultrabooks, I don't think there's a way to upgrade it (if 4GB is not enough).
