Acer Aspire S3 Ultrabook w/ 256GB SSD - $555 Shipped after $159 Cashback

UPDATE — Turns out OnlineComputer has already cut out the SNID and claimed the cashback themselves. See this comment from danbyrne. Therefore the price should have been $699 instead of $540 after cashback, plus delivery cost. Meanwhile, OnlineComputer has also raised the price to $849.

  • good one.

  • don't you mean $540 ? 699-159=540

    • plus shipping

~15 to metro Melb, not sure about other places

  • Great price indeed. Should have posted as a deal.

Do you think it is worth moving it to deals now?

I reckon the only reason they haven't sold out is because OnlineComputers aren't advertising the cashback.

I picked up the last i7 one at MSY Dandy South as I couldn't wait for shipping. The 2nd Gen i7 does get kinda hot and the fan is on a lot, even when doing very basic tasks. Keyboard isn't great either. Keys will sometimes depress but not actually register. You have to hit 'em right in the centre. I am missing a lot of letters while typing but will probably improve as I adjust to the keyboard. If I lean to the side of the Alt key with my thumb (while it is still depressed) when Alt-Tabbing (or Win-Tabbing), it will come out of the Alt-Tab window.

Anyway, SSD is the big plus and am still very happy

  • 699-159+15(shipping to melbourne)=555

    • 9 dollars shipping to Sydney though so the delivery cost is not constant.

  • Hi could someone please give me some advice?

Would it be worth paying an extra $150 to get the Aspire S3-391-53314G52add with $99 cash back here http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/moorabbin/Acer_S3-391_Core_i5_…

    specs here: http://penta.com.au/acer/13-14-laptop/acer-aspire-ultrabook-…

or just getting this one for $555?

Basically I have a home pc and will be using this for uni. The 500gb is not a requirement as 256gb should be enough for my needs.

    Thanks any advice is appreciated

      3rd Gen i5
      USB 3.0
      And hopefully an improved keyboard

      Up to you
HDD makes a bit of noise though

    • I would just go for the one with the SSD if you don't want slow start up times.

  • this is great thanks

  • Hey guys new here, but just to let you know that the cashback offer is not available on the i5 model only the i7. Purchased an i5 today and the barcode was missing. Spoke to the guy said the offer is only available on the i7 edition.

    Sorry to burst any bubbles.

That's not what the official Acer website says?
And why would the barcode be missing?

I'm 100% sure they are doing the cashback and i'll be buying the s3 this week to prove it.

      • If you manage to get the cashback for that model, do let us know. I almost ordered it but then stopped as I read a comment in another similar deal that acer didn't honour onlinecomputer's invoice

    • Where did you purchase it from?
I know some dealers will claim the cashback for themselves.

  • +1

Bought one yesterday from OnlineComputer, and yes indeed, they have already cut out the required SNID barcode section, presumably to claim the cashback for themselves…

Furthermore, I tried to submit the claim anyhow, and the cashback site said that the SNID had already been submitted for claim…

    • how did you know the snid if it was cut out?

      • There is another sticker on the internal box if I remember correctly.

        • Yes, it is inside box's barcode that they had already cut out. The outer box's barcode also does have the SNID, but it doesnt reference 'SNID' so I wouldnt have known that the number was the SNID…. I was going to use that to attemp to claim it, but it's already been claimed…

      • Where they cut out the SNID, they wrote the SNID in pen on the cardboard section… if they had not done this, I would not have known the SNID and not been able to even check the status…

    • +1

Wow, that is very deceptive of OnlineComputer. I guess it is always best to call up and clarify things such as cashbacks when buying online.

      • +1

Yes, I think that you are right… and what is strange is that OnlineComputer is stating cashback available on some of their Acer laptops, so presumably they have NOT already claimed the cashback on these laptops…

Furthermore, on this laptop, OnlineComputer has also just increased the price by $150…!! (but not giving back the cashback to the customer either)

        • Hi Guys, further to this, I emailed OnlineComputer about this issue and they told me that they were given a special deal from Acer that already had the SNID removed and were not claimable for cashback… I wonder whether Acer would verify this story!?
