      Where was it?

Good price. USB 2.0 is a lose, but fine for wii / media player.

Can anyone report if any other stores have these ? Not shown on website.

  • nationwide?

BTW - I have a 5 yr old Wii which I originally got modded - can't play a lot of the newer games as I'm worried about upgrading the system software and screwing up the mod chip.

Whats the current best way to soft mod and play back-ups from an external HDD?

    • +1

Check out the stickies on the gbatemp.net forums

Edit: You may have you update the modchip prior to softmodding the console

checkout www.wiihacks.com Should be able to find everything you need there.

    • Running one of the WD 500gb at the moment on an original untouched white Wii. Works perfectly fine with every PAL and NTSC game I have on it. I recently used ModMii software to softmod the console. Which basically downloads all the software with full instructions needed to softmod the Wii console. For playing homebrew and games from a USB hard drive.

  • Anyone can confirm any in WA?

  • Thats a bargain!

  • Very good price - and agree with the comments about USB2 being slow but fine for media player etc… After using a USB3 drive I'd have troubles going back to USB2 flavour for transferring files between PC's…

Shame WD don't use SATA interfaces in them and use a USB connector board instead (price / cost saving) - would make a very good price/performance point if you took it apart and re-used the drive in a budget PC or PS3 etc….

  • Good deal. Beats those portable 250GB USB2.0 that Harvey Norman was trying to flog for $70 awhile back… If only it was available in NSW…

  • Price match @ office works?

    • I don't think so - Officeworks don't have any of the USB2 models left.

    • Nup - that's a USB2 model.

  • Just checked at Garden City QLD and nothing

Officeworks still has sh!tloads of 320 GB USB 3.0 drives for $39

  • -2

not worth a cent more. USB2 sux

    • +3

      Unless you don't have any USB3 ports…..

      • I've seen a test where USB 3.0 product is still better for backwards compatibility. People's expectations for a USB 3.0 product are higher so it makes sense.

went to get one - found the seagate expansion USB3.0 500GB drive for $9 more ($48) - bought that instead :D

    • at the same store or elsewhere?

  • i wonder if i can load up windows on this HDD and boot from MBA. it would be useful to have access to windows without taking up valuable room on the SSD.

    • You can but it will be slow as USB 2.0 unless you take out the drive.

      • the MBA doesnt accept esata or usb 3 :(.

so usb 2 is the max ill be able to use.

        • The new MBA has USB 3

        • Uhmm…. hello? Thunderbolt?

        • unfortunately mine was the last one with USB 2.0 =(. purchased mine about 4 months before the usb 3.0 came out.

  • Will it be possible to remove the casing and connect the hard drive to PS3? Is this doable and will this void the warranty? TIA

    • I don't see why not…

  • The USB 2.0 hate surprises me.

The fact that someone said they don't use a standard sata port surprises me further. So no disassembly and integration into other (standard) interfaces?

    A shame.

  • Bah… i need one … how can i get a USB 2.0 hdd ?? :sad
