Total output of 10 watts is underwhelming

    • +3

      10 watts total RMS

my guess is that your comparing that to most cheap/small systems where they quote PMPO which is little more than a made up figure to advertise to people who dont understand RMS actually means.

10wrms in such a device as this is more than enough.

edit: PMPO is to amplifiers what RRP is to the typical OzB'er……. both totally meaningless

      • Agreed. For example, most modern factory supplied car stereos only run 10W RMS per channel and most of them are plenty loud and of a good enough quality for the masses. I've built a few 10W per channel Amps and they easily fill a room with detailed sound. Sure they were Class-A Amps running through very efficient full-range speakers and each cost nearly 20 times the value of this bargain BUT 10W shouldn't ever be scoffed at.

Rated power isn't everything. Listen to it and if you like it buy it, if you don't like it then keep looking. Simple.

It is. But I only wanted something to play my daughter's nursery rhymes cd's on (and needed it to be low power too). Not sure if I can hook it up to the Pioneer receiver/speakers that I got from OzB, though. Last player of this sort that we got was the Philips one and I think it had the same power rating. Turned out okay for our purpose…

  • is there an audio out with this? I want to hook up just the player to my yamaha receiver

    • ah…. the manual says the only audio out is the speakers and headphones..

Does anyone know if its ok to still hook this to a receiver using the headphones output?

      • I was wondering the same myself…

Does anyone know if its ok to still hook this to a receiver using the headphones output?

yup i had things running exactly like that for decades. you can buy 3.5mm (headfone) to 2xrca (to go into your pioneer amp) cords from heaps of places.

before the days of digital (digital optical/digital coax and these days HDMI) its how you hooked up things like PC's and laptops to larger speakers/amps

        • thank you!

nice combo there. we got it when it was $6, also for the kids.
the USB port is good for hours of kids music, so we don't go crazy listening to the same nurwsery rhyme CD on repeat :S
unfortunately for us, the remote never worked, and the cd door latch broke fairly quickly.

    • No pun, it was $60, was it?

      • From the comment in the previous deal, it seems it was $60 indeed.

    • I actually just put it on layby; will wait for partner's approval before going ahead with the purchase ;-) Thanks for the info!

      • I know its ozbargain…but you put a $48 item on layby?

        • +1

Yes I did, because I wasn't sure my partner would like it well enough to purchase. I intend to pay for it in full once I am sure I want it, which in this case is later today — not that it matters! I have put items of similar amount on lay-by before and I'm not ashamed of it ;-)

  • Has anyone bought one and played with it? I'm interested to know if it will play mp3s in folders (off usb) and if there is an option to 'repeat folder'.
