  • Nice price, I saw these on special for $699 in Adelaide 2 months ago.

  • Not that cheap, I got one of these a Christmas for $259 at Harvey Norman without pushing.

    • are they worth it and is it any good?

      • My issue with this system is not the audio quality, but the lack of input options.

      • +1

Good sound quality, there are a number of reviews on the internet around how good the sound quality is especially for the price. If you want something thats much better than standard LCD speakers and don't want a 5.1 system, then it is a great buy.

There is a lack of inputs into the system, on the plus side, you can program the speakers to turn on with the TV when your press the power button.

        • Does programming the system to power on the TV also involve special cabling? I have the YSP 2000 and it's a pain in the arse connecting the additional cables.

      • I would rate yamaha positively on most of their sound equipment. Going by the YSP 2000 that I own (and have grown to love even more over time), I would say the quality is very good and it does a good job simulating a multi-channel setup.

One thing I would do to make the YSP2000 better buying a sub woffer that reaches further into the lower frequencies. Yamaha soundbars (and the bundled subwoofer) work great but there isn't a lot of punch in the subwoofer.

The YAS-101 is probably an entry level soundbar designed for the TV in your bedroom. At this price it is definitely worth considering (unless you get one cheaper elsewhere).

  • I got mine a while ago from HN for $286 iirc (so not a deal). Got it same time they started selling PS3 bluetooth remotes on sale. It's okay, better than my DSE TV's speakers, but i was expecting more for my money.

The IR remote resender function doesn't work for me. The speaker bar is supposed to go infront/block the TV's Ir sensor and is suppose to resend commands to the TV. Doesn't work, so i have to position the sound bar so i can see the IR sensor and use 2 remotes.

GF gets confused with it all the time b/c either the tv and sound bar are both playing sound and i hear major echo (which she doesn't seem to notice (wtf? How does she not hear that?)) or the sound bar doesn't turn on with the TV and she gets no sound.

Its a good compromise till i can convince her to let me install 7.1 :) Which won't be any time soon by the way shes feels about the sound bar :(

    • I have the YSP 2000 and it requires a seperate set of cables connected to the TV to enable auto startup/shutdown. I wish they'd implemented this capability of HDMI.

It's a surprise both your TV and soundbar are playing sounds at the same time. How have you got them connected?

My set up is like this: All inputs (including foxtel, WD Live Streaming Media Player and Xbox) are connected via HDMI to the YSP 2000. The YSP 2000 is connected to the TV via HDMI. No additional cables. Works like a charm - though one has to use each of the remotes to turn on the input device, the soundbar and the TV.

  • +1

Regarding the inputs, I have everything plugged into my tv via hdmi (some on an ebay hdmi splitter) and the sound bar connected to the tv's audio out. So all I need/using is 1 digital in. Plugged into the tv are DSTB/PVR, PS3, X360, WDTV

  • where can I find a bargain S401?

    • eBay, most likely
