Please note that this is not actually a Honda Mower; it has a 4-stroke Honda Engine (which is good), but the brand of the mower is not stated. The blades and other key parts may or may not be good, and the same for the after-sale service.
I changed the title accordingly because I am worried people may misunderstand.

    • i'm pretty sure the brand is "automatic". bigw also sell "automatic" branded mowers which caused some confusion for previous deals

      • +2

Door Buster is owned by Woolworths

    • Quite often the Honda sticker is as close as the relationship is between Honda and some of these engines that claim to be made by Honda.
Not saying that's the case here but it is worth keeping in mind.

      • Okay found the engine, it's a Honda GCV135 which it appears is not availble here, it appears to be a euro model.
I'm not sure if it's covered by Honda or it may just be a Woolies warranty.

Either way it appears to be a good buy, particularly the 3 year warranty part.

      VTEC just kicked in, yo!

  • $71 shipping to Tas. No thanks!

  • $62 to WA.

  • Is the Honda engines are better than the Briggs and Stratton?
I'm worried about the after sales support

Maybe better pick-up the 909 16" from Masters for $199?

IMO the Honda engines are far better than the B&S. I went through three fairly decent B&S powered mowers in 6-7 years each worth around the $500 mark before I decided to pay the extra for a Honda and see what all the fuss was about. I've had the Honda now for 11 years, have only done a few basic services on it myself during that time and it's still going very strong and still looks like new when all the crud is cleaned off. Kinda says something.

The B&S engines I owned each had their own silly problems including weak alloy in the block around the spark plug which was cross-threaded from the factory but not covered by warranty so after it came flying out like a bullet one day I had to get a helical thread fitted at my own cost. The seals around the B&S air cleaners are poor so the engines induce fine dust & dirt. The carby & air intake on the B&S sits right inline with the direction of the waste from the blades which magnifies the above problem… especially when mowing in dusty conditions. The air cleaners are only foam vs the proper paper filters the Hondas use. All-in-all the B&S engines are built to a price point and although good they're nothing like the Hondas.

Invest in a full Honda mower ($700+) and you'll save money in the long run. They also have great resale value too in case your circumstances change and you need to sell it!

Yeah but is this a Honda or a Chonda? If its a copy you're better off with a simple design like B&S.

        • Oh yeah, totally agree. A B&S would still be a better buy than a cheapie rip-off.

  • Looks practically the same as the "Automatic" from BigW, except they quote a 118cc engine. Deck, wheels and catcher look identical in the pics.

This may interest you- found it at Whirlpool forum

    "1. The Honda Manufacturer's Warranty

Some Sellers are advertising their products as containing Honda GX-Series Engines, but offering ridiculous warranties such as 1 year back-to-base and parts only. The truth is that EVERY certified Honda Engine is backed by a 4 Year FULL Parts and Labour Warranty from Honda themselves. Every REAL Honda Engine has a barcode and serial number on the engine which entitles that engine to full warranty support from ANY Honda Dealer in Australia.

How to spot the fakes: It's really quite simple. If the product advertised is not covered by a 4 Year FULL Parts and Labour Warranty for Domestic Customers, then it's NOT a certified Honda.
    2. Chinese-Made Honda Engines

The truth is that some Authorised Honda Engines ARE manufactured in China. The Chinese authorised Honda Engines ARE top-quality engines manufactured to Honda's exacting standards. However, an authorised engine manufactured in China should also bear a sticker near the engine on/off switch which states "Not Certified for Sale in the US, Europe and Australia". Even the authorised Chinese Honda Engines aren't recognised here for warranty claims. Unfortunately, the vast majority of products containing "Honda" engines for sale here at eBay contain knock-off Honda engines using cheaper parts which were NEVER authorised by Honda.

How to spot the fakes: Again, you should look at the Product Warranty offered by the Seller. If it doesn't offer 4 Years FULL Parts and Labour for Domestic Customers, then it's NOT a certified Honda."

I think the review is more toward eBay sellers. Given Door Buster is owned by Woolworths and they sold genuine Hugo Boss watches on the last deal, i'd give them a bit more credit than those eBay sellers.

To confirm the authenticity of the engine, i already sent them an email to see what they say.

      • Surely a local retailer would be selling genuine Honda engine if stated otherwise they would be in hot water from Fair Trading or ACCC.

        Hi Dear Sir/Madam,

        We appreciate your enquiry.
Let me assure you our Honda branded engines do have genuine stickers which were printed to stringent Honda specifications.

Unfortunately we skimped on the internals of the engine, and in all honesty the price of the Genuine Honda Stickers set us back so far that you're better off buying a quality kids plastic mower.

I hope we have answered all your questions today, and please stick with Woolworths where we bring you low quality at an even lower price.

    • Okay sorry to tell you but this post is also incorrect, but I still wouldn't buy most of the "Honda engined" stuff off ebay.

GX engines are covered by a 3 year warranty.
      http://powerequipment.honda.com.au/GX_Engines/GX100

GCV engines, which is the type this lawnmower has (although it appears to be a non Au delivery item ) are covered by a 2 year domestic warranty.

  • Is this a rotary engine?

    • Are you embarrassed easily? It's a Wankel rotary engine.

      Apologies to Monty Python.

  • I've been looking for a mower for my niece. I must admit that website is very light on details. Windows Magnifier reveals - only just - it says Honda on the side of the catcher, but I cannot make out what it says on the front of the machine. Not very reassuring.

  • +1

Not a real Honda engine! Sorry mate, have to neg.

    • still to be confirmed.

Edit: just FYI, it's not me who negged you antler.

I bought a mower from Masters for $199. Bigger engine, 148cc Briggs & Stratton 4 stroke runs good and very happy with it.
    http://www.masters.com.au/product/900033472/909-16-petrol-mo…

    • I got the 909 4 stroke 16" also for 199. great mower. b & s motor is great.

      • yeah i got this one too.. i would've liked the lowest clearance setting to be a little bit lower for finer cuts.. and also the front and rear chassis to have more clearance as sometimes it gets a little tricky to manoeuvre.. other than that it's a very capable cheap mower.. the hard plastic catcher is better than soft ones

        and it was $179 before

Got this from Magnet Mart, starts ridiculously easy, plenty of power, easy to move around and adjust up and down,24 Months Warranty.
I don't have a huge lawn but it's big enough.
Thing is there are Bargains at times to be had but when you're looking at this price range it's pretty evenly matched. Just got to be careful of the ones that claim to have big brand backing.

Father in law has a B&S which he loves and a ride on but then he's got a very large area. I think the B&S is about 5 years old and going strong.

  • I'm recommending the 18" version of the 909 at Masters ($219) to my neice.

    • just fyi the 18" $219 is not a B&S engine

      • It is B&S engine - see the customer reviews
For some reason Masters website didn't mention this in the specification

Of Course you can always call Masters to confirm

        • +1

          that customer review is wrong

and i actually emailed 909 themselves to confirm back when i was purchasing last year

Here's a better image of the mower from the BigW site

    http://www.bigw.com.au/media/BIGW/Product/1000x1000/8299454_…

looks like a legit Honda motor.. Would big W really fraudulently use the Honda name? I know Ebay sellers would, but that's Ebay.

  • I sent DB an email queries about the authenticity and warranty of the engine and this is their reply:

    "Hi lang_tu_syd,

    Thanks for the note.

The Honda mower is a genuine honda product and the parts are covered under warranty for 3 years.

If you have any further queries, please relog an enquiry at www.doorbuster.com.au/customer_service

    Regards

    Sylvanus"

I'm a bit disappointed that it's different to ZRXS12's email but i believe this is a genuine Honda engine and a bargain. Only 6 hours left.

    • I must have got them on a bad day :(

  • Okay found the engine, it's a Honda GCV135 which it appears is not availble here, it appears to be a euro model.
I'm not sure if it's covered by Honda or it may just be a Woolies warranty, the above email doesn't really clarify that.
Either way it appears to be a good buy, particularly the 3 year warranty part.

  • I am loving the grass, why'd you be lookin' at cutting it for, man?

  • Use DB_795 coupon for $5 off $40+

  • At Masters, my neice was told quite a few 18" version 909's were being returned. They recommended the Wesco for $219, which she bought.

  • My "automatic" mower with the Honda engine was delivered yesterday.
The OHC Honda engine goes like a beauty and shows just how primitive those side valve Briggs and Stratton engines are .
Starts with half a pull. Plenty of power and very quiet.

It would go well with the ladies as not much more effort than vacuuming.
