The deal is quite simple get 50% off the access fee for the first 5 months on your Virgin Mobile Postpaid account, EXCLUDES APPLE PRODUCTS and BYO.

Available are a range of Samsung (Note 2 4G, SGS 2,SGS3 3G or 4G), HTC quite a few and a Sony Xperia™ acro S

The T&C of this deal also say NEW SERVICES ONLY, however existing customers should just ask when you use the upgrade number and all should be good.

In my opinion this a good deal as far as Postpaid services are concerned, also the OPTUS Network which Virgin Mobile operates on is quite reliable in my experience.

  • Seems that they switch it now and then between the 5 months half off and the 3 months full off.

    • Yeah they do swap it around a bit, I think in the past I've had 6 months 50% off also.

applied for samsung galaxy 3, hopefully will get the item next week=)

Given that this is their standard deal and regularly offer extra gigs of data I don't believe this is a bargain.

    • You mean the extra GB of data on their BYO plans which are not included in this offer?

Yes I realise that they regularly run specials like this, I'm not sure that impacts on it's status as a bargain.

For that matter we see items such as Coca Cola products on here, yet you could consider their prices to be regular as they are always that price at one retailer or another.

Anyway I posted it seeing as someone had posted an offer from Vodafone to show their are deals available on a superior product.

thank you for this, I was just about to start looking at mobile deals.

I just buy the phone outright online then get one of their cheap monthly plans ($19 a month). It works out so much cheaper, anyone on a pay as you go plan is wasting money.

It really depends upon your circumstances, postpaid is not for everyone.
But I really like the larger data quotas on Virgin.

I'm on a pay as you go plan, where i pay $19 a month with Virgin (handset included), so i don't see how "anyone on a pay as you go plan is wasting money"…

      • because after 24 months you end up paying far more than the retail value of your phone. I can't afford to pay for a full 24 months since my work isn't stable so it works better for me.

Paying month by month also gives you greater flexibility, now I am currently on the long expiry plan ($20 for 3 months). After that I am going overseas for 2 months so won't have to pay anything.

Also according to the virgin site the minimum spend is $29 per month handset included.

        • Well your comments on your own situation begs the question of why are you on postpaid at all when there are numerous prepaid deals which should suit you better.

I used to pay $19 a month on pre-paid and get under $200 credit and little Internet usage, with the $19 plan I get $450 credit + 2GB Internet so I don't see how I'm paying for more than the retail value… I got the plan last year. I'm just objecting to your statement "anyone on a pay as you go plan is wasting money"

  • is virgin any good? i'm assuming since they are using optus then it shouldnt be as bad as Vodafone, right??

    • In my experience it's good, it has full use of the Optus Network.

Of course most networks have their black spots so it's best to check your address or areas where you are regularly http://www.virginmobile.com.au/coverage/

Telstra of course has the best data speeds that I am aware of, but you also pay for that privledge.

I just did a Speedtest.Net and got 6894KBPS/807KBPS on Virgin in a large rural centre.

    • No Im a past virgin user, I will say whatever they offer just don't fall into the trap. their service is crap. Although they use Optus network I believe they do not use all the Optus bands. My friend used to work for Optus, he told me that. Problems I had were: sometimes not able to call out (in a capital city, urban area) and receive calls (my friends just straight went to my voicemail box). I would advise u to use boost/amaysim or the new kogan mobile. Just for ur reference.

      • I think this link speaks for itself http://www.virginmobile.com.au/coverage/ if you have some proof that they don't use the full network I'd be interested to see it :)

On a side note my friend used to ………….. lol reliable sources.

On a side note that every Optus reseller shows the same coverage map.. Every one claims they have 97% coverage. So don't fool us, rep.

      • I did have my first SGS2 DOA, and the operator I spoke to initially was just stupid, then again operators everywhere have gone down hill.
Anyway jumped on whirlpool started a new thread and had it sorted in a day plus i got a few extra bonuses :)

  • Damn I typed a response then I accidentally closed the tab.

As far as I know Optus has no deals with re-sellers which don't include full network coverage.

    Virgin is Owned by OPTUS.

It's all about marketing really Virgin has become known for cheap rates and good service across all the various Virgin operations (my opinion), so Optus pays to use the name.

By the way I'm not a rep, I hate customers :)

Here's a link with a good bit of information http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virgin_Mobile_Australia

And I stand by what I said before about proof on not using the whole network, then I'll kick up a stink and get another discount on my account :D
