  • They really should put that you can get the Acer cashback on their website(not just on the main page).

    • Yeah, its a bit odd… But I claimed a cashback from an Acer monitor a couple of years back from them without any trouble

  • This definitely $20 less then topbuy deal of $689.https://topbuy.com.au/tbcart/pc/$649-after-Cashback-Acer-ASPIRE-M3-581TG-Ultrabook-i7-3517U-15-6-inch-GT640M-4G-RAM-500-HDD-W7HP-NX-RYKSA-004-p189125.htm

  • How does this laptop compare to the one they had on sale last week?
I assume this one also has the crappy 1366 res

    • 1366 res is not crappy for 15.6" screen for normal viewing

      • -2

Nexus 10 has more than double the resolution of this screen in a 10 inch screen.

Laptops should be pushing this stuff out before tablets do.

        • +1

The Nexus 10 is also almost $500 for something that has probably 10-20% of the processing power of this laptop.

    • I don't know what they had last week, but this laptop should be quite good in all domains. Might even be able to run some games, thanks to the low resolution. Strong points would be i7 CPU, decent graphics chip for an ultrabook, and hybrid ssd/hdd combo.

      • 1366 res is crappy for 15" screen.

        • 1080p would be way nicer for sure, but the laptop would struggle to use that resolution in games. It doesn't look bad though, its just that it isn't as crisp as 1080 displays

  • The one Notebookcheck reviewed was similarly configured (same GPU, older model CPU but with same TDP) and they found it was pretty borderline heat wise, throttling when stressed. That was with a new unit - would hate to think what it could be like after a year or two when the thermal interfaces are degraded and there's more dust trapped inside.

    1080p according to onlinecomouter

A few friends have this or similar models. They run fine, no unusual heat. Performance is fantastic and the bloatware supplied isn't too bad. Runs most current games. They are nice and light, for a full featured unit. Battery lasts at least 5 or 6 hours, no matter how it's used. Screen res is a non-issue if you plug it into a 24" monitor when you're at home (and who wouldn't? 15" is teeny).

  • Its max memory is 6GB only.
