1TB Hitachi portable USB3.0 HDD, $79, Don't even think about getting it posted :/

112

Decent price for in store, I looked at postage and they wanted $39 so I quickly emptied my cart and closed the tab.

Typical prices for 1TB USB3.0 drives are around $89 eg.

I know Centrecom are not well received here on OZB, but if you need a drive just run in (and pay for it) and then get out as fast as possible.

Fair enough, to be honest I was of split minds as to whether it was worth the post (because of the same reason) but some people do live near a store so I'd like to dedicate this post just to them :)

If you're going to neg because the price with postage is more expensive, then I think that there would be a number of posts that shouldn't make it to ozbargain. Check postage to 0860 or 4830 before submitting a deal to see if it is still worthwhile. This is not specific to any particular company but most of them. There has been previous deals where the postage has been more than the cost of the item for me.

to the 6 that gave me a neg, feel free to pay $39 for postage, you wonder why we pay double for things in AU, because idiots like yourselves are willing to pay it. It can go in an overnight express bag for no where near $39 to anywhere in the country $39 is exploiting the consumer plain and simple.

      • +1

No one said they are willing to pay that postage… Your comment got neg voted cause your reason for negging the post was poor… This is still a good buy for some who are near a centrecom…

        • -1

The comment was for the postage being crap, not the deal, re read the comment instead of being a sheep like the other fools, I clearly say "its worth a neg as the postage is crap" I dont say anything about the price of the drive at all.

        • +3

Yes and the 10 people that negged you clearly feel like your reason for negging was petty and might stop someone who lives close to centre com from seeing the deal and grabbing a hard drive at a decent price.

        • -2

Good point my powers of mind control on the feeble minded have caused people to clearly miss deals in the past. Simple fact the post cost is overpriced that nobody in there right mind would pay….excluding the 10 neggers it seems, the deal may be good but that's irrelevant to my post so 10 people having an issue with my comment is a small percentage.

        • +1

I think people are negging you more for the fact that your comments sound pretentious rather than for what you said.

Though I do agree with $39 being outrageous for postage- the devil is in the detail. However, people who can pick up instore would be a getting a decent deal.

If I cared about negs id tell them what I think they want to hear rather than my opinion, people on this site sometimes seem to forget its merely an opinion before clicking neg to feel powerful. My first comment was interpreted wrong by a few and I defended myself.

        • its merely an opinion before clicking neg to feel powerful.

hmmmm…. perhaps many felt that about your first post…..

    Lucky, they almost got you!

Don't even think about getting it from Centrecom. Same drive for $1 less ($78) with FREE postage from Flingshot: http://flingshot.com.au/collections/storage/products/hitachi…

    • you should post this now so the deals can be side by side!

    My experience with Centrecom…

Ordered something from their website, paid with PayPal.

A few days later got an email saying they couldn't ship and would refund "as soon as possible".

    No word from them since.

Oh come on, chaps, hotzone didn't actually neg the deal, it was just his way of pointing out that $39 postage is outrageous, and he was subsequently proved entirely right. CyberGenesys posted a good deal for walk-in shoppers and electronictomato found a better deal for everybody else. Can somebody please help me with the Flingshot website? It will not display any products for me, and this problem happens on no other website. Many thanks.

Well to people that just look at the votes, the deal wouldn't seem as good.

it was just his way of pointing out that $39 postage is outrageous, and he was subsequently proved entirely right.

Pretty obvious that it's a crazy price to pay for postage on this item. The op already pointed out the ridiculous postage cost in the description, and hinted it in the title.

      Try a different browser.

@PJC which browser are you using?

Just to be helpful here is a list of our unsupported browsers.

      Mosaic
      Netscape Navigator
      Arachne
      IE for mac

For the record this is a joke, if one of these browsers happens to be your favourite thing in the entire world I apologize in advance ;)

So… Lynx is still cool? :-)

        • Definitely!

  • I use an older version of Firefox, which works fine everywhere else. For flingshot.com.au I reluctantly used Internet Explorer for the first time since 2008. I feel so dirty now! But the website looks fine, thank you.

    • Can you tell us which version? We test on FF, Chrome, Opera, Safari and Shudder IE. So unless your version of FF is like 3 years old, which would be odd then I am not sure exactly what is going on.

  • Probably 4 years old. Firefox 3.6.24. Version 20 should be coming out any day now.

    • Well there is your answer then I guess. Not sure why you would be using a 4 year old browser? Some weird extension that is no longer supported?

  • Worried I might lose my numerous bookmarks, mainly. Including that one for flingshot.com.au that never displayed products until I used … ugh! … Internet Explorer.

    • Haha, fair enough. I also notice that your version of FF does not seem to be parsing the reply script on this page properly ;)

Maybe try something like delicious? You can install the extension drop all your bookmarks into there and then pull them back out when you upgrade.

  • Went this morning. No stock.

    • The deal did get posted 2 days ago…

    • You do know you can check (rough) stock levels online? Everywhere except Sunshine & Clayton are reporting that levels are at a point where you should call first.
