you need one from bashing the head against the wall after each of their crapaton server outages.

    • +1

I'm going to use the bandages and get someone to tie them tight around my hands so I don't order anything else from COTD!

  • If only they can offer free shipping…

    • Saving a person's life vs saving $10 on shipping

      • +6

If their life was really endangered, you couldnt help them with bandages

        • Yes you can.

        • +10

I have watched nearly all of the greys anatomy episodes, part of my life that I will never get back.

I have heard them say such things as:
          "code blue"
          "call the chief"
"get a crash cart, we're loosing em"

          Not once have they mentioned:
"quick, get the first aid kit with band aids"

Thats the sort of thing a mum would say if a kid gets a boo boo

        • +8

actually a firm bandage applied to a limb with a splint following a snake bite may very well save someones life

        • +3

you are basing your argument on grays anatomy episodes????

        • +2

Just because you have zero concept of first aid doesn't mean your shit fiction tv show has relevance to anything.

In the case of venomous bites or heavy bleeding a simple bandage can make a huge difference especially if professional help is not available.

        • +4

          That part was a joke.

Does the bandage look like its long enough to cover a limb?

In all cases, it is advised to wrape the entire limb. The wrap will be lucky to cover an ankle.

I hope to god that you dont expect this kit, with that type of clip, will apply enough pressure to help with a snake bite…

        • +3

i think your argument is valid on this kit (actually looks pretty shit quality and contents) but a decent kit would life-saving in certain situations.

actually a firm bandage applied to a limb with a splint following a snake bite may very well save someones life

but the same could be achieved using a t-shirt

        • so would a shoelace, or a ripped piece of shirt, or manual pressure applied by a spare set of hands, or a belt, or anything… in fact a bandage wouldn't provide enough pressure, potentially. these first aid kits are helpful but they will not save someones life

      • +2

        Hmm. pondering

Should really be about $5…..Nah, no deal. Let them die.

        • +3

even for $5 I wouldnt buy it.
          let COTD die

        • Have to agree.. COTD was great when it was starting and was 1 bargain per day.. Now they just sell overpriced crap the $2 cant sell. I aint brought anything from them for years or visit their site anymore

      • +2

According to L4D, you can let a person be incapacitated three times before you have to use a first aid kit to save them.

        • +1

And if they are dead, shocking them with a defibrillator will bring em' back to life.

        • +2

or just leave them as they'll respawn next round :)

  • Ok, so I'm not a superhero that save lives regularly. If I were to buy some kits for the home / car etc just for peace of mind… just in case, say I drive a nail through my hand, what should I be looking for in a kit? Does this one cover enough of the basics?

    • +4

The first thing you'd need is a claw hammer to pull the nail out.

      • The first thing you'd need is a claw hammer to pull the nail out.

Only if you want them to bleed to death. Leave the nail in there.

just in case, say I drive a nail through my hand, what should I be looking for in a kit?

        A telephone.

Of definite use in this pack - the triangular bandage, emergency blanket, and maybe the cold pack . To buy these retail separately would probably come somewhere near their selling price.
As already mentioned, the bandages all look too short to be of much use; they've conveniently neglected to mention the length .

The eye patch alone is useless with no eyewash.

    • The kit is less important than the training. A decent first aid course will teach you what to do regardless of the items you have. A fancy kit with no training is useless.

    • +3

      Step 1: Stop the bleeding
Step 2: Get yourself to hospital
      Step 3: ???
      Step 4: Profit!

      • thanks for reminding me of the underpants gnomes

    • -1

tweezers or eye patch wont get that out

      • -1

Wow you are just embarrassing yourself now.

  • +1

does this kit have any aspect of quality to it?
to me it just looks like a crappy no-name brand kit which very well could have a bunch of low quality bandaids and bandages in it.
would rather fork out for a decent brand one (st john maybe) and know that the kit contains quality things that are actually needed for most first aid scenarios.

  • +1

I'd be prepared to pay a bit more and get one with morphine injections, Band of Brothers style. Then I would feel like I'm actually helping rather than being a hindrance.

  • +1

had a look on ebay, there is a 70 piece first aid for 7.69 with free shipping.

  • +1

Thanks Invidicus for giving me a laugh today.
    Well done :)

  • +2

First aid kits aren't meant for operating on someone, they are used to tide them over until you can get them to a hospital. They're the FIRST step in AID.
If you think they're useless, just hope you're never put in the situation where you wish you had one handy.

  • I'm genuinely surprised… so far no neg voters.. Last time I posted a COTD deal I was on half a dozen negative votes in this time.

It is cheap it probably is not of the best quality but it will be better than nothing. I just moved out so this willbe a good kit uuntil something better comes along and I have more money. It sucks being a student again

    • for $16 you can probably pick up something better from your local supermarket/chemist…… but i think most people here have already got over believing that Con Of The Day will have any legit bargains
