Deal goes to a blank page.

  • +1

Yeah Nada, Zip, Zilch. Only info is in the little box on the main page, no model etc.
@ http://www.msy.com.au/ - Strike That, Works in IE… Albeit Slowly. For those who truly hate IE…http://i48.tinypic.com/35k1qwo.png

I opened the link in IE and it worked (didn't work in Chrome)

  • +1

Does any1 know if this model has the 1080 hd screen?

    • +1

      http://www.notebookcheck.net/Asus-UX32VD-R3001V.79321.0.html, RES is 1366 x 768, 1080p is 1920 x 1080, or sometimes 1920 x 1200. So in short, no.

        • +1

Its not ~ the 1080p versions is the UX32VD-DH71 or DB71. (which are also i7s and quite a bit more exy.)

          Asus says - 1366x768 OR 1920x1080.

          13.3" 16:9 HD with EWV (1366 x 768) /IPS FHD (1920x1080)

        • but this flyer mentions IPS?
          http://www.msy.com.au/images/ADbanner/eletter/18012013/onlin…

Confused is there an IPS 1366 x 768

        • A MSY rep replied saying that IPS display is a typo.

        • +1

oh ok, it confirms then that this model doesn't have IPS panel, misleading ad from MSY!

        • +1

Definitely misleading — that was probably the key feature that got me interested!

        • I just came back from MSY, The "IPS" in their ad sent by email today was a mistake, this is definately the non-FHD/non-IPS version. They box confirms WV LED. Sure it is false advetising and they havn't put out a correction by email but save yourself the trouble of having to get a refund because I'm sure they will refund since the ACCC have slapped them around a bit, but it is still your time to take it back.

        • Without the IPS, is this still a good deal then?

        • +3

Other similar ultrabook would be the Samsung NP530U3C at around $770 (http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=Samsung+NP5…) but doesn't have the Nvidia graphics.

Another alternative is the Toshiba U940-00S
(http://www.harveynorman.com.au/homepage/toshiba-satellite-u9…) Has better specs and comes to $699 after cashback

        • Nice find.
Tosh seems to be a better buy than this Asus
          2GB graphics vs 1GB
          1600 DDR Ram vs 1366
Win 8 vs Win 7 (some might say Win 7 is better though)
          32GB SSD vs 24GB

        • this is great for a newbie to learn what is out there!

Deal at Ultrabook/Compact section of PDF.

  • No stock in QLD for Pickup, but shipping estimate is $13.59 - And just then Brendale said I could pick up there… weird.

    • I just picked one up from Morningside with no problem

      • Can you confirm if it is (1366 x 768) or (1920x1080)?

  • -5

    It's not an ultrabook

    • Really, explain how? "Ultrabook" is an intel trademark, this particular ultrabook fits their criteria which includes: Weight, thickness, low power CPU, USB 3.0 and Price point - so yeah by their definition its an ultrabook. Maybe you and Intel disagree, but its their word, they bought it.

  • -2

Lol they say it's "Gaming class" because it has a 620m…

  • Excellent deal, I was so close to buying this for $799 last Saturday when they had it on sale.

Just FYI I believe the screen is actually 1366x768 (as per ASUS' website) which is what is holding me back. Anyone with this notebook care to confirm and comment on the quality of the screen?

PS you can upgrade the RAM and HDD to SSD on this to make it quite possibly the best value ultrabook on the market.

    • Yeah you are right about the res being 1366x768 from multiple sources, my bad. Gotta start going to page 5 on my Google Searches!!

    • Can I just order any SSD whenever a new good deal pops up in ozb here? Or do I have to carefully look for the right type/size/socket/etc?

  • So it's using a hybrid HDD and SSD?

Would boot-up times be relatively quick (compared to a conventional HDD)?

    • +1

I haven't used this particular setup, but I have used a Revodrive Hybrid (1TB Drive strapped to an SDD on PCIe Card) and a GIGABYTE Z68XP-UD3-iSSD Which uses the same principle as the ASUS, both had impressive gains over a conventional spinning hdd, but were still at least 30% slower than a straight SSD.

That being said you can upgrade the HDD in the Asus as Pinojay says for a reasonable price these days.

Quick boot up times are part of the Ultrabook Standard set by Intel, Pretty sure Asus have some quoted 8 seconds somewhere for this?

      • Cool, thanks for the input.

I've been give the task of finding an ultrabook for my GF, but I'm quiet out of loop when it comes to laptops/ultrabooks.

Is this Zenbook deal better than the Samsung deals posted on OzB last last year from Flingshot?
        http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/85193?page=1

        • Yes.

        • Asus is better spec'd (albeit slightly) and is $100 Cheaper.

    • Reviews of the current notebook hybrid drives tend to conclude they make very little measurable or noticeable difference.

      • A link on this matter would be greatly appreciated..

        • +1

You have to google out reviews of notebooks with hybrid drives.

          Here's one.

This type of hybrid drive configuration is great when it works … but it isn't working as well as it should here. Our standard storage tests all show the drive in the UX32VD running slower than a HDD would by itself. This is the reason the UX32VD suffers in the PCMark benchmark scores despite the fact it has better hardware than most of the notebooks in the comparisons below. In real-world terms, this means the UX32VD takes longer than expected to start, it's slow to wake from sleep, and some applications take way too much time to launch. We can only hope that ASUS releases another firmware update at some point to improve the SSD cache performance.

  • Do you think the price includes GST?

    • yes

    • I KNOW the price includes GST, if you want just do an online order and add to your cart etc.

    • Thanks, just thinking to get the tourist GST refund when I fly next month.

  • knowing MSY, they're probably out of stock

    • Is it possible to be told "sorry, out of stock" even after you received the confirmation email from the shop?

      • Possible, but highly unlikely.

        • if in VIC, just try some other MSY store for stock

    • Just ordered mine online and picking up from North Melbourne store

  • Im looking for an Ultrabook! This seems like quite a decent deal. I am wondering if its worth buying an Ultrabook over a Laptop, as you have to give up a fair few decent specs. I already have a Music PC, and for gaming Id rather just use an Xbox, so Ultrabooks seem like the right path for general internet/work/study use.

  • Anyone used the keyboard on these? How does it compare to the Samsung Series 5 13.3??

  • Good guys have Aspire S3-391-53314G52add for 777 with 100 rebate! Specs r so close, other than Video but Acer had HD screen? Choices!

    • The Asus is a much nicer design; sleeker and metallic versus less sleek (but still sleek) and plasticky.

Are you sure the Acer has a HD screen? What do you mean by HD? Res isn't listed on the GG's website. Most of the cheaper S3's don't.

      • Yeah, so same resultion. I'd go with the Asus.

        • Yeah, plus the zenbook has GT620M 1Gb for video for only $20 more.

        • Theres this Acer for $899 ($740 after cashback)

          http://www.onlinecomputer.com.au/product_info.php?products_i…

          *Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium 64bit

Thoughts? Skeptical on Acer to be honest. Build quality doesnt look as good but it does have an 256GB SSD and i7 to boot.

        • Those are incredible specs for the price, even if it is an Acer.

I'd post that as a separate deal.

        • Cant post it as a deal, onlinecomputer links are banned for some reason.

  • -1

LOL…Acer i would surely stay away! Just my opinion…notice how most Acer laptops are much cheaper than others? You figure it out.. =)

    • You might want to read the title again…..

i think he replied to 'Aspire S3-391-53314G52' comment mentioned by omygodde & lucasyork

        • Ah, probably right. Just needs to learn how to reply then :)

  • +1

MSY lists this laptop has 13.3" IPS LED screen however looks like this model doesnt have IPS panel.
    Can someone please confirm?

Edit: Few posts above MSY confirmed that is not an IPS panel, misleading advertisement by MSY!

  • Ordered one, how would one go bout upgrading to windows8? I remember reading about a $15 upgrade before Jan 31st 2013?

    • +2

Wow he is on drugs. Good luck trying to make $500. I dont think anyone is stupid enough to buy from him.

      • +2

don't be surprised if a buyer manage to haggle it down to ~$1000. "there's a sucker born every minute."

      • +1

Someone else on drugs will buy it

      • OMG he sold it. Or his drugs wore off!

misleading gumtree advert with that IPS crap XD

Out of stock at NSW stores, placed an online order yesterday no email confirmation yet. They wont pick up their phone either. Ah good old MSY!!! Frustrating.

  • i just bought one late yesterday afternoon @ Ultimo MSY…Dont know if they are out but when i last checked, they had a number of supplies still in stock…Prob try calling again!! Considering its the weekend..

  • I got one from a QLD store today. However I just found that the box seal has been broken. How do I check if I am not missing any content/accessories and if it is an unused laptop?

    • Is there a contents list on the side/back of the box? Or documentation that lists included contents?

      • No, there is none of them.

      • You get the following:
        Laptop
        Carry Sleve
        Power supply
        USB to Ethernet adaptor
        VGA D adaptor
        Pouch for adaptors
        Cleaning cloth
        Various paperwork.

Note: While this is a great machine, there is no somple way to upgrade memory or the disk
and the guy in the shop said openning it would void the warrenty.

Also it is elligable for the $14.95 Windows upgrade offer if you do it by 31/1/2013

        • Thanks heaps! It seems that I am not missing anything. In addition I got an extra cable strap as well.
And yeah, to upgrade it you need to unscrew and open the bottom cover. I just watch a youtube video that shows you how to change the hard drive. Not an easy task at all.

  • Just ordered one.

    Shipping Charge AUD$23.19
    Credit Card Surcharge AUD$14.44
    Total AUD$736.63

    Prices include 10% GST

Pony table so you can purchase the win8 and install when required(when my ultrabook finally arrives)??
Office 13 deal was sweet too:)

  • +1

Got one. Opened it up fairly easily, swapped out the memory and hard drive like a lot of people. Fairly easily done without running into any warranty stickers thankfully, though I did have to take out the ssd circuit board from its case.

Hard drive was 500gb and memory 2gb. 2gb of RAM and the ssd cache are soldered directly on board. Now its running a 120gb sandisk extreme and 10gb of 1600 ddr3 ram. Feels a little more responsive than before, hopefully it reflects positively in battery life.

If you're upgrading it, the drivers are on the asus website, but they're not exactly correct. For instance, there is no atheros ethernet port, and the touchpad is a elantech not a synaptics. If after installing the drivers you have a whole lot of exclamation marks in device manager, you haven't installed the DPTF software, which is for temperature sensing.

The product key is a generic asus OEM SLP beginning with 2QDBX.

    • So you had to unsolder the 2gb ram?

      • No. Half the ram is soldered onboard, the other half is a DDR3 sodimm module while I swapped out.

  • Nice work outlander, seems pretty straightforward

  • Anyone who bought one of these laptops, beware updating the Intel onboard graphic drivers!

    http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/378823-33-asus-zenbook-ux3…

When I attempted updating them, my LCD did not fail. However, the screen did go blank and after leaving it half an hour and coming back to it, nothing had changed. Had to do a hard reboot, and then roll back the drivers as the laptop was behaving strangely probably due to a semi-completed installation. Not sure what to do about it now. :/

  • Was this the one that came with the Nvidia 640 graphics card?

    I'm a bit puzzled cos MSY is now hawking it for $949 - that's a $250 markup.
