  • Can't purchase, what's going on there?

    • +1

      OK now. Thanks.

  • Will this take a 4tb hdd?

  • On the web it mentions have "3 USB 2.0 ports" but the version 2 should have USB3 x 2(back) and USB2 x 1(front). :\

    Edit: Reference: http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/network-storage/1291522/netge…

    • fixed up on the usb ports. 2 x USB 3.0 back, 1 x USB 2.0 Front

      • so quick~ REP! :)

        • thanks, just happened to notice our promotion being posted :). Thanks OP for the post.

  • will this take a single 3tb hdd?

  • MSY have it listed for $139 currently, so that's probably the next cheapest.

  • how does it compare to N40L?

  • I have the Netgear predecessor to this. I'm using it at home with 2 users. We use it only for backup from our notebooks, so it actually doesn't get much use. I also set a timer so it turns off every night for 10hrs. When it does work, I get read/writes about 2mb/s on raid mirror.

It hangs every week. When it hangs, it just doesn't respond. The fix is to pull the plug and plug it back in. It has a power button, but it doesn't work.

It dies every 6 months on average. What that means is that reboot will leave you with a NAS connected to your router but strangely won't respond. To fix this you need to re-flash the firmware. This requires some manual dexterity and about 2min to kick off. Then you leave it for about 1-2hrs. At this point you have to pull the plug and plug it back in, because it won't reboot by itself. Then you set up the user accounts from scratch etc, and get your data back.

So, does anyone want to ask if I recommend Netgear?

    • you must have been mighty unlucky. Also when you say you have the predecessor, was it also the readynas Duo or NV+ range?

i've had my V1 set up for over 6 years now and nothing has failed, never skipped a bit and does not exhibit any of the problems you've been having

it sounds like you have the toaster style netgear NAS

    • I've the Netgear Duo and have had similar experiences. Have only has to do the firmware once though.

      It does crash regularly.

    • I had a ReadyNAS Duo too.

The first one I got was DOA and had to go back. After that, the replacement was rock solid until a disk died.

Ended up upgrading since we were close to capacity anyway, so picked up an NV+. Haven't got the TimeMachine backups sorted yet, but apart from that it has been pretty solid too.

  • I have one of these, but didn't like it much so it doesn't get used anymore. Upgraded to Synology DS 412+ and never looked back — I get way more use out of it, and its much more expensive, but totally worth it for what I do :)

Good price for an extremely basic NAS though!

    • I am looking at NAS, and find it quite good on synology website. What's the difference do you think between the synology and netgear? Just started to look into netgear now, couldn't get much info from their website.

  • why is everyone so excited with this ?
aldi had one in december last year with a built in one tb hd for $99 (originally advt for i think $139)…..

    • Pretty sure the Aldi one only had 1 hard drive bay. I have this one and its great have 2 2TB drives running in Raid. If one fails pull drive out replace with a new drive and it rebuilds itself. Never lose pics or videos again. (:>

    • CORRECTION Just come back from aldi port macquarie
they have in stock a 1 TB NAS $149

  • Out of stock!

    • I'll correct myself, they're now back in stock! I just ordered one!
