I can vouch for the spanner set, if it's the same as was being sold a couple months back (appears to be) They're not too shabby at all, and so cheap.

Picking up a tape measure - my last Aldi $4 one died after yrs of service a couple weeks ago after spending some time outside in the rain. The spring rusted away (oops!) so that's good timing. Hopefully it's as good!.

Probably going to pick up the ladder too if it's not too flimsy. Though there's also an [extension only] model at Masters for $49 at the moment on clearance. I might check them both out.

The Drill is a bit exxy for a generic 10.8v Thumbsdown on that one.

the torque on the drill is quite low too, at 14Nm. A Bosch 10.8V is 30Nm. People might be misled by the 10.8V, thinking they're the same power.

  • I love Aldi products, however my last Aldi drill was hopeless - worth investing in a good one if you do more than general maintenance around the home. The ladder steps are really uncomfortable under foot as they are quite thin.

I bought a scaffold set from Aldi a little while back and it was one of the best purchases I made during my home renovation. Same with the corner sander - beats the cheap ozito one from Bunnings. The tape measure is a quality product as well.

Hope this helps a few peeps out.

  • what's the height of the ladder? surely that is an important spec

  • What's the height of the ladder? surely that is an important spec ??????

    • Yes of course it's an important detail and conveniently left out of the description by Aldi - both in their brochure and on their web site. You would would expect as there were no height details given, that it would conform to the usual Australian standard of 1.8m high as a step ladder and around 3 to 3.2 meters when fully extended but NO! I counted the rungs(6)and presumed that they would be 300mm apart- the standard. But Aldi's ladder has rungs too close together at 270mm - you lose 30mm between each rung and the rungs are a crappy 25 x 25mm square section. Not good to stand on for any length of time.

The fine print on the packaging says that as a step ladder it is 1.64m high, but the usable height is only 1.4m. With the poorly designed brackets, the extension ladder is 2.58m (8'6") - if you thought you could use this to get up and clean your gutters - forget it!

I believe Aldi deliberately left out the dimensions and no wonder - this is a cheap and nasty light weight little piece of crap. I got up early on Saturday to buy one of these thinking $70 was a good price for a standard height step ladder that could also be used as an extension ladder. Trying to set it up at home I pinched my arm in the fiddly extension brackets and struggled to set up the stupid thing. Not worth $70. Its going back ASAP.
