I was looking around for a new phone plan, and found this deal in the Money magazine, 20% off unlimited plans for new customers, doesn't say an end date in the ad, it saves you $7.98, which is alright if you cant wait for a better deal and need to buy it now.

IMO Kogan is the better deal if you want unlimited.

    $24.90/month for unlimited + 6GB.

Best thing is you're on the Telstra network too which is >>>> Optus.

    Otherwise if you're a light/medium user.

The $7, $11 or $17 month from Vaya is pretty decent. Uses the same Optus network as Amaysim.

    • 1) Kogan uses PART of the Telstra network (about 1/3rd). ie probably worse than Vodafone outside of the major cities.

      2) Vaya is fantastic value, given then also have a month free offer (and if you refer a friend you get a month free too).

It's a lot more than 1/3. IIRC it is the whole network minus 4G, but you are limited to 7.2Mbit/s, i.e. no 3.5G, HSDPA+. The coverage should be almost identical to Next G.

Where I live, there is no reception with Vodafone, but Kogan I can get full bars. I definitely would recommend Kogan, they also have a trial option to test it out.

National coverage percentages are overemphasised anyway - what's often more important is whether the locations you most regularly use the phone aren't in a particular network's blackspots.

For example, I helped switch a relative from Vodafone to Amaysim a couple of months ago. Their signal strength at home, which is an outer-metro area with full, non-marginal coverage according to Telstra/Optus/Vodafone coverage maps, unexpectedly dropped from a consistent 5 bars to a flaky 2-3 bars, and they told me of their frustration when for occasional periods there'd be no signal at all.

In general though, I think Amaysim has been excellent for no-nonsense simplicity and value for money, though Kogan now appears to have them beat.

      • Can you post the link for refer a friend and get 1 month free on vaya's website

thanks for the heads up on kogan, the 24.90/month plan is if you buy a years access at $299 if anyone cares, i just purchased the free sim from them, i'll check out their service, and if its any good, will ditch amaysim and go with Kogan!

  • Can't see that. Says $29 but how is customer service????

    • Check out their facebook page.

I saw this guy order a SIM card and Kogan ended up sending him an SD card, and when he complained on FB, they asked him to take a picture of it for them LOL!

      • My son ordered a microsim from Kogan, got a nano sim and they also required it to be sent back before they will ship out a replacement.

don't like amaysim, vaya or liveconnected is much better!

    • Not liveconnected any more. New plans are amongst the worst now in the industry!

        Vaya FTW…

    • @ no_mercy

I dont like coke, You now ask why? And I ask why you dont like Amaysim?

A little info helps us more than just saying you "don't like".

  • Not again. If I were the CEO of amaysim I'll also offer deals to existing customers.

  • -1 Live connected
    +1 vaya's lower caps
+2 Kogan mobile (telstra 3G coverage)

+0 mehh on the amayasim offer now

PS vaya are offering the first month free ($20 for the SIM and postage, so not all that 'free'

and kogan will cost $5 but you get 100min 100sms & 100mb to try out for 7 days for free

  • agree, kogan has lit a fire up under these. Hence, adjusting new competitive rate for amaysim_flat might need to become #19.90 - or even @this value, some (myself) might still stick with the smart data solution of woolies 17.40/5gb +which includes hours of standard/international calls; but as we gradually transition to IP based comm's in a 4G environoment, apps would take care of the comms.
