Vaya 1st Month FREE - Flexi from $7/Mth, Unlimited $39/Mth. $20 Starter Pack. No Contract

790

First month of service FREE from Vaya on any Flexi or Unlimited plan. Website states Online Only
The $20 Starter Pack is waived if you sign up for 24 months - I would not recommend this.

Similar to the previous promo deal posted here http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/81590
I'm personally on the $17 plan and have enjoyed their service thus far. I signed up during the previous promo and a credit is applied to your account to the same value as your selected plan.

Previously an LC customer, I prefer Vaya mainly due to the phone support (even though it's offshore). Also I believe LC recently jacked up their prices. A good pro/con list is provided by Spizz: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/81590#comment-1053458

Vaya's website isn't the greatest but still gives you everything you need. In terms of app support the full version of myUsage supports Vaya. I currently use it and it works well. Alternatively you can use http://mobile.vaya.net.au/ which is more intuitive and cleaner than the desktop version!

Edit: Thanks to Holysmoke for providing this independent FAQ link https://vayafaq.jottit.com/
Last I checked there was no Plan change fee, but best to call and verify.

Thanks, I think i'll finally pull the pin.
Hate that LC put up there prices. Plans looked great

Do you think we can used this with the cashback offer here?
    http://www.starthere.com.au/Vaya

    • Thanks for reminding. I was to get Vaya 11 dollars plan.

    • Only for the Unlimited plan

      • Only for unlimited plan? but it doesnt state in the website.
did anyone receive cashback from starthere with FLEXI plan purchase?

      • It is not a member anymore with starthere. So no cashback.

  • +3

Do they have 4G yet? They have been saying that for months.

    • Doesnt look like 4G is active yet.

  • Service is decent. First month is pro-rata so watch out you don't go over your daily allowance.

    • Very true. Wife went over by 76c. We got a bill and wondered why, called them up and they waived it as a gesture of good will LOL

      • On my first bill, my credit card was declined (not sure why) and I received a credit card dishonour fee as part of their policy. Sent an email and the fee was waived as a gesture of good will. Given their low rates, I was very surprised they did this.

  • I think this will be enough to get me to leave LC as well. Have had no problems, but don't want to start either.

When people have left LC, have you actually tried to do it properly with the notifying them and porting in the last 7 days. I'm thinking it might be easier to just eat the months fee. Which this deal will make up for.

    • I would try to comply with LC's terms first and give them 30 days notice if possible.
My 30 day notice was actually waived as an error that was made on their part and I raised a ticket to notify them of this.
Whilst I appreciated this from LC, it took 2 weeks for this to be resolved… something that could have been sorted out over a 5 minute conversation on the phone. Hence my move to Vaya.

      • How do you do the change over to the new carrier exactly on the same day as you disconnect from the previous network with the 30 day notice.
I have had a bad experience similar to this. I was using TPG for 5 years and then decided to move to AceCommunication after seeing a post in this forum. I called TPG and checked if I am on a contract. They said I have finished the contract long back and there is no fee for leaving. I further checked if they can provide the same service that I am looking for (unlimited calls to all Australian Lan lines and Mobiles) which they said no.
Then I asked Ace to connect my service with them when ever an ADSL connection become available. After a month a connection became available and mine was connected. Then TPG said I don't have an official 30 day notice and charged me for extra month for internet which was $40. The lady at TPG was not even listening and said that I have no official notice. What she meant was I have to first inform TPG to disconnect my internet rather than asking Ace to connect my phone line with them as we do with Electricity or Gas. Phone can not be a smooth change over. Which means people will hardly be able to change the phone or internet as they will have to first disconnect existing one and then wait for a long time until a connection becomes available with some other provider.

        • not really. The one month notice means you have to know by which date you will be connected and approx. 1 month earlier let tpg know you are going to change the provider( in next 30 days). Most of the consumers are unaware of these terms.

  • can they supply nano-sim?

  • +5

Mate, I wouldn't post your telephone number like that.

    • must be asking us to use the Kogan unlimited plan to keep on calling / sending SMS to him…

    • I was very hesitant to post my number, but I do trust the OzBargain community. Aside from this I will be overseas for a couple of months so I wasn't fussed if I received any spam or the like.

  • I switched to Vaya a couple of weeks ago. Seems alright so far. Used to be able to get a detailed itemization of my current usage, however that has disappeared. Instead all I get is a lumped current usage amount. Anybody with the same issue?

    • +1

yes, I'm having issue checking the usage! Maybe they're having problem with their website!

      • I can see detailed itemization of my current usage upon login. It is 48 hours delayed for call charges.

    • please tell us more about these issues you speak of.
by tell us, I mean evidence, not speculation.

    • +8

I think you accidentally a couple of words.

      • If you clicked the link to Vaya page in this post, You will find missing word in there too. :)

Just below the label "First month free access".. "Sign up today to any <-> our flexi plans..".

I've been with Vaya for almost a month now, and I've had no problems yet.

  • +3

Awesome first post mate. Well, up until the "1st post so please be nice" part but you can't win em' all. ;)

    • Thanks mate! I tried my best :)

  • +2

The $11 Flexi plan looks attractive :)

    • It certainly does! I couldn't live without unlimited SMS hence why I went with the $17 Flexi plan

  • +2

I've been with Vaya for 6 months now, excellent service & value ! :)

  • My contract with vodafone runs out in the next few days. I was thinking of porting my number to Kogan but I really don't need unlimited. 11$ plan is all I need.
    When does this offer expire?

    • +1

My advice is get the Vaya sim now. Your billing does not start til you activate the sim or in this case port the sim.

      • +1

Really? But they ask for your old number. Are you sure it won't port or charge you until you activate?

        • +4

Yes I am sure. You have to communicate with them again to port. They cannot port your number yet to their sim because you have not received the sim yet.

        • Thanks :D

        • I'm fairly sure it asks you if you want to port you number when you go to activate it. Nevertheless, i've spoken to ben on whirlpool and hes advised me that you can still port your number after activating the SIM. albeit this may take a day or two.

        • pao2x is right!
You must have an "activated" sim before 31 January 2013. Just because you signed up doesn't mean you're eligible automatically. You're service with Vaya must be active by the end of the month.

Bear in mind you still have 20 days or so to make your mind :)

    • Got this when I clicked on one of the plans …

      "First Month Free Access
*SIM Pack fee of $20 is still applicable. Available for applications received from the 9th January 2013 to the 31st January 2013 and activated before the 31st January 2013 "First Month Free Access" means you will have a credit on your account equal to the value of the full monthly access fee of the plan that you choose.
All 19 calls, International calls and all roaming usage will be charged on top of your monthly spend. "

  • +1

What do you get for referring anyway?
    Also, Vaya is amazing!!

  • Does anyone know what is the best pre paid offer atm? We keep getting hammered occasionally by going over our cap.

    • Mate I'd suggest on getting on of these plans.. if not with vaya at least with one of the other cheaper resellers like LC or TPG.

Great thing is that you're not locked in a contract! So you can leave anytime. Be sure to read up on T&C's so you don't get hammered be fees!

  • is anyone know is there disconnection fee of $30 applicable to unlimited plan?

    • +2

Yes, if you cancel your account.
If you port your number out, then there's no fee.

  • +2

Another happy customer here. Signed up with them back in Nov. Took 2 days to port from virgin.

I made a mistake by making a direct international call (was supposed to use rebtel local number) but I got a message warning me that I was calling overseas. I would end up paying a fortune without that message.

    Decent service so far.

  • +1

I have been with Vaya for a month, so far so good.

  • +1

Been with Vaya for ~3 months.

So far so good. The service is identical to Optus (Vaya is an Optus re-seller), which isn't great in my area, but for $11p/m who can complain.

    Highly recommend!

  • +1

Damn I just had my wife sign up with Vaya yesterday at 10pm and now they are doing this offer.

    • Sucks to hear that mate. I think it's worth a shot sending an email to Vaya. They have surprised me in terms of 'gestures of good will'. You could state that you attempted to sign up for this offer but for whatever reason it didn't register correctly.

  • +2

    Good find!
Was planning to join this month anyway :D

When they say one month, do they mean 30 days or till the end of the month? =/

    edit:Ah, nevermind. I found it.
""First Month Free Access" means you will have a credit on your account equal to the value of the full monthly access fee of the plan that you choose."

  • +3

I've been with vaya three months, and am very happy so far. A few hiccups and delays with the port, and they initially failed to apply the free month (on the last special), but they fixed the problems quickly with a minimum of fuss.

A few big pluses - their CEO Ben is a regular on the vaya thread over at whirlpool, and fixes problems quickly if the call centre staff are struggling. Also, you can set your account to stop as soon as you exceed your limit (but only if you choose.) Regardless, you automatically receive SMS alerts when you're within 15% of reaching your cap.

Overall, clearly a company in its early days, but they work hard, are cheap, and deliver the service advertised!

  • signed up half a month too early :(

oh well it's been fairly good so far with Vaya. The one thing I miss is vodafone's sim toolkit which has a free balance request option (so I get a text with what I have left rather than having to check online)

  • +1

I just started using amaysim ($39 unlimited plan) after getting out of a contract.

How is vaya or LC better than amaysim/woolies mobile etc who offer the same kind of service on the optus network?

What about lyca mobile that works on telstra? They have a $24 unlimited plan off contract…and telstra's network is much better than optus. I frequently go on countryside trips for work and half the time optus has no service. :(

    Thanks.

The good thing I like about amaysim is that they have dirt cheap rates for international calls (like 6c per min) compared to $1.20 vaya or $1.50 LC. Bad thing is that international sms are 25c while lc and vaya have it inclusive.

    • +1

If you are looking at making international calls with your mobile I'd recommend TPG then, cos their cap is includes International calls and text or Lyca as their international call rates are very cheap!
For domestic usage (within australia), Vaya has proven to best option for me so far. Service has been exceptional too.

      • Or get a pennytel account? :D
they have an app you can use (iOS)

  • +2

"I signed up during the previous promo and a credit is applied to your account to the same value as your selected plan."

1/ I signed up during the last deal as well and did not get the full credit. Its 1st month free, so make sure you sign up (or activate) as early on in the month as possible. that way you will maximise the first month free. Vayas billing cycle is 1st to 31st (calendar month) and not date of sign up. This means if you sign up on the 29th you will only get 1-2 days free (i.e. your first month). So i do not believe what the OP stated is correct.

2/ Ive had terrible experience with them with my roaming. Paid $200 bond but when I got back they are refusing to refund it (even though its advertised everywhere, including facebook and advised by the rep) that it is refundable. Instead they've credited my account.. it will take > 1 year to use up all that credit!

Overall, ive had a terrible experience with vaya. I should've stayed with LC - but now that LC have jacked up their rates i cant go back. LC global roaming is much better too (a servicedesk takes incoming calls and sms's you… brilliant!)

    • +1

Re 1/ It clearly states "First Month Free Access" means you will have a credit on your account equal to the value of the full monthly access fee of the plan that you choose. So you will get the full amount back as long as you activate before 31 Jan 2013.

      • same issue happened with me; i did get the whole $11 credited to my account but then i got charged charged $11 for the month as well even though i only activated my service on 25/10 and got prorata usage accordingly. So i only gotabout 1 week free. But other than that i am very happy with the service

        • they take a full month in advance (this means when you leave they don't have to charge you after you've left and the onus of getting any leftover money is on you)

This is pretty standard for all postpaid plans

    • In regards to your point No.2 you are incorrect. Your $200 (less overseas roaming charges) will be returned once they receive the last invoice from Optus in regards to your international roaming-

      http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2013758&p…

  • What network does Vaya use?

    • +1

      Optus

  • Sorry to hear about your bad experience. For (1) I had the same question, but when I called Vaya, they assured it's for a full month and not just for remaining portion of the first month that your service is activated. I verified this through my invoices and it was correct!

For (2), this is very unfortunate. Try speaking with Ben on whirlpool to get a refund. LC don't offer international roaming anymore, as they've stated that they received a lot of complaints from TIO.

    Best of luck!

  • LC is working for me fine.

The only issue I have with LC is their crappy overpriced Roaming service.

You have to pay $10 to 'activate' roaming each time. And when you 'roam', you can only send and receive text. You can't receive or make calls OR use data. When you receive calls, an LC operator will take a message and text you the number of the person trying to call. GAH!

    • +2

      They have many more…

Let them suffer/learn from their mistakes when their competition takes the lead.

    Handy FAQ via Whirlpool: https://vayafaq.jottit.com/

    • Thanks mate! Added to the post

    • Invaluable info there for any one that signs up. I ported 2 lines to Vaya from Woolworths on Tuesday - wish I had seen this link before. Would have saved me a lot of time anguishing over partial-port delay.

  • +1

I've been with Vaya since Oct last year. So far So good!

  • 7-15hr voice does not look bad for a 12 per cent saving against my (pre-charged, discounted) Woolworths M, only major dampener is that a data rollover has not been implemented to ameliorate the situation with regard to 1.5 gbytes.

$132 per, <18 GB, per annum, isn't really all that big for us moderate [3]G/Date users Ben, but of course Optus Wholesale may not necessarily be the most easily convinced.

I've 25 gbytes sitting on the shelf already, woolworths; would use them 1st, so no hurry.

  • I'm on LC at the moment considering going over.
Considering LC require 30 days notice to cancel, if I was to give them notice of cancellation now, does that mean I would be charged for the whole of February or only up until Feb 10th?
And.. if we can only port out in the last week of that 30 days, doesn't that mean we technically can't activate this until we are within that final week, because wouldn't the Vaya SIM require the LC number to be ported over to be activated?

Obviously this concern is only relevant for people (like me) who intend to port their number over. Can anyone shed some light?

edit: Another random question - OP, curious… why do you advise against signing a 24 month contract to avoid the $20 starter fee? Simply because "it's just $20"?

      1. Freedom - Being 'locked in' a contract for 2 years is a long time. New deals may become available which are more suitable or your needs change. E.g. You decide to move overseas next year for work, but you are still in this contract so you have to pay a cancellation fee.

      2. It's only $20

You raise a good point with the LC 30 day cancellation term. I looked up LC's cancellation process
I doubt they would be flexible enough to let you port earlier than the last week. With Vaya you may have a chance still getting the first month free and activating after Jan 31 (e.g. Feb 10), but you would need to call/email them.

      • Ok I found the answer to my own question. I would be charged up until the 10th Feb (at the time of the previous post, i.e. 30 days after cancellation requested) on a pro-rata basis. Found it on LC cancellation support page.

So, seems like I won't be able to take advantage of this deal unless LC are willing to allow early porting or Vaya allow me to qualify for the first month free despite late activation. Time to email away!

        Thanks!

        • No worries, good luck mate! Let us know how you go, because I believe there are few others on the same boat as you.

        • I emailed shortly after my previous comment. Still waiting a reply! Will update.

  • -3

    Caveat Emptor.
I was with Live Connected and have since changed to Vaya (to get family on a cheaper deal). Live Connected are MUCH better in every way (eg. you can actually check your status on IOS, a web site that works, forums to discuss things, etc).

Vaya are the WORST telco I have ever dealt with.

I won't neg the deal because it's cheap - but something has gone wrong on a weekly basis - i've never seen anything like it. This isn't just bad luck, it's a company that doesn't know what the hell it's doing.

    BEWARE!

    • So what exactly is wrong with Vaya?

    • This is a surprise.

They were hopeless at activating (kept calling the referral number rather than the number to be ported).

They called me 5 times to activate and each time I told them they had the wrong number as well as provided them with the correct number. Was worried they were going to port my number by mistake!

HOWEVER once that was sorted, it's been cheap without ongoing issues. I'm a very light phone user and haven't been with them long, so perhaps I haven't noticed things going wrong.

    • +2

Personally, I would rather pay less a month in return for no forum to 'discuss things'.

Plus I have never had a problem with Vaya.

  • Ugh, I want to sign up with Vaya but I need to give LC 30 days notice to cancel my service - if I port out after 21 days to avoid the next month service charge, it'll be 1 February and I won't be able to activate Vaya by 31 January to take advantage of the free first month.

Not sure why this restriction has been put in place? Seriously, extend it by a couple of weeks and you'll have all us LC people moving over. As it stands, I'm going to stick with LC for now.

  • i am jumping from Woolies vouchers to Vaya $17 for one of the kids - been considering for a while as the vouchers are just PITA inconveniences. The free month thing made me go for it thanks OP. Have 3 other fam members on the LC original rates. I would have chopped across to LC if they didn't lift rates for new connections.

    • ported from Woolies no issues at all and quickly

  • +1

I was dismayed with LC's changes and ported to Vaya and have nothing but praise for the $11-17 caps for value but if you need coverage, data and cheap unlimited then just save your breath and go Kogan prepaid on the Telstra network. unlimited and 6gb a month for $25-30 per month depending on recharge period.

    • Thx but vaya suits don,t need coverage mainly briz and 2GB plenty for usage pattern

  • +1

How do I apply the limit on data so that it stops when it goes over ? I can't find it anywhere on the site.

    • Excellent question !

    • It's automatically applied.

    • Anyone to share a copy of their facilities accompanying screen piccy.

  • +1

I've also recently released an app to monitor Vaya usage, its very basic but it has everything in a single graphical widget which I prefer to myUsage:
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.blogspot.v…

  • Test evening speeds for postdated plan result if anyone can offer pls.

    • In Perth I get 3386 kbps/1170 kbps with a ping of 110 at 8:30pm on a Thursday.

  • what's the difference between month to month and 24 months?

    • 24 months — you're locked in a 24-month contract and pay $0 for your SIM card.

month-to-month — you can leave/port out whenever you like, but you need to pay $20 for your SIM card.

  • Hmm..
    Section H) DATA:

    1. If you go over your data entitlement, only data is blocked. Voice / SMS will still work.
    11. Excess Data Rate is 25c per MB on 3G Flexi Plans.
    12. Excess Data Rate is 24c per MB on 3G Unlimited/Grand Plans.

Clauses "12."; "11." appear in conflict with "1. The account would become oercharged, without 1. Can someone pls elaborate what is the precise operation between 12.; 11.; & 1. Thx.

    Q; Part 2
When it comes time to present customers with unappealing options (c.f. Live Connected: "Spring plans") I take it policy would be to "grandfathering" as usual.

  • With the first month free, can you choose the unlimited plan first to max out the promotion then go down to $11 plan?

    • I don't see why not… there are no fees for down grading, but this may only apply for Flexi plans. Best to call them up to see if you can downgrade from unlimited > flexi plans.

      • There's a $11 downgrade fee that they don't tell you about over the phone. :/ Awful. It says $10 on the FAQ. They must have added it recently because under archive.org, mid-December there was still no fee.

And you can't downgrade from unlimited to flexi.

  • I have two phones on Vaya and it is working really well and cost-effectively. I've read about a few issues, especially in relation to the pro-rata billing and usage in the first partial month of activation but these seem to get sorted out. There is a huge discussion thread about Vaya and a useful FAQ on the Whirlpool Forums.

  • Any idea when this deal expires? I'd like to give LC notice, and not miss out on this deal.
