Western Digital My Passport 1TB Portable HDD for $95.60us (Approx $90.60aud) Free Shipping

40

I really needed a portable HDD and missed the 2tb deal posted earlier so was really peeved and went looking for best I could find in 1TB version.

So this was the cheapest I could find on the net when taking into account shipping costs. Free shipping only applies to economic soft packaging option and can take up to 21 days. The economic "box" option costs $1 (what I used), also 21 days. Courier options much quicker but cost around $27 from memory making them around same price as some Aussie options.

Link is for the 'black' version, but they also have 3 other colours at same price (if that's important to you).

Note: First time I've used play-asia so can't vouch for them yet.

For those who can do local pickup, OfficeWorks have Seagate 1TB USB3.0 drives for $89. Out of stock online but I picked up one the other day in Chirnside (Vic).

This post doesn't seem like that much of a deal…

Local stock, $83 Pickup (+$11 express shipping for metro, for VIC at least). Available in different colours too.

  • Utterly pointless ordering a delicate item like a Hard Drive from half way around the world, then waiting 3 or 4 weeks for it.

You can get them cheaper frrm almost any Australian computer store.

    • If you can find this particular product (brand, size etc) cheaper at an Australian computer store, please let us all know where. I did all the price comparison sites and NONE in Australia were even close. Think $109 was the closest…thats almost $20 more.

And for the record, I got an email 3 hours after i placed the order that it was already dispatched…the 21 days is just a maximum indicator for the cheap option, doesn't mean it will take 21 days. And who cares if it does anyway if you dont need it urgently.

      • Why did you want this particular product (brand, size etc)? It's not like 2.5" mechanical drives dominate the performance market, they will all copy at pretty much the same speed. As for reliability I have 3x1.5TB Western Digitals sitting on my desk awaiting RMA…

llama said 'them' meaning the collective of hard drives, not this drive in particular, it was just a sweeping statement to indicate that HDDs can be bought at the same (if not cheaper and with greater safety) locally vs. globally.
